Burgers and pies are amazing here. It has a friendly American Diner feel with great service. I had the veggie patty which was full of flavor… better than in-n-out. This cozy place is cash only and charges 35 cents for tomatoes.

4 stars for the burgers — messy because they don’t skimp on 1000 island dressing or toppings. The pickles they use are especially delicious and I love the crispiness of their grilled buns. 4 stars for the old school pies — the coconut meringue is amazing even if you don’t love coconut! We also loved the classic boysenberry and the Dutch apple pie was on point! DONOTTRYTHECUSTARDPIEUNLESSYOUAREOVER60YEARSOLDAND A FANOFBLAND, UNSWEETENEDPIESTHATTASTELIKEANOMELETTE. Ultimately I have to rate Pie N’ Burger 3 stars because the prices are unbelievably high for burgers in a cramped & dated atmosphere with OK diner service. We got 2 cheeseburgers(comes with fries), 2 drinks, and two slices of pie for — $ 46(that includes a 15% tip — I usually tip more but I couldn’t bring myself to do it once I saw the bill)! I tip my hat to the owners for getting people to pay these prices for burgers though :).

This is an institution to be respected. Old school menu, burgers and gold olé quality service. Cheeseburgers are to die for and you will feel nostalgic checking out their old cash register while chomping down their crisp fries. #1 in my book.

This place is still really good. Tried the breakfast and had a slice of butterscotch meringue pie. The cheeseburger with thousands island spread is still just as delicious as ever. Yum

This place got rave reviews so we tried it. I liked it OK, my husband didn’t at all — and we basically got the same thing. I think his expectations were higher than mine which is stupid because when you walk in — you shouldn’t expect a fine dining experience… it’s a burger joint. My cheese burger was delicious and they did it just as I asked. The side salad that we each chose as our option was huge and very fresh. The pie was fabulous. The crust was delicate and flakey — 10 times better than the pie at Republic of Pie. Who ever is baking them here knows how to handle(or not over-handle) the pie crust dough. I would go back — it’s a bit pricey for what you get, and the atmosphere is a bit down market, but the quality of the food is great!

Finally made it here to sample both of the namesake creations. The burger was very flavorful and juicy. I opted for the cheese and tomato, though they did cost extra. The meal came with fries that were both crispy and tasty! To drown my thirst I ordered the root beer, which is made old school with carbonated water and syrup… sweet tasty goodness! To round out the meal I had a piece of the boysenberry pie ala mode… sweet fruit and flaky crust, was very good. I had 2 others with me that had a burger and finished with peach and banana pies, which I finished for them, and both were tasty! Ambiance is soda fountain lunch counter, and prices are above expectation. For three of us the bill was $ 65 before tip. While food was good, the prices will drive me back to in n out, as comparable freshness and flavor for less than half the price. This joint does not make the list.

Came to this place on Saturday. After sitting at the counter for a good 10 minutes, the waitress finally asked if she could help me. I would have rather not been helped at all than have been helped by that rude waitress. She never made eye contact and never once smiled. She seemed miserable at her job. I ordered the chili cheese dog, and it cost $ 10. For a $ 10 dollar hot dog you would expect more, but it was a total letdown. The hot dog was the same kind the Rose Bowl serves, and it was horrible. The chili tasted like cafeteria food, and the cheese was just a slice of American cheese slapped on the bun. This place is cash only, so if you only brought your credit card, you’re out of luck unless you want to pay the $ 2.50 fee to use the ATM. I would not come back here again. Spare yourself the money and get a burger at Lucky Boy.

3.5 stars this is a good basic, traditional burger. Nothing fancy here. Burgers come with sauce, pickles and lettuce. You can add cheese, tomatoes and onions. I had the turkey burger and it wasn’t too greasy. Side salad dressing choices are thousand island, ranch and blue cheese. Fries are a bit bland and tough. I was looking forward to the strawberry cake, but we came an hour before closing and they were out :(so I got the chocolate cake. It had real chocolate chip morsels and the flavor was rich. But it was a bit dry. Cash or check only!

My wife and I popped in here for lunch after the Rose Parade Float viewing in Pasadena today. Local lunch counter with some national recognition doing it the old-school way – we wanted to like it, we really did. We were sat after a little bit of a wait, as one would expect at a popular lunch spot, at the back end of the bar. I had the cheeseburger, basically the same flavor profile as In-N-Out but with a better, meatier patty. It met my expectations of a diner burger. My wife had the turkey burger, we had a bowl of chili and fries as sides. The chili was all right, and the fries were the pre-cut frozen variety that you’d find at a place like Denny’s. They were dry like they’d sat for more than a few minutes before being served. The biggest issue I had was that the place is dirty. From our seats at the counter, we saw in plain view dirty wet towels kicked under tables behind the counter beneath the cash register and leaky reach-ins, broken dishes on the floor, servers ladling chili out of gallon sour cream tubs, a 4 quart Cambro full of lemon slices not on ice, and a mountain of butter on a dinner plate that was carved with flecks of burnt toast. We saw a server was dipping scoops of ice cream so large that ice cream got all over her hands and onto the pie slices she was plating – after then, we were glad we decided not to try a malt. I didn’t ask my wife about the women’s restroom, but I’ve been to gas stations with cleaner bathrooms than this place. I understand the charm and appeal of a place like this, but until they clean up their act, I don’t think I’ll be back.

Happy New Year to my most misguided boyfriend. More on that in a moment. We happened on attending our second college football game in less than a week. Lucky for him, I do love me some sports. Men in tight pants, sweating and grunting can get me feeling rather randy. Right after the game my boyfriend leans over and whispers in my ear, «Baby, I want pie». Oh??? As we are leaving the parking lot stuck in post Rose Bowl game traffic, I took the opportunity to apply a fresh layer of makeup and made sure my hair was perfect. But where were going to so her could get some«pie»? No ladies and ‘gents, it was not my pie this boy was longing for but for Pie ‘n Burger(sad face). When the boy gets a hankering for a specific food item there is no stopping him. And even though it was a holiday, I am convinced if they were closed he would have found a way inside and grilled up his own burger(and probably would have brought his own cow). At 3⁄2 half star rating, one would not expect to be blown away by Pie ‘n Burger. But I can tell you that they do in reality make one Hell of a fucking phenomenal old school diner style burger. 100 percent ground beef grilled to order(medium rare please) placed on a toasted bun topped with fresh lettuce, ripe tomato(onions if you wish) and smeared with a house made thousand island dressing. It’s really perfection and apparently some prefer to it my «pie». It’s worth a pop in and if there is a wait, WAIT! It will not disappoint.

If you like kitschy and vintage restaurants, this will tickle your pickle. It’s a really small place, with not so great parking choices, and it’s cash or check only. We went in and waited to be sat and nobody said anything, so we just found a place to sit and then realized it’s self seating. Our waitress was nice, but all over the place at times. I ordered the cheeseburger combo with fries and my boyfriend ordered the same but with hash Browns and a side bowl of chili with cheese and onions. The chili was eh, not too bad not that great. The burgers were very tasty, and a good size. We also got some pie afterwards and those were very good as well. Like the place is good but I don’t know that I could say it’s amazing and I’ll make my my burger place to go. Definitely try it if you’re in the area and in the mood for a good burger.

I was so excited about my first time here! My friends rave about this cute little mom n pops kind of joint. The menu is on the wall and everything looks very old school. I just had them for me: HAMBURGER — $ 7.75 It’s $ 0.50 with cheese. The burger is cooked to how you like, between toasty buns, with all or none of the works(lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles), and their amazing dressing. My burger was cooked medium-rare, with all the works, and my onions grilled. Let me tell you this burger was AMAZING. I usually only eat half a burger but I killed this beast! The iceberg lettuce was clearly fresh which gave my burger this wonderful crunch. The pickles had this spice to it which have the burger this subtle kick… but I was fine with or without. The dressing is just magical because it’s sweet, it balances the savory taste overall. As for the beef patty… it was juicy and amazing. What’s also magical is how the buns stayed slightly crunchy after every single bite! Through all the beef juice and dressing and the tomato gush… there was still that little crunch from the toasty buns! My mind is blown! This burger is amazing. FRENCHFRIES — $ 4.25 Unfortunately I didn’t like the fries. The thick cut fried potatoes tasted hard, and I was warned about this. I’m not saying it was terrible. I’m just saying I’m super snobby and picky when it comes to French fries(says the girl who absolutely loves McDonald’s French fries) :P BOYSENBERRYPIE — 5.25 I had to get boysenberry because it was my favorite jam growing up… and it’s on season! Although their microwave was broken and I had my pie cold, it was still super tasty! Tanya took such great care of us. She even gave the table a sampler of other pies! How nice! This makes me want to I back to have their other pies! But we all know I will definitely come back for that magical burger.

#3 out of the top 5 best burgers in the US by Food Network. If you’re searching for a typical, tasty diner burger, this is it. I’m going to have to agree with what people have said if they rated it average. Friend and I each got a burger with grilled onions, and added cheese and tomato. The burger was good. really enjoyed the patty. But for the price you pay, it’s more of one and done, as I wouldn’t make the effort to come back for the burger(especially because we kept driving around looking for parking during a weekday lunch hour but luckily the space right in front of the restaurant became free). We also shared a side of ordinary fries, in which we only ate 1⁄3 of the order. And then we decided to try the apple pie, which may have been the highlight of the entire meal. Highly recommend. Overall, I would rate the whole experience a 7⁄10

EATTHIS: boysenberry pie I can name 10 burgers off the top of my head that are better than Pie ‘n Burger but at least they’re better than In n Out. I was hesitant to try this place after reading so many recent reviews comparing it to fast food, BUT I was intrigued that Los Angeles Times listed them as one of the best burgers in Los Angeles. It’s a solid burger. What stood out to me was the crunchy lettuce, crisp almost toast-like bun, and slightly charred patty. That texture was the best part, and the only reason I can imagine why it would be included on lists for best burgers. Worth a try but I probably won’t be returning with the 10.95 price and extra charges if you want tomatoes! HOWEVER the boysenberry pie was delicious! I got it with a huge slab of vanilla ice cream on top. The boysenberries have a crunchy texture(EVERYTHINGISCRUNCHYHERE) and the crust was wonderfully flakey. I’m not the biggest pie person and it’s one of my last options for dessert. But when you go to a restaurant named«Pie ‘n Burger», you can’t not order one of the two things they’re known for. They should rename to «Pie» and stick with what they know best.

A cute American diner originated in 1963. You walk in and its about 30 seats right by the countertop. Very old-fashioned. Hamburger(7.75) add cheese(.50) add tomato(.35) I thought it was pretty weird hat they charged 35 cents for tomato. The burger also comes with thousand island sauce or grilled/raw onions. I thought this burger was pretty flavorful. The patty was cooked well and the thousand island made it tastier. Still prefer innout secret sauce over this though. Boysenberry(4.25) The boysenberry pie was a bit too tart for me. I finished about ¼ and gave the rest to my friend. It also comes with vanilla ice cream or whip cream! Blackberry(4.25) Is it the best burger? No. But it’s definitely better than average.

Made the special trip up here with a lady friend to try one of the best burgers in America. Place has a very«old school» diner Americana feel. Lots of wood countertop space and seats going from the front to the back of the place. We were seated quickly since it wasn’t too busy. Waitress was nice and friendly. I ordered up the famous hamburger with grilled onions and American cheese, with fries and she got a Swiss burger on rye. Food came out pretty quickly, and I was excited to try this epitome of culinary craftsmanship. The burger was good. Really. All the ingredients were fresh. From the crispy crunch of the luttuce to the thicker-cut pickles and the homemade thousand island in the soft bun. But… It’s just that with every bite, my tastebuds kept telling me «this is like an in’n’out burger.» We also go some fresh strawberry pie. And it was very good. Not overly sweet, and very fresh berries, in a buttery and tender crust with just enough flake to it to have«flaky goodness» come across my mind. Better than the burger really I can see why the«pie» comes before«burger» in the name. I may come here again, but not likely for the burgers $ 10 for what amounts to a slightly larger in’n’out burger is not in the cards for me. However I do recommend the pies without reservation if their other pies match the strawberry pie in quality.

Feeble attempt to recreate a California Classic«In-N-Out Burger». It’s a straight up legit cheeseburger with 1000 Island dressing layered with lettuce and onions on a steamed bun. Flavors are there but it tastes very similar to a local favorite and at a higher cost. Because I ordered from the Food Truck the Burger, Fries and Soda combo was $ 12.50. I cannot rave about the fries because they were bland and not crisp. Overall, it’s a decent burger and now I can say I’ve had one.

I was rather underwhelmed and disappointed by my dining experience here. To start, the level of service here leaves something to be desired. Among other things, the diner’s waitresses appear to be rather burned out and disgruntled in their general demeanor. They really don’t seem very happy to be working there — not that I necessarily blame them, but it doesn’t exactly translate into a very positive atmosphere for the customers. Overall, the service was not the worst I’ve ever had, but ther
