Took a shot with this place down near the water, about a 10 minute drive from downtown Patchogue. We were able to get a reservation only a few hours before going out on a Friday night. Always a plus. First impression was that parking was tough. There are signs everywhere and it seems there is very limited parking for the entire area. We had to call the restaurant, which told us to park in a lot that did not belong to them. I was a little worried about that. Fortunately, we saw a couple of village police officers(writing parking tickets — shocker!) who told us that if we were there for South Ocean Grill, we were OK to park there. Shrug. We didn’t get a ticket, so they were true to their word. Inside the restaurant, it was smaller than I expected. Cozy is a good word for it, but definitely not cramped. Greeted by the friendly staff. Meghan was our waitress. She really hustled and was happy making recommendations. We tried the grilled Mexico City corn on the cob(her recommendation) and loved it! Could’ve eaten a second order of it. Delicious and unique, with a little kick. My wife ordered the Caribbean rib eye and I had THE bacon cheeseburger. It always feels a bit silly when a restaurant claims the have the BEST this or that, but I have to say, it was in the top three burgers I’ve ever had. Delicious bun, juicy burger, thick bacon(not too crispy) and a good sized pickle with BBQ sauce. My wife enjoyed her steak as well. For dessert, Meghan didn’t have to twist my arm very hard to get me to order the key lime pie. This was just a shade on the disappointing side for me – I like a very tart key lime pie, and this was a bit more on the mild, sweet side. Not bad, just not exactly how I like it. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be going back. Just wish the parking situation was a little easier.

Found this restaurant on Unilocal. What a find! There was not one dish we were disappointed in. Mexican corn a must. Kale salad fabulous. Steaks excellent quality, well cooked. All the side dishes were terrific. Best Sangria I ever had. Every dish had something unique about it. Right down to the French fries. We were a party of four, and all four of us can’t wait to return and try something new. Desserts homemade and delish. Our waitress, Megan, was awesome. A definite must!

What a pleasant surprise! My husband and I decided to break away from the norm and try someplace new and different. My husband is a chef for the past 20yrs and hard to please when eating out and he was blown away. The kale salad was AMAZING, the Louisiana Chxn sandwich was right on the money. We also got the chicken club but if I were to have it again I’d def get it on the homemade sesame bun instead of whole wheat toast. Only downside was no liquor, just beer and wine however we will without a doubt be returning

Had a very nice dinner last night. Started with the steak Gorgonzola flatbread that had a nice balsamic vinegar reduction. Dinner was exceptional, wonderful crab cakes and bacon wrapped scallops. Wait staff was friendly and helpful just an overall nice evening out. Sure to come back.

What a quaint little spot down by the water! Loads of ambiance. Let’s start with the service. Meghan was our server she was the only one on for the evening. Restaurant was fairly full. She was so attentive and happy. Specials were all fantastic. Had the soft shell crab sandwich. To die for, one of the best I’ve ever had. Home made sangria was wonderful. Salted caramel cake to finish. Amazing g experience. Will make it a regular stop. So excited, what a great find.

Absolutely AMAZING! My boyfriend and I have been looking for new places to go to dinner since we are tired of the same food and crappy service at other restaurants, and this place blew us away. The waitress was super nice and had a smile on her face the entire time, the wife who owns it helped her and came outside which I love! The husband is the cook and I just have to say, she is one lucky lady to have such a wonderful cook! Best calamari we have ever head and tasted super fresh. We will go back more often and recommend it to everyone we know.

My husband and I went to the South Ocean Grill yesterday to celebrate his birthday. This was our first time here, so we didn’t know what to expect. The food and the service were excellent. The Mexico City Corn ‘on the Cobb’ was incredible. I had the Barrel-Cut Filet Mignon. The steak was cooked to perfection and cut like butter. My husband had the Pan-seared Jumbo Scallops and Rock Shrimp, which he said was amazing. For dessert, I had the Banana Hot Fudge Sundae and my husband had the special Sea Salt Caramel Chocolate Cake, which were both great. The dining room is on the small side, so be sure to make a reservation. This may have become our favorite neighborhood spot.

South Ocean Grill is a delightfully fresh take on a neighborhood restaurant filled with hidden jewels like homemade deserts and breads, delicious kale salad, and great burgers with interesting complimentary culinary twists. The reasonably priced beer and wine list is robust. On warm evenings outside dining is a treat. And then there is management. Owned by Jackie and managed by her sister Michelle these gracious ladies are as two charming and ethereal sea creatures treating guests as family, and enjoying the satisfied smiles of those of us who are sure to return.

Came here with my daughter last night for a little girls night midweek dinner after passing by many times. All I can say is WOW! What a little diamond. The ambiance, service(Meghan was great) and food were fabulous. The bread was fantastic. What a difference when it is homemade! Had the branzino. Perfectly done. My daughter had a burger. She loved it! I cannot wait to go back. So glad we finally made it in. Once the word is out, you will never get in. That is for damn sure. We’ll done guys!!! See you soon.

Came back last night to celebrate a birthday and try some entrees. Previously we’ve taken out and have only tried sandwiches. What a shame we waited so long to try more! The Bronzino was perfect, served up with their amazing kale salad. That salad is enjoyed by kale haters. It’s seriously delicious. The Mexican street corn was so good I was tempted to order a 2nd round, but held back so I could try their desserts. And the artichokes were top notch as usual. Desserts are homemade and were enjoyed by everyone in our party. If you like brownies, the one they make is incredible. Haven’t been here? You are definitely missing out.

What a great surprise. Came here for a double date the other night and we were all pleasantly surprised. Definitely worth wandering off of Main Street for. The menu offers a great selection of healthy options as well as surf and turf type fare. The setting is very kitschy/rustic and welcoming. The server was very attentive. The wine selection was excellent. I recommend the salad with bay scallops as well as the filet. You will not go wrong here. Bring a date!

The food here is really good. It’s a small cute place. It’s little bit pricey but the food is decent. I recommend getting the fish and kale salad. The crispy Chicken is really good and so is the steak flatbread. I think this is a nice place to rent for private events.

With so many restaurants to pick from on Main Street in Patchogue, it would question why when in the area should you stray from here. The answer to this question is South Ocean Grill. My wife and I were dazzled by this cozy, off the beaten path restaurant. From the second we walked in the door we were greeted politely and gracefully. We were seated on time at a table that had amazingly comfortable chairs and made me us feel like a celebrity. The décor pulls off class while maintaining a casual and comfortable feel. Now to the important part, THEFOOD! We started by ordering a pitcher of red sangria. It was amazingly fruity and packed a punch. When looking to take the edge off with a delicious drink, you can’t get better than this sangria. Appetizers came and we enjoyed the Mexican street corn and steak and Gorgonzola flat bread. I am a guy that will usually just pass over corn on the cob but my wife loves it so we ordered it. I couldn’t be more happy that we did. Covered in a smokey chipotle aioli, reggiano and roasted to perfection combined with the natural sweetness of crispy corn made for a surprisingly delectable dish that I could have just kept eating and eating. The flat bread provided another amazing starter. The tender juicy meat was complimented perfectly by the beautiful tang of Gorgonzola and roasted peppers. Earthy undertones were provided by fresh arugula and balsamic glaze tied together everything atop a crispy flatbread for a symphony of flavor that just cannot be beat. Is your mouth salivating yet? For dinner I just couldn’t resist the special of beef Wellington while my wife chose the scallops and rock shrimp risotto. Cooked to a perfect medium rare, the steak melted in your mouth and was seasoned perfectly. The herbs really came through. All wrapped in a crusty puff pastry and drizzled with a delicious red wine reduction. It was just incredible. The scallops were seared perfectly, tender and glistening on the inside combined with crispy tastes rock shrimp over an amazing risotto. This was finished with a white wine lemon butter sauce. Amazing dish. Because everything was so good we decided to see if the restaurant could deliver a trifecta. My wife ordered a key lime pie which was tart, creamy on a sweet crispy crust. I ordered the 5 nut brownie which was rich and still warm covered in nuts and vanilla ice cream. It was a perfect brownie. Both clearly made fresh on premises. A perfect finish to a perfect meal. Kudos South Ocean Grill and keep it up. You have earned our loyalty and we will certainly be back.

Some very important customers were very happy after I brought lunch from South Ocean Grill today. We were super impressed that lunch for eight was ready so quickly, including appetizers & desserts, but even more impressive was that everyone loved their lunch. My dish was the vegetarian burger and it was excellent. It’s the veggie burger to try if you don’t eat meat or even if you do, but want to try something different. Veggie burgers can be dry, but this one is moist and tasty. I shared some with a carnivore and got a thumbs up! Believe it or not, I had two kale salads today and the one from South Ocean was far superior. It has a peanut dressing, corn, and cranberries, which together make a great salad. Even our kale salad newbie liked it! We shared the steak flat bread, calamari, and the Mexico City corn on the cob and they were all well received. For entrees, the scallops and crab cakes were both hits, along with the crispy chicken and the Caesar salad. We were all full, but I’m glad that we made room for dessert. The warm chocolate brownie was definitely the crowd favorite, especially with the ice cream that was packed separately for us. The key lime pie was perfect — not too tart and not too sweet, just right! We also enjoyed the crème brulée cheesecake, more of a cheesecake than a crème brulée, but also delicious. Hats off to the folks at South Ocean Grill. Meghan was so nice and helpful on the phone and in person. And Chef Hirbin created our outstanding dishes. So, my lunch crowd wholeheartedly recommends South Ocean Grill for great food from wonderful people!
