I’ve taken my glasses needs to Coffey Optical for many years now because they were the only local shop to do repairs — quickly, well, and at a fair price. In the intervening years, I’ve been back for new glasses many times, and each time it’s been a treat to talk with Rick Coffey and get his help. Rick specializes in service the old fashioned way, and while you may have to wait a minute or two while he helps someone ahead of you, he’s worth the wait. He’s also very, very patient, which makes him great with older clients.

I went here to get some safety glasses, and my university was paying so I don’t really know about prices, just service. First time I went in to drop off my order, I had to wait a few minutes because he was helping someone else(it seems like there may only be one person to do service, at least when I’ve been there). When he got to me, he was very nice and helpful, helped me pick out what I wanted, and measured me for the glasses. In a few weeks, I got a call saying my glasses were ready. I went back in more than a week after that because I was busy and as soon as I said my name, he remembered that I had a pair of safety glasses to pick up. He grabbed them, and fitted them to me, needing to bend them a few times to make them fit properly. He then showed me the paperwork with them, the case, and how to put on the side shields. He even had me do it to make sure I could put them on and take them off. As I was then packing up to go, he said I should just come back in if I needed to get them refit any time. Overall, great, great service, very nice and helpful. If I weren’t leaving town soon, I would definitely go back for any glasses I need new, fixed, or just refit.

Although I haven’t been there for years, I have to say that the 3 pairs of lenses they did for me were some of the best I’ve ever had. I tend to be sensitive to the axis being off by too many degrees, but these guys got it perfect. Also, they were able to work with more than one pair of vintage frames. One pair was lucite and the nose pads were crumbling from age. They somehow sanded them off and formed new ones that looked flawless and original.
