I recently ventured into this fine establishment for a friend’s birthday party. It was a Sunday evening and we had a big group of us, so we called ahead for reservations to accommodate our large party! I was totally blown away by how accommodating they were for not only our large group of people, but also the long list of requests we had. We explained that some of the people in our party were not going to be ordering food and that we were going to be bringing in a birthday cake and ice cream to boot! All the while, they expressed that it was not going to be an issue at all. Kudos to that! As soon as we arrived, our table was ready for us and we were able sit down right away. The staff was extremely friendly and patient with us especially with staggering orders as people trickled throughout the night. The food was extremely delicious! I ordered the special of the chorizo tacos and they were so fresh and flavorful! And the shoestring fries with the aoili ketchup were a wonderful harmony of flavors. Finally, their selection of draft beers was quite extensive. Even if you were not particularly hungry, I would recommend this place to hang out with friends for a drink or two!

Eat the tacos and the empanadas! A large beer selection, a lot of interesting beers, I recommend tasking the beers before purchasing a glass or you may be unhappy because they are unique. The fire place is nice, it does make the restaurant cozy and it does smell lovely.

The food here is pretty average for both brunch and dinner in terms of options and quality; everything is standard, almost boring. But, on the upside, this is a great beer bar! There are always tons of fantastic craft beers on draft, and the bartenders are friendly so I prefer sitting at the bar. It’s pretty good atmosphere for a large party; I’ve come with 6 – 8 people with no problems for brunch. Plus: they have Lavazza Coffee, a favorite alternative to La Colombe.

I live a block from Devil’s Den and go every now and then to treat myself. I always always always get the mussels. I have had every flavor of them and they’re all magnificent. I’ve gotten a few other things from the menu, but the portions are relatively small for the price so the mussels are the most bang for your buck in my opinion. However, the mac and cheese is SO good. It has cheese-itz sprinkled on top(genius!). I’m not a huge beer drinker but they have a huge craft beer selection. There is a lot of indoor seating and outdoor seating in the summer time. It can get pretty loud inside, and if it’s crowded it can feel cramped.

I went to the Den twice in three days. First a group of seven and then just a two top. My big group was a Saturday night with no reservation. Surprisingly we were only waiting at the bar for 15mins before seating. Service overall was great. If you like beer like I do.(I like it alot) then you should be pleased with the Devil’s selection. It’s vast. The cocktail and beer menu has a short but informative description. Everything from ales to lagers.

Did dinner here a couple of weeks ago with a friend, and I have to say, I enjoyed the beer(a Sambic) as much as the mussels. I have genuinely missed the seafood and fries combo I so enjoyed at the Black Sea for a year, and this was the closest I’ve found in my two years in this city. I had the mussels in cider and cream and fries, and my friend had a wedge salad and the soup de jour(turkey vegetable I think). I can’t speak for the latter, but my friend enjoyed his food. My food, on the other hand, mmhmm. The broth was so good I considered drinking it(didn’t want to embarrass my friend), and I probably could have had I not been stuffed to the gills. The only comment I have is that the service was a bit on the slow side(however, our server was super friendly).

Came here for Sunday brunch. We had our pup with us so we sat outside. Our server was excellent and very attentive. Beer selection is great I chose the free will kriek lambic it’s a wild ale with cherries. Our food came out quickly. I got the lamb gyro and my boyfriend had a special which was filet eggs benedict. Neither of us had any complaints about the food.

Devil’s Den is one of those places that I wish was down the block from me. Consistently stellar lineups, tap takeovers and good food, to boot. I’ve been here in the last few months for Free Will, Almanac and their Sour Fest, so it’s safe to say that Devil’s Den helped me as I [very, very, VERY slowly] fell in love with sours. Now, I’ll always pick a sour over an IPA! As for food, don’t miss their dog wraps if you’re into hot dogs. They are fantastic.

I went on a Sunday for outside brunch. I did a beer flight and the frisee salad with bacon lardon and poached egg. I got my dog a grilled chicken breast. The service outside was phenomenal. I’m not sure how the other reviewers come to their conclusion, but I have a strong feeling it’s the lady servers that are not as attentive. All the male servers have been great. Came back on a Friday HH and sat at the bar. Both the female and male bartender were great. I had the half off oysters plus 2 pints of some yummy sour ale. Came back again for Friday HH with a girlfriend, sat outside and again had great service. Sour Ale Flight plus some apps(that I agree are weirdly placed on the menu— there is no true theme to the food) that were decently tasty. The pork bun seemed skimpy on the meat– but the flavor was good. And the dumplings were good, not great. At the end of our meal I asked my server to see if he can scrounge for a cigarette for me… and he delivered. What service :) I

I just went here last night for an early Birthday dinner with some friends. I was able to make a reservation for the night before for a group of ten. Overall, everyone loved it here! The service was decent. Weirdly, they don’t have ice or cold water? I don’t know. But I got the Special Mussels of the night. It had chorizo, summer corn, jersey tomatoes, and petite shrimp in it. So delicious! They give you bread so you can dip it into the mussels broth and it either comes with fries or a side salad. I got their fries and I love the dipping sauce it comes with. The boyfriend usually get the diablo mussels over pasta. Apparently they don’t do the mussels over pasta anymore but he requested it and they gladly made it with no upcharge! We also tried the Korean BBQ wings my friend ordered. We loved it but she was not use to the taste so she didn’t like them. Some friends got the Cheeseteak Empanadas, Nachos, Pork Tacos, Cobb Salad, Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese, and more and they all loved their food! Everyone tried a few beers from their draft/bottles list. They have a very decent selection and a lot to pick from. They usually have a few flights you can try too. The boyfriend got a sour beer flight and he didn’t love it, but he drank it all. I got the summer mojitio and it was delicious! My friends surprised me with a piece of their dessert and a candle for my birthday, so sweet of them! It was a chocolate peanut butter pie. It was soo gooood!!! but a little too rich for me. And i didn’t like that they had whole peanuts it but it was really good. I just could not eat a whole piece by myself so the whole table shared it. i just love it here!!! and i’m so glad my friends did too!!!

The staff is nice, the drinks/beer are fine but the new menu blows. The menu and food was just ok before but now it’s really terrible. It doesn’t know if it wants to be a pub or an Asian-fusion restaurant now, and honestly, none of the stuff sounds appetizing. The grilled cheese and cheesesteak empanadas were awful. Also, they seemed to have done away with their late night tater tots with cheese sauce which was probably the best tasting food item they had but never advertised or put on the menu. I really hope things get better for this neighborhood bar.

Been meaning to give this place a try. I like how they have both indoor and outdoor seating. They have quite a selection of beers, but not enough variety when it comes to wines and cocktails. The atmosphere is nice. The music selection not so much lol Staff is pretty attentive and always checking on you to make sure you’re ok. I appreciate that the most when it comes to any establishment in the city. Didnt try any food here. maybe next time!

Great place that I think people forget about. Super cute, has a fireplace so makes it a cute, casual date place. Food is very good. I’ve been here twice and both times, service and food was great. The have a great happy hour special where all beers are half off and some apps too. The popcorn is bangin and their pretzel bites(more like pretzel biscuits) are damn good!

Beer selection is phenomenal. I’m not sure there are too many other places in the city that come close. Their tap specials during PCBW were awesome and their normal rotations can keep you coming back weekly. Cocktails also look quite delicious. Food is also amazing. Brunch is highly recommended. Duck fat fries will stick to your ribs for a day or two but that’s just long enough for you to decide to return. The macncheese is also another must have with so much cheese at the bottom you may ask for a straw.

This place might be my new favorite that’s relatively in the area I like to eat, especially cause parking’s not bad around there. It kind of reminds me of my ever-favorite St. Stephen’s Green, what with the large selection of big and small plates of bar food, but it’s a little less pubbish on the inside and a little more spacious and inviting. The selection of food is great– tons of delicious-sounding appetizers and a wide variety of sandwiches and mussels. For the app, we opted for the duck confit gravy cheese fries which were heavenly and melt-in-your-mouth with a nice helping of crunchy, fresh scallions on top. I would honestly get a huge plate of just that for my entrée if I could. As for the entrees, they were equally as tasty. We got the fish tacos and BBQ pulled pork sandwich(both on special that night) and the Diablo mussels. All were great, though be forewarned: the Diablo mussels are HOT. You’re probably saying, «Well, duh, doesn’t the name imply that they’ll be hot?» I should’ve figured that as well, considering the description said they were in a garlic-chile sauce, but I was still surprised. They were absolutely delicious, flavorful and in a huge portion, simmering in a spicy sauce with chunks of bacon and crunchy bread to soak it all up with, and a side of those addicting Belgian-style pomme frites and aioli dipping sauce. I would totally order the Diablo again, but maybe next time I’ll be prepared and have a glass of milk and a box of tissues on hand. Or maybe I should avoid spice altogether and order the more basic options like lemon and garlic and wine. As for the beer list, it’s really expansive and similar to those you find at most other Belgian places in the city(Monk’s, Belgian Café, etc.). It can become pretty overwhelming trying to decide what beer to pick and it’s helpful when the server knows what you’re looking for and can make suggestions based on your taste and preference. This is why I dropped it down a star. I like a beer called Ephemere by the Canadian brand Unibrou and I couldn’t find it on the list, so I asked for something similar and he couldn’t tell me even one. It WAS a slow Sunday night and I’m sure it’s hard to memorize all that beer, but I still wish he would’ve at least tried and asked the bartender if they had something within that same scope of beer. He didn’t even make the effort so I ended up picking one at random. It’s not enough to ruin my experience, though, so I’ll definitely be back to try another beer and another helping of mussels.

This review may be a bit biased since I live around the corner, but I think Devil’s Den is really solid. Their beer list always has at least a few drafts I’ve never tried, and their food is quite good. The duck fries are of course fabulous. The rest of the menu is also worth trying but honestly, not noteworthy. Their mussels are large and meaty and prepared well, but the portion is a bit small for the price. Their salads are actually pretty damn good for a pub and really reasonably priced – $ 8 for a big wedge salad! Oh, did I mention they have a fireplace? It’s lovely. A really nice touch for such a cozy neighborhood pub.

The average rating for Devil’s Den should be higher! I think this place merits 4 – 4.5 stars. Atmosphere: Love it. Fireplace for wintertime coziness, tables to sit outside with your dog and people watch in the summer. The space is large, and even during busy times, there always seems to be an open table, so I’ve never waited for a table(yesss!) Unpretentious vibe. Good service. Beer: One of the best beer lists in the city, in my opinion. I mean, it’s more of a tome than a list when you include their enormous bottle selection. The descriptions of each beer are clear and inviting. Half price happy hour too. cannot complain. Food: vegan and vegetarian options still need some work. I also miss the gigantic pickle plate they used to have maybe 1.5−2 years ago that was like 9 bucks and more than enough for 2 people. They have a pickle plate special now, but it’s really small and doesn’t have as many different types of veggies as the original, if I remember correctly. If there were a few more vegan options, this place would be 5 stars.

Came here for brunch with a friend, because it was a Sunday and the only non-BYOB in my neighborhood I could find open at 10:30(we are early risers!). Mimosas here are only $ 3 and you can get a beermosa(Ommegang Witte + OJ) for $ 4.50. My friend got the regular mimosa and was happy, I got the beermosa and was extremely pleased – you could definitely taste the characteristics of the ommegang, which blends well with any kind of citrus. To eat, I had the avocado benedict, which was an extremely indulgent and unconventional benedict. It was a single set up, with a poached egg, especially creamy hollandaise, breaded and fried avocado, atop a slice of brioche. It came with a side of home fries. I added some sriracha and was in heaven. It was an absolutely delicious breakfast. My friend ordered the burrito, which was insanely huge, and got through about ¼ of it. She was happy with her breakfast, but not as wowed as I. Service was great. Our server was friendly and our table was bussed promptly after we were done. I will definitely be back for brunch for the cheap mimosas and early opening time.

I was pleasantly surprised at how good the bean burger was, but if you’re looking for something vegetarian you should let them know because the bun was waaay too tasty to not have been toasted on the same grill as meat. The salad that came with them was colorful and fresh. The popular duck fries were small, crispy and topped with gooey duck and gravy. The portion was perfect for two people to share, but requires a fork to avoid goo soaked fingers. I thought they were just ok, typical bar food, but my boyfriend thought that they were great. On a separate visit for brunch I had a benedict that I found to be bland. On both visits staff took a long time to give us a bill, but were polite. In the winter the place smells heavily of it’s fireplace to the point where I left smelling like the fireplace.

A Devil’s Den in south Philly? Thought this was Flyers territory. This is a local bar in South Philly. My friend brought me here for some beverages and a tapas feast. We drank Death in the Afternoon. It was absinthe and champagne. Not American absinthe either Whoa! We quickly realized we were elderly and couldn’t have more than one. Moving on… We had tapas. Pot stickers, hummus and oysters. All were good. Rumor has it duck fries are all the rage here. I would return. Service is fast and friendly. I like sitting outside because you can smoke.
