518 Barber Shop

This is a great barber shop for all cuts, styles and race of people. My son found his barber here and he comes every 2 weeks for great service and a little mentoring during side convos. All barbers are mature gentlemen who not only want the kids to look good but make good decisions. Pricing is just as any other barber shop with a cut maximum of 20 depending on all the extras.

Being a first timer I was a confused how the line works in this place. I guess you just sit in front of the Barber you want cutting your hair and let him know. I’m sure the regulars don’t have an issue with this. I asked if they take credit cards and they said no. They told me where a few ATM machines were so I took a gamble. When I returned I waited for a while and began to observe. This is a «Barber shop» so don’t expect any pg-​13 talk in here. Guys are free to talk however they want and that’s totally fine with me.
When it was my turn I told the guy what I wanted and immediately I noticed this wasn’t starting off good. The clippers they use are top of the line so they’re guards are different. If you’re use to getting a 4 on top at any other haircut place, expect it to be more like a 2 here. Now if you want a bald fade they use those Remington shavers on you. I was always told at multiple places not to use these because it can spread ringworm. Even if cleaned with alcohol avoid these unless it’s your own. So once he started I went ahead and let him finish but felt a little nervous.
I asked for a edge up and shave and noticed he was a little rough. I didn’t really think anything of it and let the guy finish. I hope he used a new razor on me and not one that was used on someone else. Multiple barbers told me that razors are cheap and you should always use a new blade for every client.
When he was done I took a glance and thought to myself, do I want to sit in this chair longer or go home? It took an hour and my ass was already numb so I decided to leave. The cut was $ 25 total so I tipped and left. When I got home I looked at my haircut in the mirror and saw the mistakes. My forehead edge up was really lopsided, even my wife noticed it right away and said it looked silly. I also saw some cuts on my chin and my forehead from the razor.
Now leaving a «Barber shop» you expect to come out looking perfect and clean. You shouldn’t have to go home and fix your hair at all. They’re supposed to make a man feel confident when he leaves, not the other way around. The next morning I had scabs on my face and head from him shaving too hard and really couldn’t do anything about it but look silly.
My experience wasn’t good at all. I know other people might be OK with this place but it wasn’t what I expected. The only reason I’m giving it 2 stars is because the guy was nice and I felt comfortable in the environment. I really think the «cash only» thing is big inconvenience to customers. Why not invest is a bunch of «square» card readers and hook them up to your phone’s? It’s inexpensive and very convenient.

First time I went in for a hair cut and walked out without getting one because it’s not a place if you are looking for a normal haircut and not lining
Second time I ended up going with my brother for a shave and they did a pretty good job. Recommend for shaves but not hair cut
