Tried Brix again in early July and sadly their food was gross. I’m not surprised that they closed.

I’m gonna miss this place… the staff and managers were amazing. the food was good, however the menu was much better when they first opened. Fridays and Saturdays were insane, the place was packed and if it was your scene, it was definitely the place to be. R.I.P. Brix 42… We will miss you…

We came here for a my wife’s birthday party a few weeks ago. I have been here in old town pasadena how many times and I’ve never seen this place before. I guess it’s because it’s near the corner of Delacey and before Colorado Blvd between the alley areas there. But anyway, I would give it 3 stars because the dinner there was pretty good. I ordered the chicken marsala(I think that’s the real name) and chicken strips are yummy with dips of ranch. MMmmm. I love the portions of it, not too little, not too much. The beer samples I got was okay, but it would been much better if there were iced cold first. I just didn’t like the dancing after wards. Like other small clubs, it’s not much space to walk around and I’m not into crowds. I like it where it’s a big spacious dance floor. Well, I can’t complain because it’s mostly for eatery. Ambiance: The dining area is okay and restrooms are clean too. Location: sucks on the weekends because the parking structure across the street can get full and you have to look for parking around the area… Food: The food I ate is good, I have no complaints. Wait time: As long you have reservations for it, it’s pretty fast. Service: It’s okay. Price: pretty affordable.

I like the set up of the restaurant, I saw that they had a big room for large parties and the bar looks good, clean bathrooms mean clean kitchen right? We went here randomly on a night in Pasadena. We came for dinner but I guess it turns into a club on weekend nights? Sweet potato fries were good and the mini pot roast. I could have done without the chicken alfredo and the steak skewers though, they were kind of tough. Cajun fries were more salty than cajun-y. Meh, I’d pass on coming back here. Drinks were strong but I didn’t come here to drink.

Long story short: a decent looking place with mediocre food and decent service. Long story long: Came here to have dinner with Kevin C and Debbie Y and one of my friends on… was it a Thursday? Needless to say, this place was dead with the exception of maybe 4 other people the entire time we were there. This location has been a couple of other restaurants over the years, with a lot of them failing after a just a few months. I think this is just a bad location, being right off of Colorado Blvd but out of noticeable view unless you’re walking up or down De Lacey. The décor isn’t bad though. Dark wood, sleek, fairly efficient layout. Our booth(as are all of the booths in that side of the restaurant) was slightly elevated to our server was actually more eye level so she wasn’t straining to look down at us nor were we straining to look up at her. I’m just saying. Our server was pretty nice. We didn’t have any problems per se. For a drink, I actually ordered the beer sampler, which was a tasting of 5 beers for $ 6. Or was it 6 beers for $ 5? I forget. All I remember is I liked all but one or two of them. We ordered a few appetizers, including the chicken strips, sweet potato fries, and seared ahi tuna. The chicken strips were nothing to write home about, I liked the sweet potato fries, but then again I somewhat unbiased towards sweet potato fries. The seared ahi was probably one of the better things we had at the table. For my entrée, I ordered the bruschetta chicken sandwich with a side order of garlic fries. I forgot what everybody else ordered. Our food came out in a decent time and presentation wise, looked pretty good. My chicken sandwich came on a soft ciabatta roll and was topped with fresh chopped tomatoes and onions. Overall, it was alright. Not outstanding but not horrible either. This theme seemed to be pretty consistent throughout the night. The garlic fries had quite a bit of garlic, which I liked. Everybody else seemed to feel the same way about their food. It was just ok and wasn’t great nor horrible either. No wonder this place was absolutely dead. Would I come back? Probably not.

Color me happy! Brix 42’s happy hour is amazing. Just when I thought all happy hours were the same, I found this place. First of all, yay for all day happy hour on Wednesdays! Every other day is 5 – 7, even weekends. They have their own house beers which are really yummy, and the happy hour food menu is extensive. Even the regular appetizers are priced well. I chose the baked goat cheese for a little lovin’ from the oven. Amazing! The only reason that I’m reserving 5 stars is because I’ve only been to Brix for happy hour. Once I go at another time, I’ll update my review.

Came here Saturday night around 11 pm. The line was really long, took nearly 25 minutes to get in. Space is small but just right, not too large. Crowd was mixed as well. I would have given this spot a 3.5 if it weren’t for the DJ. Sorry but I’m not into the whole Techno/House feel. You know people will start dancing once they hear songs they’re familiar with. This was a lost opportunity unfortunately…

I’m giving this place four stars based on their drinks more than their food. We went on a Sunday evening and although it was dead, we were told that it is really busy Thursday through Saturday at night. We asked the bartender if he could make us a drink: something not too sweet but strong. He went right to it and made us some yummy martinis that were pretty strong. We ordered a steak and pot roast and it really did not wow us but because the bartender was pretty cool and made awesome drinks, I would definitely go back again. I would probably have dinner somewhere else and then come for drinks or just show up for appetizers and drinks. The inside décor is also really cool. There is a lounge area with couches where the dance floor is held and the lights are dim. There is a parking structure right across the street so you don’t have to hassle with parking.

Mediocre everything, beer, burgers, appetizers I guess the best thing of the night was atmosphere, service and of course the very best company!!! Started with some beer, not bad but not the best I’ve had, followed by the sampler beer of 6 small glasses, which I liked the dark one the best and the IPA and didn’t not care for the pilsner. Chicken strips were ok, sweet potato fries ok and finally my burger… ok. Well I liked the ingredients bacon, avocado, cheese and I think the burger and beer were the best of the evening as far as the actually consumption but with sandwiches, appetizers, pasta dishes, and fish, I guess that’s not saying a lot. I can’t say I disliked this place I just didn’t love it either. It was very safe, moderately pricey and just average over all. Service was friendly and attentive which was nice. I think having Deb, Austin and Courtney there made the night a good one, the Brix 42 was just not so exciting except for them.

Checked this place out with Austin S., Debbie Y., and Kevin C., and missed happy hour at 7pm by 10 minutes or so. Pretty spacious, dimly lit, brew-pub atmosphere. There were only a handful of others at the bar and another booth then, so it was quiet. We ordered appetizers(seared albacore tuna, chicken strips, sweet potato fries), a couple of beer samplers, iced teas, and took our time ordering our large plates. I had the grilled white fish(escolar) on sauteed spinach with white wine cream sauce, served with smashed garlic potatoes. Debbie Y.‘s chicken marsala was tastier. I liked the garlic fries that came with Austin S.‘s bruschetta chicken sandwich. The service was polite and attentive. I like the fact that the server left us alone until we were ready to order more food, and offered to split our check after she had brought the bill. I have the luxury of working at an office within walking distance, but it’s convenient that there’s a parking lot right across the street. I probably won’t be back anytime soon, but I’m glad I went with great company.

Stopped by this place for Happy Hour on St. Patty’s Day last week and had a pretty good time. I was thinking about hitting my favorite beer bar around the corner but knew that St. Patrick’s day is also a moron magnet for what are usually respectable Ale Houses. Anyway, we were happy to find out that we were there on a Wednesday because it meant all day happy hour. The beers they brew there were 3 bucks and the well drinks are 4. Score. The Atmosphere: This is a nice place. Feels very modern and upscale. Thye had a couple of TV’s going in the bar area and a projector which silently played old 80’s MTV. The Beers: They are a brewpub which always excites me but they were out of a bunch of beers when we were there so I didn’t get to try them all. I had there Dunkel and an Amber and the brew was a wee bit boring. They weren’t bad, but boring. As a beer aficionado, this place isn’t making my regular beer establishment list. Food: We ordered Wings and Garlic Fries off the Happy Hour as well as Mussels off the regular App menu. The fries and Mussels were just OK, but my girlfriend really liked the wings claiming they were moist and delicious. Good enough for happy hour. Service: Our server was great. Not overbearing, but attentive. I was glad to give him a little bit larger tip because of it. Overall: We would go back for a happy hour with friends because it was nice, quiet and reasonable priced but not because the food and beer were great.

I haven’t been to old town in such a long time so I was definitely shocked to see Brix 42 here in place of the former Union Cattle bar/restaurant. Some friends and I came here for a b-day celebration. Getting in was easy, the bouncers were cool, but once inside I quickly took notice of how the place lacked tables, seating, and most importantly the mechanical bull! Anyway, the music was tolerable. But as people started to arrive, the music was blasting 10 times louder(not good as towards the end of the night my ears were ringing worse than after a concert!). The dj played some some good tracks(although many tracks were repeated throughout the night). Bartenders were pretty cool too. Overall, I had a good time here because of the people I was with not the place itself. I wouldn’t come back on a regular basis.

Not reviewing on the food/restaurant. PROS: The ambiance was nice and comforting. The drinks were good and cheap enough(as compared to Hollywood). The bouncer was nice to remember my friend and I when we went out for air. No long lines for restrooms. CONS: We got to the place between 9:30 and 10. Pretty early right? Well not early enough. Had to wait like 15 – 20 minutes. Bouncer said they were near capacity. My friend and I peered inside like creeps and saw how empty it was. When we got in, we strolled over to the other side of the bar where the dance floor is. The whole restaurant was pretty empty. 25% full? Nowhere near capacity. It took some of our other friends maybe 30 – 45 mins to get in. Another set of friends were only a group behind them and waited for an hour only to decide not to wait anymore and hit up another party spot. It wasn’t even that packed inside. Anyway, moving on. The music was LOUD. I must sound old but really… it was the kind of screechy loud that leaves ringing in your ears for days! I go clubbing pretty often of the late and I don’t normally have this problem. DJ did play some top 40s but I didn’t remember the music to be fantastic. And he rejected a song request… grrr. My friend and I were lucky that the bouncer remembered us to let us back into the restaurant. One of my friend’s coworker approached us to say bye because the bouncer wouldn’t let her back in. All in all, as a night spot, this place is not that great. As a restaurant, I have yet to try.

My friend had a birthday party here. They were just finishing dinner, and I came for the drinks & dancing that was to follow. They were sitting at these tables that were elevated like a foot or so off the floor. Totally expected someone to eat it after a few drinks, but it never happened. Nothing wow-tacular about the place itself — it’s kind of like a slightly nicer BJ’s meets Gordon Biersch that they turn into a loungey/club at night. Bartenders are cool and attentive. I think drinks were like $ 6. My friend had bottle service, not sure how much it was. As previous reviews mention, the DJ plays 90’s hits. We danced up a storm and periodically exclaimed«aahhhh shiiitt» when any of our favorite songs from that decade played. Remember Shaggy — It Wasn’t Me, Beenie Man & Mya — Girls Dem Suga(LOVE this song), and even that Short Dick Man song? That’s what’s up.

PRO: Chill place to unwind and have a hefty $ 3 brew or three during a pretty economical happy hour. PRO: Tasty ‘homegrown’ Brix 42 beers(my fave was a robust IPA) and not horrible food choices(i had their supposed signature dish the ‘Pot Roast’ which the staff kept raving about– BUT it was just ‘aight, nothin special, espesh the veggies ‘fresh’ outta the can – OOPS, that’s a CON) CON: Aforementioned unfresh veggies outta the can in the signature Pot Roast appy. PRO: Two large TVs above each side of the bar and huge projector screen above the Front Door to watch a game or two if you’re so inclined. OR, because volume is turned all the way down, you can opt to ignore the TVs and focus on the dimly lit ambience and have good convo if you choose. CON: No volume on the TV if in fact you’re here to see and EXPERIENCE the game. CON: Why is the huge projector TV above the front door? That’s kinda awkward for viewing angles and it’s altogether weird to be fixated on the front door the whole time. CON: Why SPLIT the bar such that it’s totally symmetrical but you can’t see anything or anyone on the other side? I mean, why have a bar in the round if each side is segregated? fuggin’ bizarro, yo. PRO: They have beginner and advanced salsa classes at 8pm on Wed., and then salsa dancing after, often with a live band. Congueros! Que bueno! PRO: DJs Thurs thru Sat. Eh, but who knows if the music is ‘good’ or not? PRO: Quite friendly co-bar patrons who actually aren’t immature/self-absorbed douchebags. CON: 3 assholic TOTAL douchebags who came in late, sat down, and then proclaimed, ‘hey you guys are gonna need to move down three slots because there’s three gamers here now.‘ a. Unfunny saracastic patronizing delivery b. Yea, and these 3 name dropping, hitting on the bartendress, self proclaimed ‘producer’ types were, predictably, the oldest folks at the bar. Still, if you can navigate the douchebag obstacle course, which I guess is a potential pitfall of most joints these days, then at least you can escape for a few moments, or hours, of chillaxin’ lowkey bliss at tha Brix! P. S. Not a meat market at all if you’re single and looking for such type of thang. Being a few paces off of Colorado helps save this place from SRO sardine status, which may also help preserve your vocal cords and risk of spitting while you scream. That’s the scene on a Wed nite, at least… P. S.S. Props to the Bartender for charging me the HH price on that last brew, even tho i ordered it LOOOONG after the HH had expired… DONE.

This place is not bad. We came here on a Sunday evening to catch the NFL game that was playing. We sat at the bar area. The service was ok. We ordered a couple of appetizers and some drinks while we watched the game. The food was ok. They were out of a couple of the house brews that they have there. That was disappointing especially since they are a brewery as well. Go figure huh? One of the good things about this place was that they have happy hour from 4−7pm everyday. The prices were pretty good on their happy hour menu.

Yknow, I actually like this place. The atmosphere is friendly, it’s dark, chic, kind of an upscale-BJs vibe goin’ on. Our waiter was very friendly, and prompt with re-filling our drinks, which is always a plus. We ordered the tuna appetizer(rare cooked tuna on top of tomatoes, red onion, and cilantro in a light vinaigrette.) We devoured it. I personally have never been a fan of rare, seared tuna(i like my tuna from a can, heh) but this was delicious! Very moist, fresh tasting, and not heavy fishy aftertaste. Very lovely. The food was a bit disappointing though. The pot roast was so salty, it made my tongue feel raw after awhile. It smelled heavenly, but unfortunately, I couldn’t finish it, because of the completely over salted seasoning. The meat itself was moist though, and the potatoes were good. It’s hard to mess up mashed potatoes. Although they call them«garlic mashed potatoes» I didn’t taste any garlic at all. The boyfriend ordered the Brix Burger(i think that was what it was calling anyway)… medium rare, bleu cheese, caramelized onions… it was awesome! Juicy, flavorful. But again, salty, due to the heavy amount of bleu cheese they piled on. We didn’t get to try any of their beers, but we will be going back, this time with more friends. And I hope that next time, what ever i end up ordering doesn’t turn out to be a plate of salt :(

Yummy garlic fries, delicious pot roast bites, amazing fresh salad and very affordable prices! I LOVE their pot roast… try those on happy hour time(4pm to 7pm everyday) and pay only 7 bucks for a large portion! Everything on the menu is 7 bucks during those hours. All home brew beers are sold for ONLY3BUCKS. And ladiiiesssss ~ all home wines are sold for 4 bucks a glass. My friend also recommends the«sampler» — a sample size of all their home brewed beers. That is a perfect choice for girls(or boys) who have different taste regarding beers… i like the lighter ones, she likes the darker ones = order a sampler and everyone will be happy. And the best: they’re open until 11pm ~ can u ask for more?

A solid 3 stars. I have been here for a few happy hours and for their free entrée giveaway during their grand opening in May, and I must say, the food just just pretty average. Here is a run down of the Happy Hour eats that I have had before– * Meatballs– delicious and meaty drenched in marinara sauce * Sliders– probably the best thing I have had here. Soft buns, tasty beef topped with cheese, sauce and onions. Highly recommended. * Pot Roast Bites– another delicious appetizer. The mashed potatoes are a bit too runny and creamy for me, however it goes well with the pot roast. Very tender and juicy… a bit too salty however for my tastes. * Italian Sausage with Mashed Potatoes– I would skip this unless you’re really in the mood for sausage. I was quite underwhelmed with the sausages. Nothing very special to this dish. *Turkey Chili– actually quite impressive. Meaty and full of flavor and it packs a kick at the end to make it tasty. Tastes great with the fries. *Garlic Fries– were a disappointment for me. Not enough garlic. I enjoy my garlic fries with raw garlic on top, not just garlic powder. A bit too soggy for my taste as well, but a very generous portion offered. *Peanut Cole Slaw– surprisingly quite refreshing and delicious. Heavy on the mint, however it tastes very similar to a Thai style salad that is light and refreshing. *Hummus– again, generous portion however lacking in taste. A tip would be to add some garlic or perhaps ask for some lemons to squeeze in to make it a bit more flavorful. I am not a beer expert, however the Blond and the IPA I felt were both too watered down to be worthy. BJ’s and/or Yard House has them beat here. The best option would still have to be their Hef, which was passable as good. Hopefully they will have a rotating menu, and if they are taking suggestions, I would recommend serving mac n cheese, or better yet BONEMARROW to be a true«gastropub»

I have been here twice. The first time was St Patrick’s Day late evening and it was really busy and the house beers were only $ 2. Granted the beer was served in plastic cups but who cares when they’re only $ 2! My girlfriend and I sampled the salami/cheese/bread plate that was on special and it was alright. It’s not exactly normal bar food there. And that’s a good thing. I liked the place enough to come back tonight and it was again busy but I managed to find a seat at the bar for Happy Hour specials. I had the house red again. this time it was $ 3 and served in a tall curvy pint glass. I’m sure those glasses have a specific name but I can’t recall it. This time I tried the garlic fries for $ 4. The portion was massive. Actually too large for a single person. They were a little greasy for my taste and had actual shavings of garlic on top instead of a coating of seasoning like I like. The portion of ketchup, while probably normal for a normal person, was too small for me. I couldn’t finish the fries b/c I ran out of ketchup. So in summary — good place whether with a friend or alone. Eventually I’ll try everything they have on Happy Hour, including the calamari.
