The burgers at Chap’s are fantastic: they’re fresh, like all the other food I’ve ever ordered there(pretty much most of the menu). When I come here, I feel like I’m in my own living room, or in my parents’ basement(when I was younger), which is a compliment. It’s a very comfortable place to be, and I love the pool table.

I planned to see a movie at Pelham Picture House and wanted to grab dinner afterwards. I researched on Unilocal!and came upon Chap’s. I was intrigued. It is just a few doors down from the theater. It was a fun night but definitely not what I expected. I walked into Chap’s on Sunday night, the game was on and was very quiet — almost so quiet that I thought I could back out slowly and no one would notice. There were about 12 boys there — I say boys, because they were a bit younger than my demographic. They were so quiet. Texting. Watching football. No one was eating. A gal could do pretty well here(or me if I were a bit more brave) seeing that the male to female ratio was definitely in my favor. But I felt that I was crashing a Superbowl party in my Uncle’s Basement. The menu is pub food. Nothing out of the ordinary. Burgers. Fries. Onion rings. Etc. It is limited. I heard about the beef from the Shake Shack butcher. Score. I also heard about the beer offerings. I dreamed of having a nice beer after the movie. I thought the beer selection was quite limited — bud, bud light, corona, Heineken, etc. Not my bag but I like that they are keeping it simple. Again, the key word is simple. I ordered the burger and fries. One of the men watching the game jumped up and put it on the grill in the back. He came over and asked me how I wanted it cooked. The man behind the bar checked in on me. Served my beer. They even put some music on the jukebox because it was so quiet. A few of the boys started playing pool. My burger came out. Nice thick patty. A heap of fries. On a floral paper plate. A Costco type jug of ketchup was delivered with it. All in my dinner was $ 14. This place is basic, simple, kitschy. It really does have the feel of my Uncle Bill’s basement. I can picture the pool table, the faux fireplace with the flat screen over it, the bar stools, the cooler of beer, and the burger on the paper plate. I’m glad I checked it out. I had so many questions that Unilocal and their website couldn’t answer. Here are some answers for you. They are open daily at 6pm. The accept credit cards(not at the bar) but you can’t write in a tip. They have a little ATM in the corner near the pool table. The fee is $ 3. Plus, I assume my bank will levy a similar fee. Check it out. There is definitely nothing else like it in the area.

Thank God! We finally found our neighborhood dive burger joint. After a night of schmoozing with our new neighbors at Novel Night, we decided we were in the mood for a late night snack. We’d heard that the Chaps burger was similar to Shake Shack. OK, let’s not get crazy here. NOTHING compares to Shake Shack. But the burger was moist, juicy, flavorful. Everything you could ask for in a patty. No frills, either. Patty, lettuce, tomato, ketchup. BINGO. Decent beer selection, too. Looking forward to visit number 2.

Came up to Pelham to check out the picture house and just wanted to grab something fast. Just decided to walk down the street to see what was available. Noticed the billboard outside of Chap’s mentioning that they got their meat from the same butcher as the Shake Shack so we decided to take a chance. We were tempted to do a 180 out the door since it was empty except for the bartender/waitress but we decided to try it anyway. Small menu but we wanted the burger so that didn’t matter. Both the bartender and the cook were very nice. Burger was large and it was great, fries also very good. Actually like his burger better than Shake Shack’s. Surprised that more people don’t know about this place.

I go past here all the time and I’ve been wanting to eat here since I saw that they get their burgers from the same place as NYCs Shake Shack. The burger did not disappoint. Menu is small, though. The place is more of a bar than grill with only evening hours, no lunch. When we got there, it was very quiet. But it filled with music and people as the regulars filtered in. Smokers do their thing right outside the entrance, so it still smells like a bar inside. All the people working there were friendly and attentive. I’m not a drinker, but do like a good burger!
