Was craving Puerto Rican food… and my biggest mistake was wanting Puerto Rican food like I experienced at Raices in San Juan. The food was not even close ! The service was pleasant but the food was not. No flavor and the Mofongo tasted old… I really had high hopes for this place but unfortunately I was disappointed. The food is also waaay overpriced for the location, «ambience», and lack of flavor ! I should have driven into the Bravo supermarket across the street and whip up my own food :/

We called to see if they had Pastelón not knowing it wasn’t on the menu, but they made it for us anyways and it was EXCELLENT! We also ate the delicious Alcapurrias. We’ll be back!

Alcapurrias!!! Yum y mofongo! Very low key and the food is great! Love a place away from home but close to my heart.

Our first time here. The food was tasty and the service decent. Were a bit apprehensive to try the place due to the many negative reviews we saw here but things turned out to be ok. In A casual restaurant such as this you may run into inconsistencies. I had the mofongo with pork and hubby had it with bacalao. The kids had the fried chicken with tostones and milanesa with rice and beans. They enjoyed it. We were craving some traditional cooking and we got it. I would come back.

This place was awful. We went there for a early dinner and the place was empty. The food took forever to come out and when it did it was cold and undercooked. I was so disgusted that I ended up returning my food and not asking for anything else. I definitely don’t have any plans of returning here.

Not good. Some of the food was served still frozen, the pastel had NO taste! They need to change the cook!

Im straight to the point. The pastel tasted nothing like what it should. I asked if they make pionono, and the server looked at me like I had a third eye on my head apparently they will only make it on large orders of 20+. Its a little hole in the wall but you would think they would compensate with good food. Hialeah has El Rinconcito with more authentic PR food.

I was there for the first time two weeks ago on a Sunday. I did not like it. The place needs major renovations. It was dark, the floor had 3 different kinds of tiles, the tables did not look clean, and it smell musty. The food did not impressed me when compared to other places in Pembroke Pines such as Casa Borinquen. You could tell that the breaded steak was frozen and the alcapurrias were raw. Some owners do not understand that the first impression is the most important and the food quality and freshness is key to bring more and more new folks. Again, follow the example of Casa Borinquen. I’d never go back to this place. Sorry.

This was the absolute worst representation of Puerto Rican food. The restaurant was empty, and for a good reason. Although the server was pleasant and courteous, the food was horrific, and overpriced. It was similar to something you would see on Chef Ramsey’s ‘Kitchen Nightmares’. The papa rellena was completely frozen on the inside and tasted like the inside of a freezer. The carne frita(fried pork) was obviously old, dry, severely burnt and had zero flavor. The cubano sandwich was served on a piece of bread that was so old it was not even edible. The sandwich was very cold, had absolutely no seasoning or flavor and far from a traditional cubano sandwich. The french fries did not have even a pinch of salt, either. The beans were fresh out of the can with no added seasoning. I was so extremely embarrassed when I took my husband here to eat a quick lunch. Awful, zero stars.

The mofongo was hard like a brick, the pastel was terrible. The food didnt have much taste, was under seasoned a lot. No salt, would not be coming back Check out El Rincon de Santa Barbara for real Puerto Rican

Delicious. I had the fried pork chunks and the chicharrones de pollo was the bomb with that hot sauce they serve is fire.

Although the food is good, the dishes are a mixture of Dominican spice and Puerto Rican stock. The prices are fair with good portions. The neighborhood is not the best, I would suggest coming early to avoid parking in the back lot.

The location isn’t ideal but the food is absolutely wonderful and worth every visit. If you’re missing the home cooked taste Puerto Rican cuisine, this is the place to go! I have confirmed that every dish is made to order — nothing sits around waiting for the customer to arrive. The alcapurrias are delicious and I’m a big fan of Bacalao a la Biscaina — can never find that dish anywhere but it’s here at La Cocina Puertorriqueña.

Don’t waste your time and money. It really sucks. The old waiter took 45 minutes to take our order with only 3 tables eating and her assistant like an statute standing in one corner. The food was supermediocre. Pork chunks burned the pasteles had an overwellmed flavor of cumin and no meat inside. The whole fried fish was raw inside, evendie it was fried in the same oil as the alcapurrias, pork chunks and chicken pieces. The only good thing was the mofongo, that is way I just give one star.

This is as close as you can get to authentic Puerto Rican food in Broward county. Service was good, the prices not too expensive and the food was good too. I recommend it although there’s nothing better than having Puerto Rican food in Puerto Rico!

From the outside, one might be scared to enter this restaurant. Don’t be scared… go in! The food and staff are fantastic. The portions are large for a great price. You can park in the front or back of restaurant. I had the baked pork monfongo. You can get monfongo plain for $ 5.95 or add a meat for about $ 7 – 9 more. They keep the monfongo separate from the meat. It comes with a ramekin of au jus. The yucca fries are great. They come with a garlic dipping sauce. The empanada is huge. Twice as big as a typical empanada I have seen. I will definitely return!

So I’ve been here a few times before deciding to write a review. This place is savory and consistent! The prices are extremely reasonable. And they have daily specials. I always have a yummy appetiZer such as: an empanada, a morcilla or a small soup… Soooooo good! The Plato Boricua does not fail! Lechon, arroz con gandules and pastel are to die for! My fiancé often order the pork chops with arroz con gandules and tostones. His ultimate favorite. The service is ALWAYS on point and extremely nice :) Don’t expect a fancy décor in or outside… they thrive on their food and that’s what they focus on!
