Great food. Great service! Love that we have beaches so close to Louisiana. Will be back soon.

We come to Pass Christian twice a year for a couple of weeks. One restaurant we always eat at is Shaggy’s. Service has always been great until last night. Last night was a disaster caused by bad management. The poor servers were slammed. There was not enough staff to handle the business. I ordered the seafood plater and most of the family ordered their fried seafood baskets. The food was cold when it arrived at the table and we had to wait for silverware. I never got my salad with my meal. We all felt so sorry for the waitress that we did t complain. After dropping a $ 100 for 4 adults and two kids, I felt compelled to right this review. What went wrong! 45 minute wait time to get a table when tables were empty but no staff to bus them. Under staffed for business, waitresses and staff slammed Food cold when delivered Incomplete orders Had to get my own refills for drinks No silverware on table after food served Could not find kids menus The table beside us was used as a dump for dirty dishes. It was not pleasant to look at. It his was a disaster of epic proportions.

I ate lunch at Shaggy’s yesterday for the first time after discovering it as a sponsored business on Unilocal. The previous reviews were mixed. In general, the consensus said bad service, good food, and great ambiance. My experience was a little more varied: good service, good ambiance, decent food. The wait time was long and I was disappointed in the prices, which were on par with New Orleans tourist seafood places like Acme, Deannie’s, and even Drago’s. For a self-titled«Beach Dive,» in an empty beach town, I expected to get more for my dollar. While the sandwiches and apps had good price tags, the baskets and oysters were overpriced in comparison. I ordered a mixed basket, shrimp and oysters– there were 6 of each on the plate for $ 16. $ 2+ per fried shrimp or fried oyster(plus a few dollars for fries) says to me that they’re gonna be amazing delectable bites of seafood. The shrimp were cooked well, but I get 3x more of them in an $ 8 PoBoy at home. I really appreciate that they were deveined. I enjoyed the smaller and medium oysters, but I made the mistake of taking a bite of one of the larger ones instead of eating it whole. Remembering what the contents of a large oyster belly looks like is just not appetizing. The large ones were just too mushy and needed to be flushed(is that a thing?). I couldn’t stomach them. I will say that in comparison to one of the reviewers who said their oysters were too small, well, I disagree. There’s probably a happy medium in there somewhere. One thing that really bugged me was their«Cajun cream sauce». Y’all, it was essentially the same exact white pepper gravy you put on a biscuit. It had no resemblance of flavor at all. I mixed my hot sauce with it to jazz it up, but it needed more help than I could give it. It was like dipping shrimp in warm tasteless white gravy when what you really wanted was a tangy remoulade. I would’ve had a desert, but when asked, the server kindly told me none of them were made in house. So much for that! As an aside, the cocktail menu looked wonderful but I was driving home so didn’t try one. :)
