Love this place! I moved down to Manayunk from upstate NY, so got big into wine thanks to the Finger Lakes wine region. I’m enjoying the drier wines of PA, think all those super sweet ones did a number on my stomach. This place is great, the Larry is wonderfully knowledgeable, and always a pleasure to talk to and hang out with. I may or may not buy too much wine from him frequently. It’s definitely pricier than I was used to with NY wines — about $ 17-$ 20 per bottle, but the quality is great. I’ve tried just about all of the whites and a few of the dessert wines as well. My favorites are the Viognier and the Vidal Blanc. It’s really nice to have a wine store right in Manayunk so you can take advantage of the BYOB culture. The changing art displays are always nice, and they just added some various wine-related goods as well.

I love having Crossing Vineyard so close to my apartment. I stopped in once on the way to dinner with friends and we did one of their cheap tasting deals. Honestly, I was expecting crappy tasting reds and super sweet whites, but I was wrong! The wine tastes delightful and they all have a very distinct flavor — there was something for everyone in my group and we left purchasing bottles, which was not the plan. I am in love with their one white and my partner loves the chocolate red. Totally unique. If I’m going to spend more than $ 10 on wine, I go here. Super friendly staff, too!

I attended last night’s Ladies event which was $ 35pp for a wine tasting and a tarot card reading. This was a rip off. The tarot card reading was 8 minutes long. The wine tasting was not structured nor did you learn anything. It was basically a bar where you came up at your leisure for your first, second and third pours. They informed us that it equals one glass of wine. So, I paid $ 35 for one glass of wine and an 8 minute tarot card reading. I’m sorry, they also had desserts. The desserts consisted of two dinner sized plates of cookies, dry brownie bites, & mini red velveet cupcakes for everyone to share. The grounds are absolutely stunning. However, judging by how much they charged for last night, I can only imagine how much they over charge for weddings and events.

We came in on a weekend for a tasting and had a great time. It’s a small store with a few tables and a counter for the tasting. The employee who was working that day was very knowledgeable about the wines we were tasting, including the awards some of them had won which was pretty cool. The tasting was very cheap, but allowed us to try almost everything they had in the store. I liked most of the wines, even there was one or two that were too sweet for my tastebuds. What I didn’t like was that since we were the only customers in the store, we had the employee’s full attention and I felt a little awkward with him staring at us as we tried each wine. I enjoy wine, but am not really knowledgeable about it so I felt awkward after each sip when the only input I had was«it’s good» or «it’s not good.» We ended up buying a few bottles which were decently priced, I don’t think any were over $ 25, and went on our way. I don’t know if we’ll be back to the store in Manayunk, but we’ll definitely be heading out to the vineyard sometime soon.

This place is the store front for the vineyard and offers most of the wines available at the vineyard. The server/salesman was very easy going and honest about his favorites and made great recommendations for all of our different pallets. The wines were reasonably price(~$ 15 a bottle) and the tasting was inexpensive as well($ 5 for 8 wines, if I’m remembering correctly). The next stop is the actual vineyard. :)

To me, it just seems like they are in it for the tourists. The service is fair, and the wine is okay. You taste in a ware-house style room at a long u-shaped counter with the stainless tanks right behind you. This COULD be a nice experience, but it could also feel large, cold, and impersonal. When we were there, there was live music, which again– could be a nice experience, but was very loud and our host had to practically shout about the wine we were tasting. Bought 1 bottle of over-priced wine(for the region). The grounds were nice, but it was cold when we were there, so we did not walk around.

As one who dabbles in oenology with the characteristic snobbery, I was blown away by Crossing Vineyards Winery. The modest Main Street location boasts some exceptional vinos. I did a tasting and was in absolute bliss. The owner was extremely knowledgeable and described each bouquet in depth. As one who is sensitive to some reds, I was thrilled to hear that Crossing Vineyards does not use any nitrates in their wines and thus they do not impart skull-splitting headaches like other mainstream brands. The whites were totally divine, a medley of dry and sweet all bursting with summer fruits. The Viognier is one of the most luscious white wines I have ever had, I cannot recommend it enough. The reds are extremely unique and all very full-bodied. They ranged from spicy and smooth, like the Cabernet Franc, to the chocolaty and decadent, like the Chocolate Cherry Truffle. The latter is truly the sweet tooth’s dream come true. The bottles are all moderately priced, about $ 12-$ 17. Cheese and chocolate pairings are also available by appointment. If you are nearby, do pay this new spot a visit. If you keep an open mind, you will not be disappointed!
