Four stars, because I think this should really be a 3.5 star place. This is more like a good«fast food/Americanized sushi place.» Its not authentic any any means, but its good. Portions are pretty big, although it maybe a little expensive, I do think its pretty fair. Clean place, usually the cashier is pleasant and accommodating. W go here every so often. Kid friendly as well.

First time guest. It wasn’t that good, but wasn’t that bad either. There was nothing special or different about the menu items, the décor is modern/hipster, chandelier, wood beam cielings & colorful artwork all over. The rolls(paid $ 50 for 2 rolls, 1 drink, combo tempura & gyoza!) weren’t amazing, didn’t taste super fresh, everything was room temperature, besides the fried gyoza & tempura combo. The jalapeños had no heat or flavor, everything tasted the same. You can’t actually see the chef prepare the sushi, he was behind a wall, only table seating, no sushi bar. It was ok, but there’s much better options in town, this seems like the fast food of sushi places. The girl working the register was nice, the dining area was really clean too. Don’t know if I’ll visit again. But my motto is «you gotta try everything twice! »

I would like to give a review but, despite our efforts to eat there, and with posted hours until 9, we walked in at 8:42 and we were told we could only get food to go and no fried or tempura. So I guess they should post their REAL operating hours. I may try again and hope they are not sweeping the floor when we arrive next time.

Not a Sushi fan, but they have some great bowls, cost is maybe on the higher end, staff not always happy to see you. Seems like its a chore to wait on you. Don’t be in a rush sometimes they can be slow. But again there bowls are very good and can be worth the wait.

This place far exceeds the quality of a «sushi-to-go». I had the dragon roll and spicy tuna roll, both rolls surpassed a lot of their high-end diner counterparts. I would like to point out the cute waitress(Kiani) she was wonderful. She had an upbeat and nice personality. It is always nice to see a smiling face at places like these. When I pass by again, I will make sure to stop and have a quick bite.

We frequent Sushi Kokku because it’s right across the street from us. The sushi is good. But it’s not fantastic. I think it’s a bit expensive for the special house rolls in comparison to quality. The chicken teriyaki bowl is AWESOME. And the right price. Would be sad to see it go, but definitely would rather dine at other sushi places. It’s A-OK and convenient for us.

Freaking awesome chicken teriyaki bowl. They guys at work were raving about it for months before I gave in and tried it. I don’t even really like teriyaki and it was amazing. Good price wonderful flavor and fast service. The food was just the right proportion too.

. I’ve ate at the SLO location twice, and now the Paso location twice. Each time I felt like the sushi is rolled loose, and that they fall apart easily. I have been to lots of sushi places and never had this problem anywhere else. Later on my stomach was upset. I think I got me sick. Now I won’t ever go back for sure!!! Poor quality. Not recommended.

Needed something quick and easy after a long day of home renovations, and we were pleasantly surprised by Sushi Kokku! They seem to do a brisk take out business, but there is ample seating in the dining room as well. The cashier/server was crazy busy but very nice and attentive. The sushi(nigiri) selection is very limited, so we only had tuna and eel, but WOW was it good! Huge pieces of excellent fish. Also tried our old stand by, the California roll — large and tasty. Since it was a «new» place to us, we also felt obligated to get a Spider roll(a decadence we rarely indulge in). I had to laugh when it came out — it was the fattest roll I’d ever seen! The end pieces were like a softball cut in half(okay, maybe I exaggerate… more like half a standard baseball). All that, and Sapporo, to boot! The miso soup was yummy, the kim chi portion was enormous. The seaweed salad was a bit lack luster, and the edamame portion was pretty small for the price. That would be the only thing not 100% positive we could say about this place. We will definitely be regulars here, I’m sure! They only get four stars from me because it’s not really a full selection of sushi… but what they do, they do very well!

This place has always had flies. The owners should really invest in an air blower machine for the front doors that blow air to keep flies out every time the door is opened. However there was a locust on the wall today. I totally lost my appetite and will not be back!

Not sure what happened to this place but the sushi has gone downhill. I use to frequent the one in Pismo and SLO. Since moving to north county I started to go to this location. However, the food quality is terrible. I use to love their California rolls but they have really started to change. The sauce that put on it is very plain now. The rolls do not taste fresh at all. Their teriyaki bowls are good. I will just came back for those until I find somewhere better.

I would never come back. The experience was incredibly unsatisfactory. I got a yellowtail spicy roll and an eel and avocado roll. The eel and avocado roll fell apart when I tried to pick them up with chopsticks. They weren’t rolled very tightly. The yellowtail spicy roll tasted like old ingredients were used. By that I mean, the seaweed was very rubbery and hard to digest. The fish smelled off. The spiciness was incredibly mild. But the real kicker was within 10 minutes of arriving home I spent most of my time in the bathroom. I got food poisoning. I felt waves of hot flashes and very, very stomach cramp-y. This was the only thing I had eaten that day so it’s what led me to conclude that this was the place that made good use of the porcelain. Will I be back? Heck no. Will I recommend? No. Don’t let the impeccable interior fool you. (On a side note, I do not know if this was the manager or not but a man in a pink shirt was floating around the restaurant, but was mainly in the back talking to his staff. He had a really sour look on and it made the eating environment a bit uncomfortable).

Not the highest quality sushi you’ll ever have, but probably the least expensive, and the service is friendly, fast and efficient. Definitely a good place if you want sushi and are looking to get in and out in a timely manner without spending a fortune.

Pretty bad … Beside a nice friendly cashier girl with sweet attitude, food was bellow average, too cheap to install or use AC, was 97′ outside, a very heavy mirror almost felling out of the wall, which we told them about and they said they knew about it but seems like didn’t care too much… One day it truly can kill someone… Button line … Just a fest food sushi, which were not cheap.

I had the seaweed salad and the chicken teriyaki bowl and I would recommend both. The food was good but the décor a little lacking.

Expensive. Slow. Not a lot of choices. Go somewhere else to get your sushi fix — it’s worth it.

Love this place!!! They have the best takeout sushi and are pretty reasonable! We always get the Philly roll and the Crazy roll. Udon soup and Bulgogi beef bowl. Great service… we come here weekly

Sushi Kokku is always delicious! I always get their California Roll with extra sesame dipping sauce(trust me it’s amazing) and I get a side of tempura fried veggies and shrimp. The food is very fresh and perfectly made, and we have always been served in 5 – 10 minutes. Even the coleslaw they serve on the side of the California Roll is amazing, and I am super picky about coleslaw! If you want to get a little crazy, I highly recommend the aptly named Crazy Roll. It has spicy crab, spicy tuna, avocado, cream cheese, jalepeno, then the whole thing is friend in tempura and topped with green onions. AH-MAZING.
