This is the closest I can get to NOLA. From the friendly service that welcomes you. This is the place. Great value and the portions are spot on. I drive 40 min to get what i think is best soul food here in LA. Worth the drive. It dose take a while to get your food. I would call it in. With good reason the food is fresh and hot. Everything is homemade and I will be back. Thank you for bring a little taste of NOLA to SoCal.

Met a friend here. Got there about 12:45 pm on a Tuesday and we were the only customers. A little worried but we were welcomed warmly. Not everything on the menu was available yet — beef ribs only on weekends we were told. Had the fried chicken, black eyed peas and rice and cornbread. Black cherry kool aid to wash it down. All delicious. Then hot peach cobbler fresh from the oven. I tasted some and took an order home. My friend just had the chicken — no carbs. We agree unanimously that the food was great. And the people there were warm and friendly. Not many customers while we were there — they deserve more. If they weren’t so far away I would go often.

This place was excellent. The service was great and they are very friendly. My husband is beyond picky with soul food and he loved it. They show you your order before they pack it and you leave. We got the fried shrimp and catfish w/fries which are about the best fries I have ever had and the fried chicken plate with red beans and rice and rice and gravy. I would definitely recommend them. Do not get discouraged if it takes awhile to get your food… it means it’s cooked fresh folks. Thanks all! See you soon!

The food was GREAT! I have been searching for good soul food all over LA and finally found it. I got the baked chicken, yams, mac and cheese, and cabbage. It was cooked to perfection. My dad got the smothered pork chops and black eyed peas, it was delicious. They gave a huge portion of food too. I didn’t even put a dent in it. I was stuffed and still had a bunch of food left over.

I am at a loss as to how this business has such high reviews. The service was almost non existent and it took over 30 minutes to receive our food which we were not informed was not ready. During that time not one person said anything to us or offered an explanation on why it was taking so long. Also they did not have mac and cheese or any desserts except for store bought sweet potatoe pie. A soul food restaurant without mac and cheese really what the heck! Maybe it was an off day The two stars is for the food. It was decent but not worth a return visit or a 30 minute wait.

Some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. And the collar greens was some of the best collard greens I’ve had as well. And no meat base in the greens. Next time you’re in Paramount and want some soul food, I recommend this place

If you are looking for authentic Soul Food in Long Beach, Paramount area Parrins Soul Food is the spot. I ordered the Fried Chicken Dinner and with the first bite you can taste the moisture and flavor of the Bird. My wife ordered the Shrimp Étouffée which taste out of this world. Parrins is not skimpy on the portions of your meal. I had generous portions of my Fried Chicken Dinner. The staff is so friendly and will recommend all the delicious food on the menu. I will be a regular customer for now on.

This place was absolutely amazing! The food was prepared fresh to order and the service was just like home. This will definitely be my go to for ALL soul food. It’s a must that you try this place! I enjoyed a dinner plate of ox tails and rice along with Mac n cheese, yams and greens. The mac n cheese was perfection. Cheesy and the elbow noodles were just the right texture. The yams were buttery and sweet. Just how I like them. Greens were full of flavor and were nothing outside of delicious. The serving sizes were generous. So generous that I had enough food left over for dinner! I promise you you will not be disappointed!

What a gem! They really give a new meaning to «soul food» with their incredibly warm hospitality and amazingly good food!!! Had a craving for fried chicken on a Sunday night and unknowingly arrived 5 minutes before closing… I thought I was out of luck but boy was I wrong! They fried up some amazing fried chicken, turkey chops, greens, Mac n cheese and banana pudding! Some of best chicken I’ve had, super moist and incredibly crispy! I think banana pudding might be my new favorite dessert. Great restaurant, amazing people, and incredible food. Highly recommend!

If you haven’t stopped here you should!!! We held our Union meeting there and the service was top notch. Southern hospitality. Miss Rebecca and her son came out to greet us and tell us about the food. I had the smothered pork chops. Mac and cheese and mashed potatos. The mac and cheese is dynomite. Pork chops were great and the gravy is fantastic!!! Defiantly stop here … you won’t be dissapointed. I know this will be a frequent stop for us members of UE local 1077

OHMYMYMY !!! Finally I found a local soul food spot in the 562 area. Here is my rundown: Catfish — Two long thick pieces seasoned in some fire batter to perfection! Fries — I don’t think I ever had batter(thick) french fries that was surprisingly delicious. Mac & Cheese — not greasy at all perfect as well. Cornbread — Soft and delicious homemade taste. *This is the is the spot highly recommend can’t wait to taste their gumbo!

It was around 6:45pm on a Wednesday when we arrived at this soul food joint. Not busy at all, in fact only two other people were inside waiting for their food. They had already ran out of a lot of food and since they close at 8:00pm, it meant they were not going to start baking/cooking anymore for the night. The young man that took our order was really nice and apologetic about the menu items they did not have any more of for that evening. The workers all seemed really cool and laid back. The mac n cheese, French fries, fried chicken, and red beans were all great! They did still fry fresh meat. The wings were crispy and delicious! Oh, and don’t forget to try their Kool Aid! It was like a mixture of black cherry and lemonade, so good! I was not a fan of the corn bread, it was dry and lacked flavor. I’ll definitely be back at a more decent hour to try other dishes while they are fresh and still available.

It’s a gloomy rainy afternoon in Southern California today and I was in the mood for comfort food. I luv comfort food it’s good for the soul. I decided to try out this place after a co-worker mentioned it to me. Smothered Turkey Chops is what I ordered which came with greens and mac & cheese. The dinner was great although the mac & cheese could of been better. Turkey Chops and greens were right on. Good spot!

I never would have found this little restaurant if not for favorable reviews and helpful pics which made it all look and sound delicious. The moment I stepped inside, the chef in the kitchen and someone sitting in the dining area greeted me along with the nice aromas wafting from the kitchen. Excitement set in as I looked over the menu and the woman at the front helped me decide on the smothered turkey chops with sides of black-eyed peas and red beans and rice. The turkey chops were large, tender and meaty pieces smothered with gravy, the red beans and rice lacked flavor, but the black-eyed peas were very tasty. The yummy corn bread was nicely baked with a golden crust. All in all a nice fulfilling meal that I’ll need to order again soon. I actually ordered the gravy on the side, but they forgot, so next time I’ll have to remind them as I’m not a big fan of gravy-over-everything. A final wish that they add more vegetable /salad options to round out the meal and to add more color.

This is a solid spot. It may become the go-to spot. I don’t remember what I was Unilocaling one day, when this restaurant ad came up. I thought, «Soul food in Paramount?» My hunger and proximity led me to try it the other day. Glad I did! Good job for pointing me here Unilocalers. You can see it from the street. There’s an ample parking lot. It’s between a hair place and… There are only 5 or 62-person tables inside the restaurant, but I watched a handful of people pick up their call ins and go. After one of the three co-owners explained their limited Monday menu to me, I ordered pork chops greens and mac n cheese. The seasoning on the food was delicious. The greens were too vinegary. The corn muffin was good.(I think I’m accustomed to M&M’s delicious corn muffins coming to the table as an appetizer while you wait, so I was frustrated with the change, and not having anything to nibble on while I waited for my food to be cooked. But it is a different restaurant…) Point being, good food at a decent price. I’ll be back!

Food for the SOUL. A newly opened Soul Food Place, Parrains has it going on! The interior is nice, but small. 3 or 4 small tables in front and another 3 on the side(all the tables are for 2 people only) The kitchen dominates the space and with good reason. The food coming out of there is DELICIOUS! Here’s the rundown“ Fried Chicken — One of the best if not THEBEST Fried Chicken I’ve had. And if you read my reviews, you know I eat a lot of fried chicken lol. The seasoning is spot on and it’s fried to perfection. Yum Yum Yum! Turkey Chop — what is a turkey chop? I still don’t know but it’s also good. The turkey is sliced like a pork chop. It even has the skin on the top and those skins are so good. The turkey is tasty and the flavor is the same as the fried chicken. Yum Yum Yum. The sides they have are also wonderful. Mac N Cheese — THEBEST Mac N Cheese, This is the way i like my Mac. You get a lot of it too. If you come here, get THIS! Black Eyed Peas — it comes with rice. I’m not a beans person, but this works for me. Collard Greens — Another winner, very tasty, very flavorful. You can’t go wrong here. Red Beans and Rice — Another bean side dish, but this is going to be my 2nd favorite here. The flavor just stands out! The Corn Bread is so good! DELICIOUS! Grape Kool-Aid and Cherry Kool Aid — YES, Kool Aid. I prefer the Cherry. lol Service, we’re talking about Kevin. I don’t usually use this work but, Kevin is the MAN! Super friendly and helpful. He does everything here. You get first class service here! Tip: They have lunch specials(fried chicken and baked chicken) for $ 5.95, you get a choice of red beans & rice, black eye peas or gravy with it and a beverage(kool aid anyone). But if you talk to Kevin, he can hook you up with the other items on his menu. We got the turkey chops as a lunch item(1 turkey chop instead of 2 for the regular meal) He can do it with pork chop as well(that’s my next dish to try here). A great bargain. They’re just starting up, so be patient with them. Trust me, you will be rewarded with some of the better southern food around.
