This is my favorite breakfast place. They are all very friendly and efficient, making you feel welcome from the minute you walk through the door. Plates are generous, and enough for two, or for a doggy bag to take home. I love their corned beef hash plate, and the YUMMY cinnamon roll french toast, SOOO good! But resist putting syrup on the top half, it will be too sweet. Save the syrup for the bottom half. Coffee is really good, and they are always ready to give you a refill. They will make you pretty much anything you want, just ask! Sitting in the restaurant is like sitting in someone’s cozy kitchen. They also serve tasty lunch.

7:45 am on a Sunday is very quiet. I’m one of four tables with more than half of the tables empty. Coffee to the able was quick and although I was waiting no more than 15 minutes for two more people to join me the only waitress checked on me twice. Great service. Also, come hungry the portions are large. Easily two full meals can be shared with three to four bird eaters. Those of us who eat too much won’t go hungry even with the smallest of the meals. Enjoy

Great small town feel, great waitress nice and knowledgeable… I ordered the steak medium and eggs. It was not the best that I have had for breakfast but it was a good portion meal…

I don’t know how this place got the reviews it did but… they use margarine(a cheep version at that), syrup had no maple anything in it & it was runny, pancakes tasted like cornmeal, eggs were good, home red potatoes were good. Chicken fried steak was gross, too much salty coating in hopes of it tasting like something? The gravy was flour & blah. Even the water was nasty. I had a horrible taste in my mouth for hours from all the fake ingredients. I ate the eggs & potatoes. My dogs didn’t mind the other stuff. Drive the extra mile & go to Ricks or Mtn Top café. (I have never tried their lunch)

Wonderful place! This is a small, cozy, family café. The people are friendly and welcoming, the prices are reasonable, the food is wonderful, and if you can finish everything they serve you, you’re eating way too much! Frankly it’s surprising that a place this good is in this location. There isn’t a lot of competition in town, and unless you want to drive to Wrightwood or further, this is it. Some businesses take advantage of these situations and let their service and quality slide while raising their prices.(I’m talking to YOU Ace Hardware!) The Skillet Café, on the other hand, still respects their customers and the community. So, if the rest of California falls in the ocean, there’s a zombie apocalypse, or you otherwise find yourself in Phelan for some ungodly reason, by all means stop by here, and you won’t be disappointed. Highly Recommend!

The gal was really nice but service was slow. The oj from here tastes funny. Portions are decent but my food wasn’t hot, it just felt warm which was a little disappointing.

I love skillet, I have been going here since I was a baby. Really has small town feel. Their biscuits and gravy are my favorite out of any place I’ve been in the whole country.

The reviews were right on. Angus burger and onion rings were very good. Great service and atmosphere. Highly recommend especially for those who enjoy breakfast all day.

Had breakfast at the Skillet. The place was cute, the food was good, and the service was great. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because it’s just a little too loud and crowded for our taste, but overall a nice place to have a meal if you don’t feel like driving.

We really enjoy this place for breakfast. The décor is cute, and the waitresses are all very friendly. We’ve tried everything from pancakes to skillets to basic eggs and bacon plates, and have never been disappointed. They are located past the center of town, so sometimes we forget about them, but it’s always an enjoyable experience when we go!

I love this place! This is my go to for breakfast every time I’m up in the high desert(which is nearly every weekend). The service is outstanding, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is cozy. Without a doubt this is the best high desert ‘ma-and-pa’ diner there is!

My wife brought me here with a promise of a juicy handmade burger and it was delivered. The imperfect shape was a charming indication that the burger was shaped just for me and juicy as promised. The only thing I would change is to have it better seasoned, some salt and it would have been amazing. We also ordered a French dip and beer battered onion rings, both homemade and of a generous portion. Again though salt was lacking. I’ll be back.

I had been a regular at the Skillet Café, originally since the early 90’s. Back then it was THEPLACE to eat breakfast… and even had awesome lunch specials that were over the top for your money. Around 2003, I had a string of bad experiences here(moldy bread on my sandwich, etc) and stopped going. Finally tried the out again yesterday for breakfast with my husband. Same welcoming small town café type décor, same nice people(essentially) very cheerful and friendly atmosphere. Decent prices — the breakfast specials ran about $ 6.00-$ 11. My husband ordered one of the specials, tri tip, eggs and country fries. I had a specialty omelet, substituted cottage cheese for potatoes, and added avocado. Overall the meal was good. Coffee was hot, waitress was on the ball but not overly intrusive. However, I was used to the old Skillet where no one left hungry. I believe they have gotten pretty skimpy on the side dishes. Nothing was bad, but I left just feeling nonplussed. I;d rather make breakfast at home(and I LOVE eating out) Is it that expensive to really give you a heaping amount of fried potatoes, or a generous serving of cottage cheese? Breakfast on the big oval plate just seemed so barren and sparse. My dish of cottage cheese was maybe a ¼ cup? Maybe. My omelet was OK, nothing to write home about. Same with my husbands meal. His tritip was good — not outstanding, and there just wasnt enough potatoes to fill him up.(hes not a big man or a big eater, he’s about 145 pounds) We both ate everything, including his toast, to be full. SO it wasn’t that the meal was bad, it was just sparse for the price. Our total bill before tip was just under $ 22. Yeah, $ 22. to leave slightly hungry. I don’t think I will be back anytime soon. I have a more enjoyable meal at Denny’s in Hesperia — for far less money. If you want small town friendliness and atmosphere, this is the place, but do not expect a heaping country home-style filling meal or to be wowed by the awesome food.
