I usually have a good experience when I come here, but the other day I purchased some scallops and was extremely disappointed. They obviously weren’t «dry» scallops and had a strong metallic taste. Very disappointing and a waste of $$. The service here is great though. I always enjoy talking with the workers

Best fish market in Philly. They have a great selection here, and it’s been my experience that their stock appears more fresh than I can get in either Chinatown or at the RTM. I would say prices are on par with Chinatown too. When I want Bronzino, Giant Porgies or Pompano, this is my go to spot. The only downside is parking is a hassle in Italian Market area. Best day to go seems to be on a Tuesday.

Worst experience ever. 3 people in the store working. Stood there waiting to get help for 5 minutes all I got was 3 people who looked at me and keep on going about there business like I wasn’t there when I made my presence know I was told to wait a minute, I told them to continue doing what you was doing and left. Will never go back there again

It’s a great place to get fish and other seafood. Good selection, super fresh and decent prices. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable. My only wish is that they accepted credit cards, but it’s not a big deal — still a great store! I usually stop by whenever I’m in the Italian Market.

If I’m writing a review, it either means I’m scandalized or wow’ed and this is the latter scenario. I recently switched to a Paleo diet which involves consuming fish. Having been born and bred way inland, apart from the occasional fried calamari on the beach vacation I have never had to eat fish in my life and the smell has always made me gag. After looking up Unilocal I decided to head to Italian Market to check out Darigo’s. The market itself is quite dirty and looks like Mexico or India but I was really amazed with the quality of the fish. They were all really fresh and there was not a HINT of the fishy odor despite there being hundreds of fish. The girl in the store was incredibly helpful and sweet. I just cooked my first fish(It’s a catfish fillet) and it didn’t really smell that much and I’m very happy. They clean the fish for you and pad it up with ice so it stays fresh while you journey home in Philly traffic. The girl even offered to cut my calamari into rings for me which I thought was very nice of her. They don’t take card but they have an ATM in the store. I am not familiar with fish prices but I bought 2 fillets of catfish, 3 of whiting and 2 cleaned calamari and only paid $ 15. Overall, a hoot and a half!

Whenever I am in Center City, I head over to the Italian Market and get my fish from Darigo’s. They have the best quality in Philly at the most reasonable price. They will clean, behead and filet the fish. Great selection, tremendous variety. I always get a whole Salmon, vacuum seal it and it comes out like the day I bought it. Folks that own the store and the folks cleaning the fish are super friendly and very willing to make suggestions.

Best place to buy fish in the Italian Market. Cash only, unless if you have food stamps. Try the the cod @ 5.99lb.

Holy cow, this fish market is amazing. The owner couples are fast and professional. I shop here every week when I was in Philly. The price is great. I love their salmon, tuna, shrimp and squid. There are tons of choices, from giant octopus, shark to whole fishes. Always recommend the shop to my friends, who take seafood seriously!

I live just down the street on 9th. Darigo’s is the only place in the Market where I would buy fish and seafood; I’m there once a week. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and that’s a rare thing these days.

The fish here seems very fresh and they definitely offer a variety! You can probably get any fish you are looking for as well as other seafoods(scallops, mussels, squid, clams, etc.). The price is very decent, esp compared to Superfresh and Whole Foods a few blocks away. I also love how nice and knowledgable the staff here is. If they don’t have the fish you want already cut in fillets or steaks, you can just pick out what you want and they’ll take a whole fish and do the cleaning for you in the back(skinning, removing head/tail, etc). I’m getting all my fish supply from here from now on!

Looking to make muscles for dinner, I ventured out to the Italian Market to get my supplies. Strolling up and down South 9th Street, I was dissatisfied with the fishmongers, and there selection. Thankfully, I walked past Darigo’s. Immediately, I noticed the level of care they took in food preservation and sanitation. Where many places just laid fish in ice, Darigo’s carefully arranged the fish between plastic wrap, which they packed ice on. The monger was very friendly, and attentive as he helped me selected good scallops, muscles, flounder, and squid. They offered to fillet fresh fish for me, but I was happy with the selection in sight. Great place for seafood. Knowledgeable staff, and fantastic selection.
