we got here after lunch so we were able to get parking right in front. it’s a super tiny place with 3 tables so i can see how it can get packed really quick. we ended up getting takeout. we got a steak burrito, chorizo burrito, steak tapatio and flan. as everyone else said the burritos are plenty. i had the steak burrito which i ended up saving the other half for dinner. my husband had the chorizo which he loved as well. he ended up finishing the whole thing. the steak tapatio smelled delicious on the car ride home. the meat looked tender and i was surprised that there was cheese inside(we tend to order a random dish to try out). unfortunately the meat was tough which was a let down, but the flavor was good, kind of spicy for my taste, but still good none the less. special win was the flan. my cousin makes the best leche flan and this one is a huge contender. it’s sooo smooth. i would go back just for that. but i’ll go back anyway to try out the tacos. a good find in a cute town. will definitely come back.

Went here on Saturday with my girlfriend to order some lunch. This establishment is right off a main road, so you have to park in a lot further down the street, but it is not a bad walk at all. Inside is a little tight so I would recommend eating here only if you’re with a small group(1 – 2 people). On this day, we ordered 4 tacos(2 chicken &2 steak) & chicken quesadillas. We were told that our order was going to take about 15 minutes, so we quickly ran out to do some errands & by the time we got back, it was ready for us. The food was amazing, easily the best Mexican food that I have had. Both the chicken & steak in the tacos were very fresh & the corn tortillas that they were in were crunchy as well. The quesadillas had just the right amount of cheese in them & also had plenty of chicken too. This order also came with hot & mild salsa & sour cream, adding even more flavor to it. In all, I was very pleased with my order from this establishment. It’s safe to say that whenever I’m in the mood for some Mexican food, I’ll be ordering from here.

If I had not been stopped at the tracks waiting for the train to pass, I would have missed this little joint. The food is freshly made and delicious. We ordered pork and steak tacos(topped with their green sauce) which were delicious. The beef enchilada with rice and beans was very good. They have generous portion sizes and reasonable prices. Although the wait time is longer than expected, the quality of food definitely compensated for that.

This is the type of place you call in your food, and about 20 minutes later pick it up. However, when I placed my order I was told it would be a 25 minute wait time, which is when I arrived to the restaurant. Once there, I had to wait another 45 minutes for my order, which was only 2 items. During this time the staff completely ignored customers waiting for food, staying in the back and emerging every 10 or so minutes confused about what orders were waiting to be picked up. Now — on to the food. It was one star, at best. The nachos are not true nachos — they have some cheese, beans, tomato and other items on the top layer of chips, but nothing beneath that, so under the top layer the chips are completely bare. The burrito I had COULD have been good, but they did not follow my instructions, which is unacceptable after an hour wait. Don’t waste your time going to this place. There’s much better places in the area that offer the same food, tasting better with a normal wait.

I have come here before. It’s not fancy or anything, but the food is really good. It is pretty authentic. I always get sopes de chorizo. My personal favorite. If you’re in the mood of mexican and in the area it would be a good choice. Mostly a takeout place but they have tables too.

Pretty good. I had the chicken tacos which was a boring choice but they were ok. Also tried sopes for the first time. That was really good. It’s a great lunch spot. Didn’t knock my socks off but if I’m hungry and in the area I will stop again!

Family spot to eat in or take out. Constantly fresh and never fails with homemade chips and guacamole. One of the best«hole in the wall» Mexican food spots in north jersey. Def won’t fail.

Based off of the Cod Burrito I had, I have to give it a good review. The best fish burrito I have had in a long time. The Cod was cooked and fried perfectly, flaky goodness. The burrito was stuffed, perfect ratio of cod: rice:guac:beans. They also grill the burrito before serving it which is a nice touch. They normally close at 8 we got there after, but since there was a family finishing up dinner, they still made us food. I would come back just for this anytime.

El Azteca has quality food and is a good place to go in a pinch. It is better than most other take out places in the area. The food can be a bit bland but is generally pretty good.

Wait at least 30mins for street tacos. Insane! They did not apply the first come first serve rules!

Best guacamole around, food is always prepared fresh and the homemade chips are amazing. I pick up chicken quesadillas and guacamole at least once a week and still can’t get enough.

Came for lunch on a Saturday because Cinco de Mayo was super packed. Surprisingly, there’s parking in the back. It’s got a few tables, and a small counter, but it’s mostly a take out joint. The people who run El Azteca speak English well, so they won’t mess up your order. They have the standard Mexican foods, like tacos, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, etc., in legit form. I ordered a pastor taco and a cod burrito, after clarifying that the fish would be fried. They gave us some complimentary chips and salsa while we waited for our food. The tacos are cheaper than Cinco de Mayo’s, but they are also smaller. They also don’t have cabeza(head) or lengua(tongue) tacos. My pastor taco was kinda bland, and my brother said his were also kinda bland. Their red and green salsas were also not super awesome But they do have the best cod(fish) burrito I’ve had on the east coast. The fish was fresh, cooked perfectly, and well proportioned with the rest of the ingredients. The only thing missing was the creamy, smokey, somewhat spicy, baja fish taco sauce. Unfortunately, they don’t deliver to my house, so I’ll only be coming back when I want a Cod Burrito.

Always perfect that’s all I need to say but Unilocal is left me demanding for more of a review. Unilocal’s reviews are nice but you should try these places for yourself Aztec is excellent. Restaurants try to make your experience great but trashing someone’s business without any information is so unrealistic. Another internet hassle.

El Azteca is well worth the trip if you live in North Jersey or Rockland County. I went to El Azteca based on a recommendation from my uncle. I had just moved back to the area and was looking for a taqueria where I could get simple, good mexican food. It has since become part of my weekly rotation of restaurants. With a family feel, and staple mexican food, I really feel like im getting a home cooked meal. Outside of the burritos and tacos, I recommend the empanadas!

El Azteca was such a clutch find. I had been working in the area for 5 years or so before I found this gem. I sustained myself mostly off pizza on sandwiches for half a decade. But my heart yearned for some tasty Mexican. I would resort to driving to the the Taco Bell nearby, if I had only known this place was right around the bend. A co worker finally introduced me to El Azteca and my work life has felt just a little more complete ever since. They have an assortment of tacos at a fair price and the taste and feel of the place is authentic. Pro tip: This place is tiny and doesn’t try to maximize the space they have, so if you plan on eating in, get there early 11:45 or so. Takes them awhile to cook up the food anyway. So you are best served getting in before noon.

When I think of good Mexican food in NJ, my mind immediately jumps to any one of a number of Hudson County spots(no, please not Taqueria… ugh). Union City, Jersey City, and Bayonne all have an abundance of good, cheap, authentic Mexican restaurants. It’s for this reason that I was shocked to find such a gem of a Mexican Restaurant in little old Park Ridge, way up in Bergen County. The restaurant is as bare bones as it gets; a couple of tables, a fridge with drinks(including Mexican Coca Cola, aka the one that comes in the glass bottles), and a counter. Don’t expect a server, a waiter, or a bus boy — all that will be handled by whoever is at the counter. What you should expect, however, are the most delicious pork tacos you will find on this side of the country. Just thinking about the taste is making me stomach perform some extremely questionable noises out of joy. Definitely ask for shredded cheese and sour cream on the tacos for an even better treat. An order of 4 tacos will run you about $ 9. If you frequent Blue Moon and you find yourself dissatisfied with the food there, you owe it to yourself to come here once for lunch. If you’re pressed for time, just call ahead and take your order to go(otherwise it can be a little bit of a wait). 5⁄5 — definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant in this part of the state.

Hmmm. I am in Paramus, NJ which is sort of like a barren Death Valley for good Mexican food. I would only give El Azteca a 2 if they were in California, but here in New Jersey it is a welcome relief from the endless Applebee, Chipotle, etc mega chains on Rt 17. This is a cute, small mom and pop restaurant with a few tables and take out. They have clearly tweaked the menu for a North East palette. Nothing too spicy in this menu. They are known for their burritos, which are great value. The staff is very friendly and the food was good, but a little bland for my tastes. but nothing that a little Tabasco sauce can’t partially fix. Worth a visit
