Billy-Ho’s has me nonplussed. It’s a bar/restaurant in the basement of a Pewaukee VFW hall. I don’t think I would have ever walked in if it weren’t for some colleagues discovering it last Summer. That night we were in Pewaukee for the Waterfront Concert Series. After a little music and a brewski or two, I headed home. However, my coworkers were famished and set out to find a bite to eat. As they walked towards their autos, their noses found Billy-Ho’s. No lie! The smell of hot wings wafted through the air and they followed their olfactory senses like Yogi Bear uses his to find a cooling pie on a windowsill. (Men would be very easy to trap, by the way.) Since then, these guys have made Billy-Ho’s their after-work place to chill. Tonight, I finally joined them. It’s as expected: dark, windowless, and plain. The draft beers are the usual macro suspects.(I believe there were four of them.) So far, nothing special… but then the wings. You see them from across the bar. You can’t miss them. Splayed on a platter with a pile of homemade chips towering in the center, your mouth begins to water. The air is filled with sweet peppery smell of Frank’s Red Hot. There shall be no cheeseburger, chicken wraps, or pizza tonight. No tonight(Wednesdays), it’s all about the wings. And this giant platter of wings cost how much?(Wait for it…) Seven dollars and ninety-five cents! Seriously. My wife and I ate ten wings at BW-3 last Sunday and they were 12 bucks. Billy’s platter has 18 far superior wings! Presumably the chips cost $ 1.65 because the wings on Wing Wednesday are only 35¢ each(must be ordered in batches of six). Plus, they’re meaty ones and cooked the same way that the best wings are cooked so that they arrive hot with a crispy, crackly, crimson skin. Oh man, Billy-Ho, you have won me over. My pals had it right, your wings are so irresistible, I can hardly wait for next Wednesday night!

Food is really good and reasonably priced. It’s a bar for sure, so atmosphere is bar-like. But we’ve been here 3 times and service is good and food is great!

Was here for St. Patrick’s Day and have never been so disappointed in the service as I was tonight. Came in at 5:20 and placed several orders with a friend. We had children with us so ordering food was a priority. The kids received their food pretty quick and we had to wait an hour and a half for ours. Interestingly enough their were two tickets, one with my kids order as well as mine. The other with her orders and her kids Order. Twice food was placed in front of us, only to be taken away, given to a different table. Three different waitresses came by to confirm our order and eventually after several trips to the bar to inquire we received our food at 7:20, 2 hours after we ordered. While eating we were approached by one of the employees, and she asked what was wrong with our meal. We politely explained the debacle that happened and she offered us a drink. No interest in a drink as I was the designated driver, my neighbor was done and the third adult is battling cancer. We explained the situation again and told her the right thing to do would be to comp us for our food, she said, «we don’t comp people for their food, it’s too expensive!» She offered us a drink again and a bunch of excuses for the problem; new bartender, new system, lots of people. Funny thing is that one of the owners was one of the waitresses who not only inquired about what we had ordered, but also pit food down only to have it taken away. She did apologize which I appreciate and thanked her for. We said we didn’t expect the whole bill, just our $ 8.95 Reuben and $ 11.50 Corned Beef dinner, but instead she opted for losing our business for good. Never again will I set foot in this establishment which is unfortunate as my family goes there once a week.

I ended up here on a bar crawl for my friends birthday. It’s in the basement of a VFW and you never forget it. Now, I love me some VFW drinking but this place is skewed. Nothing is… comfortable here. No taps that I saw. And kinda surly bartenders. It’s cheap so it gets a few stars for that. Will I be back, not if I can help it.
