Strange Not shocked that this place closed. One thing it did smell like wonderful freshly baking bread when I went in, which is a plus. However much too brightly lit and expensive drink prices was the downfall. Thanks

Have been here twice… First time there was great live music playing and great service. Second time, service was slower. Both times, food was excellent! I’ve tried the Spinach salad with poached pears and goat cheese, which was very tasty and a nice portion size and came with some bread lab toasted bread… I’ve also had the Twisted Eggs Benedict which I was pleased with! Last time I came, my friends and I split the tomato and mozzarella appetizer which was very fresh and tasty! This place has a great vibe… Open space, high ceilings and a cool décor. Very convenient place to come by after shopping at the Winter’s Market next door.

I always give businesses the benefit of the doubt and start with 5 stars. The meter goes up and down during the experience, but ultimately the bread lab ended on 4 stars. Note — this experience could have been unique, because we went on a Saturday morning at 10am. There were so many wandering Winter’s Market people there just to listen to the live music made it beyond crowded. Bad dancing and small toddler type kids forming a mosh-like pit all by the entrance in the lounge area. But we didn’t let that deter us, as we had driven here just for the Bread Lab. It’s a nice open space with a nice looking bar area to the left and mixture of small high tables and low tables and long picnic tables with benches. Service — There are a few way I view service — greeting by staff, observing staff as you wait and the treatment we receive directly from the staff. This is where they lost a few stars. The greeting was non-existent for the first 10 minutes, we were just left at the door staring at the chaos and a few empty tables with dirty dishes and watching a few of the staff members serving customers with smiles and then rolling eyes as they walked away aggressively pushing chairs out of their way bumping into customers without any appearance of an apology. The family in front of stated they had been standing there for 10 minutes before we had even gotten there and nobody had approached them. They decided to try to sit at an open table and a staff member quickly approached them and told them they had to wait to be seated, so back to the door to stand with us. As the line grew to about 10 people behind us a wait person came over with a clip board and asked if we were waiting to be seated :) uhh yes please. We waited another 20 minutes and were finally seated by a person that just seemed to be annoyed that she had to work. At this point the rating had dropped to 2 stars. This was the lowest point of our experience. Then our wait person showed up… and our experience quickly flipped to a positive direction. She was great, friendly, attentive, visible but not hovering. She was quick with the drinks and keeping us apprised of the status of our food. The menu was much more varied than I thought it would be, my 3 friends all order a type of sandwich and I ordered the hash bash for bunch. So yes, I didn’t order any bread from the Bread Lab, but you know what? It didn’t matter, because my food was flavorful and DELICIOUS and not greasy! I did sneak bites from my friends’ food and because of how delicious their food was, I will definitely go back to try their specialty breads. Just NOT on a Saturday morning. The side of freshly cooked pita chips that accompanied the sandwiches were tasty and addictive as well. I ate all of the green ones out of my husband’s cup… and then my friends’ cups :) The chips(waffle fries) appetizer with cajun mayo was savory and addictive. It almost felt like we were having an eating competition, we were trying to eat these chips so quickly. We received the last cup of cajun mayo with one order so for the second order the waitress stated that we should try the house made ranch. WOW, YUM! Thanks for the recommendation — here is another star :) While I was now in more of a happy place, I couldn’t help but see the people standing at the door, knowing that they might be feeling/thinking what we were about an hour ago. I just wanted to get up to tell them, «don’t worry, it will get better», but alas I watched people walk away shaking their heads. too bad. Hopefully they will come back. Ultimately, I am happy we waited as the food was worth it(see my pics) and our waitress was fantastic. If they can better the start of a person’s experience, easily a 5 star place in my opinion.

Just meh. While my dining companion and I didn’t try the bread, our meals were subpar. I asked for a pinot grigio and they didn’t have any. I went with the honey bbq wings. While meaty, they were lukewarm and the sauce was too ketchupy. My husband ordered the balsamic chicken entrée and said it was bland. The chairs we were sitting in at the bar felt like they were about to break. Might give them one more shot, but probably not anytime soon.

Welp. My first visit was much better than my second. We had a very friendly and helpful server, who made great recommendations for both food and drink and prompt, attentive service for lunch a couple of months back. Had this review been based on that experience, it probably would have earned a «5.» For my second encounter, however, it was more like a «1.» I called in advance to book a party of eight. When we arrived, we were greeted by a sea of fog, as in SMOKE from the bakery. No mention of this was made to us. Perhaps we wouldn’t notice?! Additionally, we were told there would be trivia on this evening, but alas, there was not. Our party(the majority of us were celebrating our birthdays) was taken care of by the uninterested bartender. We were one of a few tables on what I expected would be a busy Saturday evening, so it did not appear he was«weeded». I ordered one of the cocktails off the menu, with one slight modification(rather than Absolut vanilla, I wanted non-flavored Grey Goose). I was promptly told by him that any of the non-flavored vodkas«taste like hairspray» in this particular drink. Forgive me, but I have been drinking vodka for over 20 years and do not need a lesson on what I like… I found him to be condescending… especially when his opinion was not asked. We continually had to share menus, because it seemed having the correct number was a difficult task, so much so that he wanted to know why we needed 8 menus, despite the number of place settings, when initially only 6 and then only 7 guests were present(1 was on route). Next, to say our dishes were not cleared promptly would be an understatement. The food, overall, was good. We got several appetizers, all of which were delicious. My dinner, however, was quite disappointing. I shared the Fruit de Mare with a fellow diner. The dish consisted mostly of pasta and very little shellfish. There were crushed pieces of shell floating in the dish, though, which caused some alarm. The pasta and sauce tasted like they came out of a can. Finally, we were charged incorrectly when we split the credit cards amongst the party. He could not seem to figure out the equal split and acted as if it was a major inconvenience. I was sad that I spent my birthday dinner feeling angered by the ride waitstaff, but happy that I had been thrilled on the first visit(hence the reason for choosing this venue). However, it may take me a while to «get over» this experience in order to return. Perhaps the key is lunch vs dinner?

This is my second time at The Bread Lab. It seems like a natural transition to grab breakfast here before heading to the Saturday Farmer’s Market. This place is relatively new and they have impressed me so far. Granted they are working out some kinks here & there but I blame it on growing pains. With amazing breads, fantastic omelettes and friendly service, I think they’re here for the long haul.

We stopped in here for breakfast during a busy farmer’s market morning. While the service was a bit slow(they were super busy, so I don’t blame them for that at all), the food was delicious with awesome fresh ingredients! I got the eggs benedict and it was fantastic! My husband got an egg sandwich and we were blown away by how big it was for the price. I think we left spending less that $ 20 and stuffed! I haven’t been back yet, but the pizzas look awesome too! We are looking forward to our next trip to this gem!

I think this place has great/interesting sandwiches and serves them in a unique way. The bakery is always running so you can smell fresh bread in the air from the outside. They have some very interesting drinks/cocktails served in Mason jars. I’d like to see some foods with some spice to them, like a fiery aioli. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Only problem I have is the atmosphere; it is very bright and not a stand out space. Almost feels too empty.

According to my husband, «this place isn’t going to give Panera a run for its money anytime soon»; I tend to agree. I love the concept of this place and so wanted this to be my new go-to place. However, this place seems to be going through some growing pains. My husband ordered a soup and salad. The soup was supposed to be cream of leek but there was no cream to be found. His salad was overdressed and included the bottom of the lettuce – who includes that? My grilled cheese was good, but I did not care for the chips that came on the side. That said, I love the atmosphere of this place. Everything is warm and inviting. Love the bar, the couch with bright rugs and accessories, and the attention to detail in lighting and decorations. I’m sure we will give The Bread Lab another shot, but maybe not for another few weeks when hopefully the staff works out the kinks.

Went for Unilocal Elite event. Easy to find coming from Providence, in the dark.(I think that’s called night.) Friendly staff and nice bartender. And i loved the openness of the venue. As usual, Unilocal goodies were awesome. My favourite –the red journal! Hot stuff! But the bestest part of the night was the couple I imposed myself upon.(No shame, no shade.) They were so fun and I cannot wait to see them and break«bread» with them again!

Disclaimer: this review is solely based on our server and the bread board sampler. My boyfriend and I went in around 3pm this past Saturday and were the only ones there post lunch rush, so we saddled up to the bar and met Caitlin. She was the hostess, bartender, server, as well as the food runner and didn’t skip a beat even as the restaurant began filling up. Friendly and attentive service in a really cool atmosphere that smells divine — it’s safe to say we were happy to be there. We perused the menu and only wanted an appetizer so decided on the bread board(when in Rome), and each had a drink. While the draft beer selection was just okay, the wine and cocktail selection made up for it. And then the bread board came out… holy moly that thing is big! Assorted slices of ciabatta, rye, marble, sourdough, and sweet bread came with four completely different spreads to accompany each type. There had to have been at least two full loaves, hence our decision not to order more. Based on our first experience, it’s safe to say we’ll be back to try out some of the other menu offerings.

I had very high expectations for this place. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad, it was just ok. It’s a cool place inside, very industrial. Our waitress was nice but too many«sweeties» and«huns» can be annoying. As for the food I can only go by what we ordered. Crostini with white bean dip = good Reuben sandwich = ok American hamburger = ok Strawberry mojito = terrible, barf The strawberry mojito was really terrible. I’m not sure if maybe they made it wrong or what but it was totally undrinkable. I get the feeling that maybe drinks are not their thing. Stay with something safe like beer, wine or soda.

This recent addition to the Hope Artiste Village has some seriously high expectations to fill and as a result, some growing up to do. Like a good starter yeast, these things take time. I am definitely kinda digging the semi-industrial vibe — kinda. BL needs to make up it’s mind once and for all — are you a bar that serves food or a restaurant that serves booze? Being a little bit of both will not have me craving to come back like I feel as if I should be. The physical space is doper-than-dope, although the open dining area could use quite a bit more focus, in terms of it’s décor. The actual exposed«lab» is a charming novelty, which allows your eyes to actually do something when you happen to find yourself in those hum-drum lulls with your dining or drinking partner. Great name, even better concept and the actual foodstuff from which it borrows it’s name is really tasty. The counter points to these positives would have to be the lost sense of identity of the layout and lack luster draft offerings. I’ll definitely be going back to the Bread Lab, but I’d like to give it some space, in order to mature.

I went here last night to a event and was psyched to see it was located in Hope Artiste Village. When you walk in, the space is so large and open and has that amazing old mill feel. The moment you walk into the building, it smells of delicious bread. I tried several of their appetizers and all were delicious — particularly their crab cakes. Yum! Their craft beer was tasty and they put an added touch by including a Cinnamon rim on my Long Trail Pumpkin beer(yum!) — served in adorable glass mason jars. The one star off is for their mixed drinks. I ordered the Watermelon drink and it was way too strong and just tasted quite awful. I drank about a quarter of it and had to stop. Another friend at the table had ordered a mojito and had a similar complaint. Will definitely visit again to try more of their full menu — love the space!

Just went to the Bread Lab and was shocked by all of the yummy foods! I had no clue that its location was so close to my workplace. This is the ideal cozy place to relax and catch up with an old friend in — on a rainy day or after work for drinks! I had some of the garlic bread slices with the white bean dip = AMAZING.(I could literally eat that everyday of my life) Also tried the flaky bread cups of Mac and cheese, sprinkled with bacon and cheese! The crab cakes were also tasty — just right consistency! The bar is a nice blend of hip added with a vintage old new feel. I had to(cute) mason jar mugs full of their Dog Fish on tap, surprisingly light for a darker beer. Had a nice light crips taste; so good — I had to have another! Definitely a place I will be visiting again in the near future!

Stopped by for lunch after my daughter’s yoga class. I was very impressed with this new restaurant. First of all the space was very cool. It is an open air space in the Hope Artist Village, and it has seating and a bar, for happy hour, and plenty of tables. With art on the wall and colorful shag carpets by the couches, the place does not lack for personality. Second, while I didn’t have a beer, they have a great selection plus a nice cocktail list. Now the food. I tried the build-a burger which was very tasty, the challah was great, the burger tender and juicy, and one topping I chose was fig relish, yum :) They have a kid’s menu, and lots of sandwich choices. Overall, the quality of the experience was good. I look forward to coming back.

Truly a wonderful place and amazing smells and aromas. It has an open great Space feeling with lots of room. Coffee shop/bakery/bar look all in one. The food is simply wonderful and fresh the choices of bread is wide open. The menu is of decent size and plenty of opinion for lunch and dinner. The sandwiches are tops of the list. Today’s choice was a chicken pesto with roasted red peppers, fresh mozzarella and fresh baby spinach. Served with slaw and homemade pita chips. Kids had Burger sliders and an individual cheese pizza. Sampled them all and they were tasty nothing to complain about. Full bar with good choices of crafted beer as Well. Today’s pick was a home grown one from bucket brewery and it was fine. Staff are friendly and kind and polite and efficient. Noise wasn’t to bad but I’m sure it can get pretty loud in there on a busy night. Especially with the high ceilings and open Space. Dessert was very good as Well as it consisted of a Brownie, blueberry muffin and apple turnover. Overall it’s a great place and nice to see an old building put to good use. Will be back and you have to try it at least once if your in the area.

I’ve spent a lot of time at the Bread Lab because I work in the building. Take out service is almost 100% rude when the«manager» lady is working but here are my tips: — When they make homemade sorbet or macarons that day — order them. — Eat in. If you want take-out, order ahead. They haven’t really nailed the whole order at the counter thing yet and it can take forever. — The chicken salad is particularly delicious, so is the mixed grill and the white bean dip app. — «Chips» = waffle fries. — Go when they have events, like their music series where they pair a style of music with a type of food /entrees. — Get a cocktail(I love the watermelon one) Overall they’re one of two restaurants in the building and I’ve gradually stopped coming here because they’re sometimes really rude and sloppy with takeout orders, but eat-in food and service seems to be better.

I really enjoyed The Bread Lab! It’s in an awesome loft space in the Hope Artiste Village. The décor is a cool mix of antique — industrial. The guys that own the bread lab have a successful baking business. This is their foray into restauranteurship. Awesome concept with a large selection of interesting menu options. Service was quick, but could tell the waitstaff scurrying — this did not seem to interrupt good service. The bread here is amazing. We had the sweet and sour sliders(wasn’t crazy about the sauce — too sweet, fruit jam-ish), meatlovers pizza on mutigrain and a prosciutto fig spread asiago sandwich. All were delicious. The sandwich was really(pleasantly unexpected) heavy on the prosciutto and came with a side of highly addictive, home made pita chips. They make good bread, awesome space and décor, quick and professional service with fun menu items — all on the cheap. I can’t wait to head back!

I’m totally into The Bread Lab. Great space, great food, great concept. I am so very, very happy it’s mere minutes from my abode, as I will likely be here on a weekly basis munching their fabulous sandwiches for lunch. For years now, and I mean yeeeeeeears, I have been whining about the lack of great sandwich options in this neck of the woods. There are a couple, but none that had creative, well-crafted gourmet-type sandwiches I was really craving. Enter The Bread Lab, who in addition to a great menu of the breaded wonders also serves creative pizzas, fresh salads, a variety of entrees like lobster mac n’ cheese, bourbon-glazed steaks and a fresh market fish of the day and delicious burgers, as well. The burgers, I should add, are build-your-own and totally scrumptious. My combination? Balsamic Fig Jam, bacon and Swiss cheese. Yuuuuuup. Throw in one of their awesome bourbon cocktails and I’m a gonner. Their beer and wine menus are phenomenal in addition to having a full bar and specialty cocktails. Oh, and they have an impressive array of pastries and baked goods, too. This is a bakery, after all. I love it. The portions are massive and the prices totally reasonable. My gigantic bahn mi was only $ 7(all sandwiches are, actually) and kept me full well into dinner time, and burgers are $ 8 and HUGE. You can swap the hushpuppies for waffle fries if you want, which is a game changer for moi. The one thing I didn’t take into consideration was how long the wait would be for take-out, so now I know to call ahead as we waited for our sandwiches for a good 20 minutes. However, this did give me ample time to stroll around and check everything out, and realize that I should have just planned to dine-in as it’s a really beautiful, raw/refurbished space with loads of natural light and interesting features. In short, this place is great and I’ll likely be here on a weekly basis for lunch, dinner or a sweet treat!

I got to partake of the ‘soft’ opening this weekend. The place looks like it is going to tick all the boxes. It is located in an old mill that was restored, check. Open and spacious, check. Bar, check. Trendy atmosphere with casual seating arraignments, check. They use locally sourced goods where possible. They are serving lunch and dinner. They are doing their baking on sight, breads and pastries. Check, check and some additional checks. I did not get to see the full menu that will be available, but what I did see and taste was fantastic. Nothing like FRESH. So, the pastries are amazing. The sandwich we had was chicken with vedge all on a wonderful warm, fresh baked loaf. The owner and staff were all very friendly and you can tell they are excited. I think this is going to be one of those great places where you can go and hang out with friends and family and wont feel crushed or like you need to sit on some strangers lap. They will have a little something for everyone. I do not know if they have WiFi though.
