Good hand held pies and fruit and cream pies, but too expensive for what it is.

First, I’m not one of those people that finds something to complain about. In fact, this review is my first less than stellar review of any establishment. I usually follow the adage: «if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all.» That said, perhaps this establishment can learn something from this review, and implement some changes to improve the quality of their meat pies(which I believe they call«savory» pies). This is not about their sweet pies. I’ve had their sweet pies before, and they were good. As for the meat pies at this place, I believe timing in everything. In other words, I get the vibe that they make most their meat pies in the morning(in a batch process). Perhaps they make an afternoon batch run of pies as well… in preparation for the dinner crowd? God forbid that they keep(and sell) their meat pies that are more than a day old. I.e., sell you a meat pie that was made the day before. Point it, unless you get there whenever they’ve just finished baking a set of pies(whenever that is), you’ll end up with a pie that has been sitting in a warming oven, perhaps for hours, if not longer. I’ve eaten at this place more than a dozen times since they opened many years ago(mostly for their sweet pies). Yet, each time I’ve ordered a meat pie during non-peak dining hours(which I try to avoid peak hours for obvious reasons) it was essentially a warmed over, dried out pie. As would happen to any pie that sits in a warming over for hours, the crust became over-baked and the meat filling was completely dry(hence, lost its flavor). I get it; it’s a small business in a tiny space that can’t easily accommodate a lot of people. Hence, they want to be able to cater quickly to the crowds at peak dinning time. However, given this situation, one should note that the meat pies are NOT made to order. I.e., you don’t place your order, sit down, and wait for the pie to be made right then and there. Instead, they are made in batches, and then can sit around in a warming oven until purchased. So, unless you time it right; i.e., come in just when a batch of pies is done, you will likely not get a fresh meat pie. This wouldn’t be a big deal for a sweet/cold pie, which can be stored for a short time without losing too much freshness. But, for a meat pie, it matters(at least to me).

Awesome pie!!! Get there early for the best choice! Lovely outdoor seating and tons of choice from sweet to savory. I love the personal pie size :)

a wide variety of sweet and savory pies but they’re a little bit expensive per pie. the crust was what you want in a pie, flaky and stable but not too buttery. we had the mushroom and smoked Gouda which was very tasty and a nice afternoon snack. worth a stop if you’re in the neighborhood, at least to see the pies.

Went here about a month ago after finding them on Unilocal. The location is in the cute Petaluma downtown area, where parking can be a bit challenging on weekends. I didn’t anticipate how tiny the shop was, and the line wound through the tables there were. This was early afternoon on a weekend, so it was expected. My boyfriend had called in an order, the first 4 – 5 things he initially ordered they were out of so we ended up ordering by asking what they did have left. I didn’t catch that size should have been specified when ordering. When I left I had two hand pies when we were going for enough to feed several people. All in all the visit was basically a comedy of errors, but the two pies were outrageously delicious. When I say outrageously yummy I mean, order up a size or a second and go early. It was worth it.

We had Petaluma Pies provide the dessert for our wedding on 4⁄22 and we were extremely pleased with their pies and the process of working with Lina and her team. We had a really large order(I believe it was 300 mini pies, enough for each person to have 2) and we made it a mix of Chocolate-peanut butter, Butterscotch, and Strawberry Rhubarb. Working with Lina was great, she invited us to come in for a tasting a few months beforehand where we got to try basically every pie they make – it was a delicious and very fun tasting. Lina was super-responsive to all of my questions and she hand-delivered the pies to the wedding venue herself and when we realized the venue didn’t have enough space to keep the pies cold, Lina lent us her large pie transportation cooler bag, which came in clutch. I highly recommend Petaluma Pies and can’t wait to go back for more!

Damn PPC, I wanted to love you SOVERYMUCH. Tragically, their Elvis Pie was a sad disappointment due to the crust. Hard, stale, and just not something fit for the KING. I get it, making pie can be difficult, it’s why I’m not a pie maker. Although the hype and description seduced me, I would skip this pie unless you know and see that it’s been made fresh. Keep in mind that PPC provides both sweet and savory pies. Some look like empanadas and others look like they came fresh out the oven. Make sure you pick wisely so you aren’t disappointed. Luckily for me and you, I bought 2 pies. I went for what I wanted(Elvis) and purchased the top seller. The top seller is the top dog for a reason. AWESOME, DELISH, ANDTHESAVINGGRACE for my disappointment was the apple-pecan– salted caramel-dream pie. REDEEMED, seriously. The flavors were awesome. The crust was exactly what a crust should be like. The texture was perfection. I give that pie 5 stars. Top it of with some vanilla ice cream at home and serve it up a la mode. You will not be disappointed.

I love alliteration and I love pie. I never really feel like eating a whole slice but I always wanna share, so Petaluma Pie was perfect. A cute small little place with a sweet &savory selection of pies & cakes. The ingredients all spoke for themselves and shined. You could tell everything was made simply with quality ingredients and love.

PIE!!! I love pie. I love this place so much. Great for lunch, snacks, early dinner. It’s so cute inside and outside and everything is great. I love the location. They run out sometimes of specific flavors of savory pies sometimes, but only because it’s so popular! I usually go for the DELICIOUSLYAWESOME warm savory pies but the sweet ones are pretty good too! Oh and the strawberry rhubarb lemonade is freakin’ awesome! It is a requirement to drink it when they have it. Also all the ladies that work in here are really sweet, fun to talk to, and cute.(obviously cute is not and should never be a requirement ever but gosh darnit they’re all so adorable I can’t help my mention it just to let them know!!)

EDIT: Received a really nice message from the owner apologizing for the order mixup which shows a lot of attention to customer service overall. Kudos to him for reaching out to make things right. Next time I’m in Petaluma I’m going to give their savory pies a shot(they smelled amazing…) Original review: The mini pies were okay overall. Not great, but not bad. We got two mini sweet pies(one smores and the other they messed up the order…) The location is cute, but the service wasn’t great. Maybe the woman behind the counter was having a bad day, but she was very short with us. In addition to that, she gave us one of the wrong pies(we didn’t notice until after we had already driven home so it was far too late). Just annoying since we didn’t get to try what we actually wanted.

Absolutely delicious!!! What a magical place! I will make sure my future boyfriend takes me here!!! My friends and I tried the sweet potato(mini/5in-diameter; $ 5), which came with whipped cream. SOGOOD. The filling wasn’t overtly sweet and just tasted like sweet potato, even the texture. The pie crust was also sturdy enough to hold its shape when we cut into it and tasted great. Really loved every single bite of it. My friends also tried the apple pecan with salted caramel, which the server kindly heated up for us in the oven. It was just as delicious. The shop is not big(4 tables inside, 2 – 3 tables outside) but the place is super cozy and has really cute and creative wall decors. If only it were closer to SF… it would be a perfect study spot!

After my mom’s birthday dinner, we opted to get pie instead of a birthday cake. They had so many different types it was hard to pick, we chose an apple pie a la mode. When we mentioned that it was my mom’s birthday, they gave us a candle to light and make a wish. We sat outside, sang happy birthday and shared the small pie. It was a memory that the three of us will never forget.

I believe the true test of really great pie is an amazing pie crust, which this place lacks. This is the second time I’ve been here. The pie fillings are good if that’s all that concerns you, but to be truly great the crust needs to be tasty on its own.

Petaluma Pie Company has got pies of both the sweet and savory variety. Most of the savory pies go fast — thankfully, I got the last pulled pork pie they got. Flaky, full of fresh meat and fresh, the pies here are worth their while. Just make sure to come early.

We went a big hog wild here after lunch. I got their banana cream pie and it was on pointe. I also tried a bit of the yuzu lime cream pie and it was tart and the yuzu made it so unusual. I think we are around 1.25 of their mini pies per person. Everything was well worth the calories.

Stopped by on a weekday afternoon for some hand pie and could resist the sweet pie as well. Nice and clean on the inside and even though there were a lot of people, it wasn’t over crowded and it didn’t take to long for myself and two other ladies I was with to order our pies. I had the masala mushroom and the spinach and feta hand pies and a Pear Ginger and Cardamom mini pie. The masala mushroom was very good, a tad bit spicy but it is masala so what can you expect. The mushrooms were whole, which gave it a nice texture, I was expecting them to be chopped up. I gave up half to my husband and he thought it was quite tasty. The spinach feta is super delicious! Seriously, I was thinking ok, spinach and feta just like everywhere else… no, no, no… this is seasoned so beautifully. Tastes of fresh lemon and savory greek spices all mingled in the spinach and feta just really made this one of the best hand pies I’ve had! I gobbled this one down and did not share. Yum. The pear ginger and cardamom mini pie was amazing as well. Nice strong fresh ginger flavor along with the perfectly baked pears and the spice of the cardamom was just wonderful. All the flavors are just a great combination and it was very fresh tasting. The crust was perfectly browned and tasted great. Next time I already know I’m getting the spinach and feta hand pie!

The. Best. Pies. PERIOD. They sure know their pies. I tried four flavors during my first visit(banana cream, key lime, chocolate cream, and coconut cream). All were titillating on the tongue. If I had to pick my favorite(and that is really hard), it would be the coconut cream. Wonderful creamy, light texture. Honorable mention: the lime pie was THE best I’ve ever had. I have never been a fan of tart pies, but this one well balanced between the sour and sweet. It didn’t make my mouth pucker, but it did make me yearn for more. Forget Marie Callender’s. Seriously.

I love pie. It’s my vice, well one of them and when I’m passing through a small country town like Petaluma, I’m Unilocaling for pie! In the buzz hub of Petaluma, Petaluma Pie is located in a restaurant plaza behind Star bucks. Tiny place with helpful staff and lotsa pies. I’m told the triple berry and apple were the favorites however I wanted something different. I was given the last peach pie-still warm. Toasted brown, fork crimped flaky crust sprinkled with sugar crystals and a heart shaped cut out for the steam — oh boy-was I in for a treat. The lady was funny… you want the whole pie? Damn right I want the whole pie! I didn’t drive from Los Gatos, spend all day at Johnson’s Beach and Unilocal this hole in the wall too have a slice! Box it up! The pie crust was just the beginning of this seasonal pit fruit trophy. The juices spilled out as I raised the first slice from the whole. I now saw the 1 cm cutlets of peach with skin intact and sweet red ripe centers. The warm sweet peach nectar coating each morsel and puddling on the plate bottom upon… I knew I was in for a treat. This peach pie was that good! Peaches still al dante and perfectly sweet. The sugar on the crust was the perfect amount of sweetness to add with the fruits natural sugars. What a delight. Thank you Petaluma Pie Company.

I wanted to like this place. I really did! I gave it two chances and tried two of their pies. A pear cardamon pie and a chocolate bourbon pecan pie with salted caramel. Both looked and sounded really good but tasted mediocre. The cardamon pie had way too much spice to it but the pears were cooked really well. The chocolate pecan pie was too thick and bland but I liked the creativity. This place is really cute and I still want to come back to try their savory pies. Maybe after that my review will change…
