It was a Friday night and the wife and I decided to eat Chinese food. This place was recommended by my brother in law and I also looked it up on Unilocal. So we took a drive and ended up here. Walked right in and got a seat. We ordered drinks and looked over the menu. The Tsingtao was a very light, crisp and refreshing beer. It really quenched my thirst. To eat we ordered pan fry noodles with veggies, spicy pork in garlic sauce, orange chicken but it had a different name and we had a beef dish. Food was authentic and good. I would have to say my favorite was the orange chicken. All meat was tendered and veggies cooked just right. The staff was a little busy or short staff. A couple times we had to flag the staff down to get refills or place orders but all in all it was a good experience. We will be coming back and trying some different dishes.

Great quality of food and the service is good as well. There’s been a lot of famous people that stopped by here that’s what I first noticed when walking in with all of their signed pics on the wall. Pretty convenient right off of Colorado on the east side of pasadena.

Soo disappointed. DTLA is the best, horrible service, food lacked luster and quality. Seriously worst experience… what a shame to ruin a legendary tradition. Shocking… I can’t believe the difference. I wish we would have gone to Subway. My stomach actually is nauseous. AND no receipt only our credit card receipt. $ 125.00 for four sad diners. And we still tipped 20%.

We always hit this place up when we are in Pasadena. It’s definitely one of our favorite Chinese food places. Never been crowded when we go. It’s pricey but the portions are huge and the food is great.

Good food. The slippery shrimp is my favorite dish. The spring rolls are also very good. Been visiting Yang Chows for over 7 years and I feel the cooking is getting a little off. Used to be great food. Also wait staff at the Colorado location used to be more friendly and helpful. Today’s experience was just ok.

I grew up going to Yang Chow in Chinatown, but due to the proximity and ease of access, I’ve been visiting the Pasadena location more in the past few years. It’s not the SGV type of Chinese, but it’s an American take on the classics that satisfy the masses. Of course, the Slippery Shrimp is a must. Always perfect. If you can’t have the shrimp, try the Slippery Chicken, as it has the same great sauce and seasoning. The 3 Musketeers Lo Mein comes loaded with beef, shrimp, chicken, and plenty of noodles for you to slurp up. Additionally, ever since my go-to won ton soup place changed ownership(and recipes… boo), I’ve grown to appreciate the Yang Chow version. Of course, get the fried rice and crunchy noodles. Can be on the pricey side if it’s just for one or two people, so go with a large group and/or make some room in the fridge for a ton of leftovers. Finally, you get a nifty«Year of the(fill in animal)» scroll calendar around the end of the year with your order. Gung Hay, Gung Hay!

Even better then the downtown LA location, the food here is excellent. A more relaxed atmosphere as well. Very accommodating, even during busy holidays without reservations has been our experience over the years. Much friendlier then your average Chinese restaurant.

The food cost about 20% more than your typical Chinese food restaurant, but it is well worth it. The food was excellent! Our favorite restaurant closed… Lease not renewed and have not been able to find great sizzling rice soup until now! Their orange chicken is also great and u can tell they make their own sauce… Great food! The service could use a little improvement, but understandable done the restaurant was full. Will definitely go again!

Some items above average such as the Slippery Shrimp. Not all of their items are above average though, so be careful of what you order ! But, beware of the female owner and her staff of Managers. They all treat you as if you are lucky that they let you into their restaurant! Now, I can see why this restaurant is usually empty. … I feel unwelcome when I come in here. Owner never look you in the eye when you speak to her, and she has a very RUDEATTITUDE! When you are asking a question of her, she is very curt and short with you !! Seems like she doesn’t really need her customers or care what they think. It’s really weird. Her Managers are just as rude as she is. She trained them well. Also, I got an eggroll on my plate of brocolli and beef very soggy. I asked the Manager if I could have a fresh eggroll. Wow, you’d think I had asked for a ton of food for free !!! He made such a BIG deal over replacing one little eggroll I almost got up and left ! Said he’ll make an exception and do it this time only !! Wow, I don’t take advantage of things, But these people are CHEAP !!! Anyway, I won’t come in here and eat anymore, I just don’t like how they make me feel. Guess If I have a hankering for slippery shrimp, I’ll just order to go!

I’ve been coming here for YEARS just for their slippery shrimp which is mind blowingly delicious(I know«blowingly» isn’t a word) — super crispy not too spicy with tons of flavor. The hot & sour soup always hits the spot and their fried rice is super tasty. Also their customer service is superb… they always kept checking up on us and making sure we didn’t need anything else. Once you taste the slippery shrimp you really don’t need anything else.

I’m not big on Chinese but I felt this place was just above mediocre. Mediocre being three stars but since overall the service was great. I rounded up to four. The portions are rediculous. At first I thought the prices were a lot but after seeing the portions it’s a great deal. We got three entrees with an app and for 3 people could barely finish two. Slippery shrimp — yum pork green means — ridiculously good, i want the recipe dumplings — good but too big for me to eat. orange chicken — eh I would pass. Service was fast and we never had to ask for refills. They came back plenty of times to check on us and make sure we were content.

FYI, I am not over exaggerating: Yang Chow serves the best Chinese food I have had in all of California. I have had lots of Chinese/Asian cuisine all throughout my life while traveling through Asia and I must say it definitely competes toe to toe with the best Chinese food I have had through out Asia. Yang chows fried rice has a certain flavor that I have not tasted through out all of California. The beef plate(forgot the name) is easily the best I have had; its crispy. What do I mean by it? You must try it. Slippery shrimp: absolutely perfectly coordinated. #198

Slippery Shrimp, Slippery Shrimp. Going to My Tummy! Found out they had a location in Pasadena and had to give it a try. We decided to come during lunch, and got there right when they opened. NO wait! We had the following: Slippery Shrimp — $ 16.50 House Special Shredded Beef — $ 14.50 Yang Chow Juicy Steamed Dumplings — $ 8.50 Since these are all specialty dishes, did not get them on the lunch menu. My favorites — Slippery Shrimp and House Special Shredded Beef. They were a little on the saltier end, but nothing a nice bowl of rice couldn’t fix. Probably would not order the Yang Chow Juicy Steamed Dumplings again — the skin was too thick and didn’t retain the juices like the dumplings should. Need to eat the Slippery Shrimp there — it wouldn’t taste the same if you ordered takeout — it loses the crispiness.

We finally had the time to stop by and eat here, that our friend recommended us. We ordered the slippery shrimp, beef and broccoli, beef lo min, and wonton soup. The service was good, and knowing how Chinese customer service is(NOTBEINGRACIST, it’s how there culture is) it was good. The food was good, everything that we ate was good. The slippery shrimp was good it reminded me of orange chicken, the beef and broccoli had a lot of meat and easy broccoli just the way I like it. Plus we had extra food to take home. The pricing was a little over priced, but can’t complain. It was worth it

My family and I always saw this place just driving through town but have never suggested it for a place for our family dinners. Well tonight that changed. We walked in, and we were the ONLY Asian family in the restaurant, and our immediate response was«great, an Americanized Chinese restaurant.» Usually in those cases, the authenticity and taste isn’t there. SO wrong! FYI, if you’re in a hurry, don’t worry. The food comes out SUPERFAST. Fish Fillet with Hot Spicy Garlic Sauce($ 15.50) Wish there was more fish, but the taste was awesome. It’s not spicy at all, so don’t be afraid to get this dish. Our family engulfed this dish as it was the first dish to be finished. Pan Fried Noodle($ 11.50) Huge portion with tons for chicken with your noodles. Awesome awesome awesome. Dry Sautéed String Beans(with Minced Pork)($ 11.50) Can’t be a dinner unless you get your veggies. Another huge portioned dish. All of the above are recommended. Coming back soon, for sure.

This location is pretty non-lively compared to the original location in Chinatown. However, that can be a good thing if you don’t want to deal with the wait, crowd and noise. My favorites at Yang Chow are: 1. The one and only slippery shrimp: Crisp, sweet, tangy and difficult to replicate, no matter how many copycat slipper shrimp recipes you find online! This is a must-order every time I visit Yang Chow! 2. The tender and flavorful kung pao chicken: Seriously, it is the best kung pao chicken I’ve ever had. I didn’t even like kung pao chicken until I’ve tried it here! 3. Yang Chow fried rice: Because I am not a fan of their unusually loosen white rice that I’ve theorized to be one of those cheap instant white rice, I go for this. It’s flavorful and goes great with kung pao chicken and slippery shrimp. I am not a huge fan of Chinese food but I am a fan of Yang Chow. The taste is flavorful and the quality is top-notch! A little pricier compared to other Chinese restaurants but you get what you pay for — Chinese food that is satisfying and stands out from the rest!

Love this place, it is never that busy when I have gone and service is good. Plenty of private lot parking and conveniently near the freeway. Slippery Shrimp by far is one of the two best dishes I enjoy at any Yang Chows. Crispy on the outside and soft in the inside with a tangy sauce that compliments the shrimp well. Also ordered the beef and broccoli which had a thick sauce to it which I enjoyed, was not watered down like other beef and broccoli dishes. Beef was flavorful and the broccoli was crunchy. Last dish was the combination lo mein with chicken, beef and shrimp, this dish is truly delicious. Prices have gone up a bit but that is expected for the portions you get here. Will return.
