CLOSED: Killed by the new Starbucks. Head to Dazzle Coffee for the closest good independent cup of joe. No seating there, but good coffee and addictive chai lattes.

Well that’s just great… It would appear that the bastard corporate souless Starbucks that opened down the street has done in this great local coffee shop. Blue Marble has closed. No more banana smoothies, pumpkin bread, croissants, java, free wifi, local art, good music, friendly smiles and service. Screw you Starbucks… i will not be switching to you i can assure you of that.

We try to support local businesses but well prepared baked goods are a necessity for me. I’d go to Blue Marble Java every weekend if they had moist and yummy baked goods, but alas they only have dried out baked goods which are seriously lagging behind other providers(this is when I tried them a few times several months ago). Their coffee is pretty good when they make it, and they will bring a little french press pot out to your table. Unfortunately their coffee by bulk does not measure up to other local providers(namely Mozart’s) or to the NYC coffee we get shipped in for our french press. I want them to be successful because I like their in-house coffee, baristas, free wi-fi, live music, and a drive thru, but until they get the pastry and coffee cake situation resolved I’m afraid I’ll be going other places.

I moved south so I haven’t been here in a month or so. But I noticed the lack of reviews and wanted to put in my two cents, cuz I dig this place. sure Starbucks is nearby… but you can get breakfast tacos here, amy’s ice cream, yummy treats and the best(only) Thai/Vietnamese Iced coffee around(since green bamboo closed nearby :(The drive thru is great, but if you go in you get free WifI(suck on that SB) and a cool atmosphere. Comfy, chill… Staff is really top notch. I still carryaround my frequent customer card in case I’m ever headed back that way.

Not bad… limited menu. FREEWIFI! No food food, just desserts. Nice tea selection, friendly staff. Think the opening of new Starbucks has hurt business. Screw SB! Very comfy seats + great(not too loud) music in background = great place to study/chill. Smoothies are good. Minor complaint… need bigger straws for smoothies… too hard to get out… I cannot suck that hard ;-)

Blue Marble Sawdust. Didn’t have coffee. My wife saw that they had Amy’s(name-sake) Ice Cream. Q: «Will ice cream make you happy?» A: «For a moment.» Q: «That’s not worth it.» I was right. It was not worth stopping and she wasn’t even happy for a moment. I tasted her ice cream and a bite of the oatmeal raisin cookie then we proceeded directly to Freddy’s to get some custard and get the dry bad taste out of our mouths.

I just moved to the Austin area and I was looking for a coffee shop that has a good study atmosphere. The first time I ordered a latte, it was good, not too hot and the coffee had a nice taste, not bitter. The second time I ordered a chai. It was OK, they use a powdered chai mix and it can be a little strong if not mixed all the way. They also have a variety of smoothies and desserts on the menu. Aside from the chai, I had a nice experience. The staff is very nice, the background music is great, and the chairs are comfy. They have late hours(open to 9) for those of us who are more productive at night.

Finally, an indie coffee shop in the Pflugerville/RR area! Blue Marble Java opened just a few months ago, and they’re still getting their full menu up and running(which will include house-made sandwiches, soups, and salads, in addition to yummy pastries, cake, and pie). They display local art on the walls and have live music on Sunday evenings. The layout of the space is a little strange; it’s quite large, but there are only four tables and two long bar counters – room to grow. Lots of natural light floods in from two large windows. The plus is that it’s always nice and bright, the con is it’s difficult to see your computer screen if you’re trying to work. They may eventually have to invest in some sun shades… The music is ok and usually not too loud to be annoying. The chairs could be a little comfier, and they sit a little low for the table height… I can’t speak for the espresso drinks, as I haven’t tried any yet, but the coffee is good and strong. Make sure to request a cup«for here,» otherwise they’ll give you a paper«to go» cup by default. Overall, this place has lots of potential. All of the employees I’ve encountered are friendly and in good spirits. I hope they get enough business to keep them going.(There’s a starbucks opening up a few doors down…)
