We eat here and we have them cater meetings. Usually a 4 star experience but last visit they«were out of» fried rice and there were no calamari with my meal. I like their chicken satay with the peanut sauce, the pickled cukes are always good but a disappointing moment to not get two other parts of the meal I was expecting.

The first time I came to Saladang Song many years ago, I loved the food and the ambiance. However, my husband and I went there recently and the food and ambiance completely changed. The patio outdoor sitting wasn’t as pretty and lit up as it use to be. The big disappointment was the food. I ordered the Yellow Thai Curry and it was bland and watery and didn’t have the usual kick. My husband ordered the deep fried catfish, but he was discouraged by the lack of meat on the catfish and the flavor wasn’t up to par. My favorite part of dinner was gulping down my tall glass of ice cold beer. ;) In the end, we found out from one of the waiter’s that the ownership recently changed. I guess that explains the change in food and décor. Overall, we probably won’t go back. My husband said if he had to eat Thai food he would opt for Original Thai BBQ, better food and price.

We always loved Saladang and Saladang Song, but they recently changed their menu and now they’re even better! The new Orange Chicken and Basil Chili Beef are spectacular, and now they serve a dish very similar to one of our old favorites from Saladang, the Dried Chili Cashew Beef. Lek has often been our waitress and she is great and a lot of fun. We LOVE Saladang Song. Corn fritters forever!

The restaurant is beautiful, but the menu has seen better days. Half the appetizers are unavailable, tackily taped over with tiny pieces of paper. Their famous Papaya Salads were down to just one, and that one was just whatever. The Red Curry, however, was done just right. The texture is just thick enough, and it has a delicious burn. The Mango Sticky Rice was an imposter. I guess Thai yellow mangoes aren’t in season because they used regular. Which really doesn’t work with sticky rice. I love Thai food, and I was fully prepared to love this place, but sadly, Saladang is not my Song.

Was here for a wedding rehearsal dinner. Location was great, and the place looked modern and hip, however parking is very tight. I thought the food was just ok. I felt the pad Thai was a little too tart for my liking. The sauces were very thick and sticky. There was a bitter after taste in their Thai iced tea. Service was just ok. A lot of the servers seemed exasperated if you asked them for something. And a lot of the times I would request something and they never came back with my request. Hmmmm… I don’t think I will be back.

Saladang was just alright — my main feeling was that everything tasted very heavy. Thai food is supposed to be flavorful and light. We had Tom Yum Goong, Tom Kha Gai, Pad Thai. It tasted as if many substitutes were used for ingredients. Lemongrass is a key ingredient to many Thai dishes but I didn’t see any lemongrass in any of the dishes we ordered. Instead everything tasted overly sour as if lime was used in substitute, whereas lemongrass provides a subtle sour flavor. The Pad Thai was also unusually thick and I can only describe the flavor as «ketchupy» as if that was the main ingredient used for the sauce and flavor. Overall, I wouldn’t visit again. This is only the second Thai restaurant I’ve tried in LA so there are many more to try. Side note: The staff were very courteous and friendly!

Pretty good thai food for a really good price! The ambiance is always really nice and for the most part there is never a long wait to be seated. The customer service is pretty good as well despite there being a language barrier. The last time I went, i requested that i have no fish sauce in my dish as I am allergic. Normally this has never been a problem but shortly after my meal I got an allergic reaction. I still think this place has a lot to offer but I will be taking a break from it for a while.

I came here many times for lunch, dinner, and for celebrating special occasion. This time we came here for a big surprise 90 year birthday party for lunch on a very hot summer Saturday. It’s a beautiful restaurant in Pasadena. We sat at a very long table; it was difficult to chat with everyone that attended this huge party. I was very disappointed with the food this time. We had the following — *Thai beer — 5 stars(good on a hot summer day) *Coconut Fried Shrimp — 3 stars(just okay) *Satay Chicken on sticks with peanut dipping sauce — 3 stars *Roasted Duck Salad(Yum-Ped-Yang) — 2 stars(didn’t taste like roasted duck; less duck and mostly all salad) *Seafood Curry — 4 stars(it was just okay) *Fried Whole Catfish(Pla-Tod) — 5 stars(the BEST!!!) *Beef with Red Bell Peppers– 2 stars(nothing to brag about) *Mixed Vegetables — 1 star(tasteless; no flavors!) *Yellow Curry Chicken with Carrots & Potato in Coconut Milk(Gang-Ga-Ree) — 4 stars *Dessert — 4 stars(beautiful hand/knife — carving apples, oranges, kiwi, and grapes) The staff was not very attentive — 2 stars(they brought out the birthday cake when the 90 year old birthday girl was still eating her meal!) Are they trying to hurry us out the door? Not very professional.

Went here about a week ago. this would’ve been a one star but I gave it two because food was actually good. This service with decent up until we received the bill. We were sneakily charged for something that we were under the impression that the item came with that meal. When we complained about it they did not care the slightest bit and were extremely rude thereafter. So sad when horrible service ruins a meal.

This is not our first time here. We have visited on numerous occasions, however due to the constantly decreasing quality of food and service this will be our last. We ordered 3 main courses and it was very disappointing. The yellow curry was weird – as if the chef run out of the usual spices and decided to add lots of curry powder to make up for it. The duck-rice was terrible. It qualifies as the worst duck I ever ate. The appetizer was also flavorless. The«highlight» was the 8 inch hair in the sticky rice! Service was OK but not for a restaurant that pretends to be classy. Don’t waste your time or money on this.

Do not waste your time or money on this less than mediocre Thai food experience. This was very sad and disappointing as Saladang Song used to be an awesome restaurant. I haven’t been in probably 8 years and it has seriously taken a turn. First of all, it says on their website they take reservations but when I called to make one for a Friday night(by the way, you don’t need a reservation. The place was empty.) I was told, «We don’t take reservations.» I really dislike when the published information is not accurate. We headed in around 6:00 p.m. and the place was desolate. One couple with a baby seated inside and that’s it. The tables on the outside patio were messy with tablecloths all blown off and half hanging on. Once seated, we opened our menus to find half the items whited out with a strip of correction tape. We looked at each other and considered leaving right then. We should have. Two waitresses over by the counter locked in a gossip session, could barely tear themselves away to take our order. The man who brings water and clears plates is completely unresponsive. Every time he appeared, we said, «Thank you» and he just ignored us. Yellow curry with chicken, very watery. Other dishes, just okay. Overall experience, not good at all.

This review is mainly about the service. I had been coming here for about 4 years whenever i was in the mood for some thai food. They had decent thai food and service was just normal. But today… My bf and i came in around 3:30pm for late lunch. The restaurant was clearing up from large parties and we were rudely seated by a rude server. Really dude, if you don’t want to work, work somewhere else. -.- He doesnt even take our order and instead starts pulling empty tables around us and is in the way. We ask to order and he tells a girl waitress to take our order instead. Long story short, food was decent. But serious bad attitude with all the waiters. I saw the waiter who brought our food sneeze like 4 times into his hands and not even wash it. Wtf man, thats really gross. But i didnt even want to talk to him. I avoided touching where his hands were. Gross. Thai tea tastes like shit, waiters have bad, snarky attitudes. Not coming here again. i will look for better thai food else where.

I came as a guest for a HUGE surprise party so right off the bat, my experience at this food establishment was not average. First off, it’s nice to know that they cater to humongous parties. I think the party was about 50 – 60 people? It was something like that. They had a bunch of servers tending to us and bringing us water and whatever else we needed. As for the food, I think that was already pre-arranged with the staff because we weren’t given any menus and they just kept bringing out food. I’m not sure if the items I’m about to list are even things on the regular menu so if I describe something awesome and it’s not available, I apologize in advance. The corn fritters were amazing. I’m almost sad I don’t have a photo to accompany this review of all the deliciousness I consumed, but oh well. The corn fritters were literally fried pieces of corn clusters that went great with this sauce. The beef salad was delicious, the pad Thai was amazing(not too sweet), the curry was delicious as well, and also they brought out an entire cat fish or some other fish that looked like a cat fish. Wow, talk about presentation. I’m sure there were other things that were eaten, but I can’t remember what exactly they all were because I ate so much that night. If you have a special event that’s going to involve a lot of people, try coming here. It was a great experience and the staff was extremely helpful.

I came here recently for my cousin’s baby’s first birthday party. She rented out the whole restaurant. The interior is super elegant and modern. That was the highlight of the restaurant. The menu was preset and unfortunately the food didn’t deliver the goods. We started with spring rolls with 2 dipping sauces. Pretty typical. Next came duck salad. My favorite dish of the night. The sauce was rich and the duck was tender and fatty. The bbq chicken was dry, as was the chicken satay. Meh. The pad thai was so sweet, it was inedible. The sweetener tasted between honey and plum sauce. The mixed veggie dish was meh. There was also a seafood dish with basil in a hot, spicy sauce. It was alright. There was a few servers hosting 80+ people so service was pretty slow. Overall, the food was surprisingly bland and can’t recommend this place although the ambiance and décor are amazing.

Saladang Song is a pretty average Thai restaurant for the price(it’s on the more expensive side of the spectrum relatively speaking). I’ve been here twice; once with a large group and arranged menu and a second time with my fiancé and friends. I remember liking it better the first time but perhaps I was less focused on the food and more on the party. We ate at Saladang Song on a Friday night for dinner. There were four of us and we were seated right away(in fact, my fiancé and I arrived first and were seated as soon as we got there, which was nice). My fiancé and I tried the Kao pa-gao, which is stir fried chili and basil with a choice of vegetables, tofu, or meat. I chose the vegetables. This dish was okay; I asked for it to be made very spicy. It came out with a decent heat but probably could have been spicier. I wasn’t crazy about the sauce they used; it was a little too much liquid and was heavy on the soy sauce. The vegetables were also kind of a letdown as there was a lot of celery(I’m not a huge fan) and bok choy as well as some red bell pepper and what I think was pea pods. Overall, a lot of crunch and not much variety. Eggplant or well done carrots would have been nice. Somewhat boring. The second dish was Pad Kee Mao Ped, which was roast duck with flat rice noodles, basil, bean sprouts, and chili. This was better than the other dish but could have been better. The duck was overcooked and they really skimped on the noodles. In fact, for the price, the portions of both these dishes were quite small. My friend’s yellow curry looked pretty good and seemed to be a home style curry with large chunks of chicken and potato but I didn’t taste it. However, the dish was labeled spicy but based on their comments it was probably mild. The service was prompt and the waiter polite. Saladang does have a nice outdoor seating area and a lot of space inside so it is good for large groups. However, I probably won’t return here on my own since there are so many better Thai restaurants at this price point as well as at lower ones to choose from.

Saladang Song is certainly one of the most breathtaking Thai restaurants ever. The combination of soaring concrete walls and the courtyard for al fresco dining is just so perfect for a summer’s meal. I had been irregularly before for dinners and remembered a coconut sauce over rice noodle dish I didn’t enjoy and solid versions of staples like pad Thai. We started coming here for work lunches and their lunch specials. Their specials are a great value because they come with the chosen entrée, rice, salad, sometimes fried calamari, and… the clincher, a scoop of chocolate chip ice cream for dessert. Everything is pretty good. Their pad Thai is solid, the fried catfish is crispy, and the basil beef soy saucy and aromatic.
