One day while flipping through a back issue of Vogue Knitting magazine at the local libes, I spied in their editorial pages, an item which I just had to have. Only thing was I had to make it myself. So I took down all the details including the yarn they featured and figured it would be somewhat easy to find what I needed. Being a relatively novice yarn enthusiast I did not realize that this was not the case due to the magazine being a back issue and the yarn a bit out of the ordinary. Luckily with a bit of sleuthing and a well placed old fashioned phone call or two I was able to locate the yarn at The Yarn Box. So off I went. The Yarn Box is a charming old school«yarnitorium» ;))) with offerings for knitting, crocheting and embroidery types. The lady proprietress is often there and is willing to offer her guidance whenever possible. On my visit visit it was to the cache of Icelandic yarn I was desperately in search of. I ended up with three skeins in various colors and while I have yet to actually make this item, as the pattern is a bit advanced for me or was at the time(must recheck!) I feel I scored quite a coup with my elusive findings. I have been back a few times since and I am recognized and greeted as one of the crowd by the ladies and gent sitting around the large table. And perhaps the next time I am in Pawling it will be with at least one of those skeins beautifully knitted up as it was intended to be. We’ll see about that! Summer.
