Kudos to «James Chris» for making this visit amazing! I will continue to commute the 2 hours to just come here and eat. Please bring back the fillet mignon burrito and Oaxaca oysters. The chefs were able to create something similar which was definitely appreciated. By far some of the best customer service.

Good service and food was great. We had the chips and salsa for appetizers, very good. Tacos for main course, you get 4 small tacos whic wers delicious. I had the carnitas and my wife had the bbq chicken, both were great.

Awesome margaritas and drinks. Love the Paloma margarita. Fish tacos, chilaquiles and slow beef braised enchiladas, ahi tuna salad were amazing. Be careful with the kids menu– the quesadillas and burritos can each feed two hungry kids. The portions are huge. Will definitely be back when passing thru the area.

This place is AWESOME! I had the halibut fish taco. There are 4 that come on a plate. It had picked onion and olive oil(I think), lime juice, and a soft shell. All I could say… is I inhaled it.

Surprisingly excellent food for such a large place with a rougher vibe(more bar-like than elegant restaurant). Chips and salsas impressed with three expressively different salsas and fine chips… but the star of the show was the El Jefe combination which totally blew me away… I can’t begin to describe the wild combination of flavors in this chicken-based dish. Great service, too.

Omg yum! Do not miss the salsa trio and definitely add the guac. The food was incredible and the drinks were perfect. We took our dog on the patio and stayed until the 9 pm happy hour. Next time we are in Paso, this is definitely on our list!

The Fish Gaucho was an incredible dining experience. The restaurant was busy, so we grabbed a seat at the bar while we waited for our table. To our delight, we were served by Tony– one of the most knowledgeable bartenders and servers I have ever encountered. We gave up our table because we were having the best time at the bar and enjoyed our meal there. The food was outstanding, the drinks were top notch and the service was unsurpassed. Thank you for an incredible evening Fish Gaucho. We will undoubtedly be back soon.

After two very different visits, in different years, times of day/week, I feel strongly about this place being great. The food selection is fun and does tend to represent a twist on Mexican that is identifiable yet new. The perfect combination of fusion. Each time I’ve been here I’ve enjoyed the salsa combination. Green and smooth, red and saucy, and chunky pico. All good. Great drinks. I’m not a mixed drink guy but the margaritas are amazing. The beer selection is good too, and caters to the craft side a bit. The food. I’ve tried a variety of things here and I think they were all good. No one dish stands out as the must try, but I have not had them all yet. The atmosphere can be quite loud at times, and depending on where you’re sat it can feel/be very cramped. If this bothers you, just avoid peak times. It does make it feel like a bustling place though. Service each time I’ve gone has been polite and accommodating, be it with babies in tow, or a foursome of adults who just want to sit and chat while we graze with our food. I don’t mind the price and feel like it’s on par with restaurants of this style. Fish Gaucho joins a list of what I would consider SLO-worthy spots doing business in Paso, catering to the deeper pocket crowd. Holding company with Artisan, Mistura, and Thomas Hill. I like it! Again, I’m not a big spirits fan, but this is the place I’ll go to try some of the best. The yhave flights and next time I go I’d like to try one for sure. While the menu is not staggering in terms of choices, and while I have not seen it rotate, I think there is still a good enough variety and choice to encourage me to come back again, no doubt. Their daily specials are pretty amazing too, and I know those rotate, so any day you come you can find something fun. Don’t let the noise and crowd turn you away, just dive in and dig it.

Energetic vibe. Noisy place, felt like I had to talk over the noise so my hubby and I could hear each other. That was my only complaint Cocktail menu was creative 3 salsa plus chips was nice appetizer — too much for 2 people Staff was accommodating and nice. Great service Loved, loved, loved the quinoa, ahi and avocado meal. Amazing flavors, absolutely fresh, with best tasting avocado I’ve ever had. Waiter said was from local farms. Would definitely come here again.

First time in Paso and my girlfriend and I are glad to find out the place where the locals eat, Contemporary Mexican Foods perfect for the warmer spring days. Of course, we ordered a tall glass of their craft Margarita($ 11) with quality tequila with an appetizer of chips and salsa trio: rojo + avocado tomatillo + piña jicama pico de gallo($ 7); and we are off to a good start. The drink is delicious and refreshing and the salsas are served over freshly cooked chips that we can’t stop eating! The Chef’s Ceviche that day was Salmon and Halibut, excellent execution with the marinade, just the right amount of lime juice that didn’t mask the freshness of the fish, a slight disappointment is that the salmon over powered the more delicate halibut. I wish that the two fishes could be served separately. We shared a entrée of Seared Diver Scallops, 4 pc., medium rare + butternut squash succotash with roasted corn, onion, asparagus($ 29). Glorious presentation and the chef/waiter even divided up the entrée beautifully as stand alone dishes, anticipating our need. The Scallops had some beautiful crusts and a juicy tender interior, perfectly cooked. While I find mine to be a tad bit too salty(nicely complimented with the field of sauteed spring greens), my girlfriend loved it as is. The dessert of freshly fried churros served with a glass jar of hot chocolate ganache was just about the only way for a satisfying ending, our waiter even throw in a few blackberries based on our short little conversation. The ambiance and the speed of service were among the few things that are critical to any dining experience and Fish Gaucho has delivered the whole fiesta spot on. Salud!

Had a somewhat of a good experience. Had the El «Cobb» Ron salad which was okay. Had to ask for a side of vinaigrette to increase taste. Venue is well decorated with unique items. However the FLY situation has got to go. I asked for a fly swatter in hopes that my waitress would get a clue at the insane amount of flys that were flying around our table which not only did one land in one guests plates, she LITERALLY brought out a fly swatter so that I could do THEIR job myself. I won’t be returning unfortunately due to this problem but the food is alright and encourage people to mention it so that they can get rid of this problem. Hello Troy, I was completely appalled and decided to write my review as I sat in your restaurant. Date and time stamp I believe are on my original post.

A bit pricey for a relatively fast food Mexican restaurant. Tasty fish tacos, 4 for $ 26 Chilaquiles, OK, $ 22 Interesting shrimp with mole enchiladas, 3 for $ 25 4 large scallops with semi-cooked fresh veggies, $ 29; don’t order it Ok but small ceviches, $ 13 – 15 Small but tasty and some unusual margaritas, $ 9 – 12 The bread pudding: the best! Service: friendly and quick, but you have to ask for water refills, or they forget Atmosphere: Loud and lively Native speaker comment: Their menu has a few errors in Spanish: Taco de día means taco during the day! Pescado de día, fish during the day Online, it’s queso fundito, not fundido(melted cheese). Confusing name: gauchos are from Argentina and Uruguay, not Mexico

Ok– Fish Gaucho knows how to do great food. They have the authenticity of Mexican flavor with a modern flare. The restaurant itself is awesome– lined with candles, a nice separated bar area displaying the plethora of tequila options that they have, and clean and modern style of presenting the dishes. We started with the salsa trio which I would recommend to anyone. From there, we progressed to entrees– I got the Shrimp Salad which was fresh and crisp and my mom had the pork tacos which she loved. All good things to report about this place!

There has been plenty of hubbub in regards to this establishment. After a year and a half my wife and I finally passed through their doors. First off, their location might be the best corner downtown Paso Robles has to offer. It is one block off the park and the foot & vehicle traffic is heavy. We tried to get there EARLY and 5:30 was too late for a Saturday evening. The place was overflowing with people in all aspects. After 45 minutes we actually were able to sit on the bench inside and wait some more. When our name was called we were told that they had a table of four that they could transform.(We were five) Bad idea. The vibe, and motif of this place goes a long way up here. It is rustic, trendy and cool. It is wide open and it needs to be because it just is not that big. When we arrived at our table the patrons at the other table grinned. It is as if we were also dining with them. The restaurant has about 15 – 20 tables that seat four and are arranged in a 45 degree or diamond angle. Yes, this looks cool and improves sight lines but this has been done to SARDINE in you in as much as they can. We were very TIGHT and eating like you are an Alligator or a T-Rex is not a fun experience. The Jalapeño Margaritas were great and the Chips with Guacamole and three other salsas was voraciously devoured which was surprising because we had recently left a wine club event where we had eaten. Um, this was addictive like CRACK. My wife and the other three diners split Salmon & Halibut Tacos and I requested the Pozole’. I had not had this soup in quite some time so I went all in. The Pozole’ came with all the fixings(Cabbage, Radishes, Cheese, Cilantro & Onions) and there was plenty of Pork & Hominy in the bowl. The problem is it could have used some spice and HEAT! Everyone else was happy with their meals and liquid concoctions. The service we received was good and the ambience is different for this area which is why humans are clamoring to get in there. I was not totally impressed. They only have three tables that could soundly accommodate parties of five or more and reservations are not taken. I would only return with my wife alone to sit at the bar and take it all in without having to hold my breath because I was stuffed into a small space. Actually, the outside patio tables would also suffice. For my taste there are just too many awesome restaurants to try out here that do everything right.

I had carnitas burrito. When I first saw the menu, $ 16 for burrito is quite a rip-off. However, that is the cheapest dish, I ordered anyway. When the dish was served, I was like«wow». It was huge and very hot! It was very tasty!!! Of course it is better than the big burrito chain… I visited here as 10-person party. Usually problems for a big group is taking very long and dish comes different time point for each person. I was impressed that it didn’t take long and dishes came at the same time for 10 people. The service was friendly. So it is 5 stars!

Whoa señorita!!! You got it all. Fish Gaucho, in spite of the name, has a great location, atmosphere and menu. In the realm of Mexican food, I have several pounds of experience, and yet, I am not really able to say that the food here is authentic. I can say it is original and high quality. Reason being is that they serve traditional dishes with(what I would call) non-traditional ingredients. We were no reservation walk-ins and started with DRINKS at the bar. My Cadillac Margarita was stylishly good. Bar staff lost half a star for ignoring us in favor of the more obnoxious group that elbowed in after us. For FOOD we ordered the Ahi Crudo as a starter. This is a raw-ish tuna blended with onion, tomato and other organic matter served as a ball of goodness on a plate. Quite good. For mains we had an order of Short Rib Enchiladas and Chicken Enchiladas. These are served three per plate with no rice or beans but we found this to be plenty to eat. The enchiladas are served with a cream sauce which is different but good. I will need to go to Mexico to get a better idea of fine dining. I’m mostly taco, enchilada, burrito, chile rellenos, chile verde, tamale in their most basic form. For dessert I had a Classic Mezcalrita which was also quite delicious. SERVERS were attentive and knowledgeable without being intrusive. The ATMOSPHERE is festive and loud with good music. The corner location and open room with high ceiling is very attractive.

Decent but not real friendly. We showed up and tried to go in. The doors were locked so we figured they were not open today, but they actually don’t open until 3 p.m. We started to walk away and it was only 2 minutes until 3. A local saw us walking away towards another restaurant and said they would be open soon. We looked inside the window and there was a person inside right by the front door who looked at us but didn’t even bother to let us know that they’d be open soon. Not real friendly. I didn’t even want to go in at that point but I got overruled by my group. It was pretty empty when we were there so you’d think they would have at least opened the door and said, «we’re almost open». Guess they don’t want the business. Everyone in my group liked the food, nothing spectacular but the presentation was great and the décor fun. I’ve been here before and sat at the bar, the bartenders have great fancy drinks with flair and fresh herbs, but you get a bit of an attitude with the high caliber drinks. So if you like the fancy and the attitude this place is for you, if you like warm and welcoming I’ wouldn’t recommend it. Too bad they can’t combine both. Feels like the old Hollywood attitude where you can take it or leave it, not really the warm and friendly we’re used to in Paso.

El lugar es agradable, ahí acaba todo. Proponen vinos de diferentes uvas, pescados, carnes, etc. Lo ponen con un picante que hace que no puedas saborear ni el vino, 14 dólares la copa, ni el pescado, 24 dólares el plato
