Great little coffee shop hidden in Philadelphia. The iced coffee is actually cold brew and is made perfectly. Comfortable atmosphere to sit and relax.

Every time I walk in I am greeted with a super pretentious judgmental atmosphere(from the patrons). I’ve tried numerous times and I unfortunately always get the same vibes. Though the light at the end of the tunnel was the barista. He was there to save me with a friendly smile, relaxed demeanor and made me finally feel completely welcome. I put on my big girl pants, got myself some cucumber water and had an amazing latte. I don’t think it helps that I’m more of the tattooed mom, west philly yoga, hippie, non-judgmental type. I would give this super gem of a coffee shop five stars for the great staff, tasty coffee and lovely water… alas…the patron atmosphere leaves something to be desired. I’m sure there are good people in there, but just not my overall impression. I think I’m in the wrong part of the city.

Now my favorite coffee shop in Philadelphia, Elixr is a rare gem. The beautiful interiors with floral murals and a curtain of flowers above, rustic/wood tables(lots of small/bigger ones), and the slightly separated couch portion of the shop make this joint perfect for whatever you’re looking for: an intimate conversation, meetings with groups or just for independent work. Also, added bonus, the music /baristas aren’t so loud that you can’t work here without headphones /to focus, which I love(bye starbucks). We spent an hour just enjoying our coffee and the interior of this place and did not tire of complimenting it. Can’t wait to be back! The cold brew I got was also great — but it’s not the coffee I’d keep coming back for :) Tip: It’s a little hard to find — on a small side street of walnut. Don’t input into google maps because it directs you to the previous elixr location(which is now closed). The 25 minutes it took us to locate Elixr were absolutely worth it though!

I’m a Seattle guy and coffee snob so I’m usually pretty hard on reviews. This place has it all… strong, tasty coffee and great vibe. Lots of space. A bit hard to find, but well worth it. Hidden gem!

Wow! I am blown away by Elixr! I know I’m a coffee snob but hey is Seattle life pumping through my caffeinated veins! I can’t help but get goosebumps for a perfect Cortado or latte. But the true test of an incredible coffee is drinking it black. Elixr is that place! This is the place where incredible coffee is born! I was on my way to the Mütter Museum and I needed a pick me up. This place is hidden down an alley with only a graffitied face lighting your way. As soon as you walk in it’s gorgeous! I wanted to put a ring on it! The wall paper by the bathroom is a stunning new floral. There’s a colorful mural and a curtain of flowers hanging above. You walk some steps to the counter. There were five pour over options. I went for Faustino Reyes from Colombia with notes of strawberry, toffee and honeysuckle! Something about«Faust» caught my eye! The barista was great about getting my name and keeping me posted on my luxury coffee. The pour overs average at $ 4.50. And they are completely worth the splurge. The coffee needed nothing and tasted incredible. Twin Peaks character Agent Cooper would have been proud! There are also treats like donuts and croissants. I was a nerdy traveler that needed to charge her life support… I mean phone. The horse shoe seating in the lower level has outlets lining beneath the seats. So smart! Elixr is smart, tasty and beautiful! I almost didn’t want to leave. Who knew such a gorgeous treasure hid in the mist of downtown Philly. I am easily putting this in my Philly rotation! And I gotta get me some beans next time! And squeeze in some insta photos with my beauty! Til’ we meet again Elixr! Xooxo

The atmosphere is so hip and relaxing here despite the long lines(which move quickly). The staff are always great. Espresso drinks taste lovely– HOWEVER– I must admit I am not a fan of their regular iced coffee. It’s just so acidic and sour! One of my favorite coffee shops in the city otherwise, though.

2nd best espresso I’ve had on the east coast — 1st place goes to Bohemian in Melrose Mass. Coming from Seattle and loving small local roasters(of which we have many amazing roasters), that’s a great compliment. The failure here was in the customer service. It was short and slightly dismissive. If you keep eye contact and don’t interrupt your customers when they’re giving you a pretty concise order, you’ll have happier *return* customers. Tomorrow, I’ll try somewhere else to see how their coffee is. It’s like that, unfortunately.

Probably tied for my favorite coffee shop in Philadelphia(along with Bluestone Lane Coffee). Elixr is just stunning. From ambiance and environment/setting, to baristas/service, to baked goods, to coffee — it really creates the perfect guest experience, no matter the occasion. I’ve come here to enjoy coffee + a baked good with a friend for a catch-up session, but have also frequented alone. Have loved both experiences equally. The coffee tastes amazing — love that you can watch the process, and ask the baristas questions throughout the process(they know so much!). The offerings of baked goods and pastries also is AMAZING. I’ve tried a handful of the stuff here and have always been impressed. I also love that it is slightly tucked away. On a small street off of Walnut, I love that you have to walk those extra steps to be entranced by the coffee shop. Mostly, I love the ambiance though. Beautiful local art, wood tables(plus a communal one!!) and warm lighting. Feels homey, rustic, and so very Philly.

Yeah, gonna go with five stars for this shop. Consistently good roasting, small but modern rustic shop in heart of city(in back alley), with great pastries, and terrariums! Dude. Only draw back is the people camping out in those seats for a long time, and the small number of seats there are. But this is more of a grab and go type of shop with friendly staff. Yo, Philly.

You know this is going to be something special when you can smell this beautiful aroma dancing in the air from a block away. Just let it carry you inside where you will feel a sudden surge of excitement come upon you. You might also have an impatient pulse wondering when is it your turn to order, when is it your turn to indulge into that perfect cup. Those are the questions that will be running through your head, or maybe you are in need of some much needed caffeine? Maybe less caffeine in how you would approach it, if you are that anxious. What is an «Elixir? To simply say it’s a magical liquid that can cure illness or extend life. True annnnnd true. ~Cure an illness? Why yes, yes it can, just stop in if you are feeling sluggish or a bit depressed. A cup of this finely roasted, finely brewed cup of goodness will change how you feel. ~Extend life? Your damn right it will, again partake in a cup of this aromatic treasure and you’ll notice a spike in your step! It will make you feel like nothing can stop you, taking over the world is on your mind now. Hence the magical reference! There are plenty of coffee shops in Philly, but this has to be the most unique one out of the bunch. Don’t get me wrong there are some great shops out there also serving up works of art like Elixr. Elixr is simply unique, they definitely stand out as being original with their décor. The décor is well, pretty much awesome along with the baristas making your one of a kind cup. I guess I also have to mention that they also make tea for those who are not into coffee. I on the other hand, I love and need coffee just to keep on going. The coffee roasting gods have granted us with a gift, so don’t question it, or how is it possible that this is that damn good. Accept it ladies and gents, accept this marvelous gift bestowed to us.

Love the vibe of Elixr because of the open concept floorplan. Lots of outlets everywhere, as they basically have embedded strip cords underneath all the bench seating. The coffee is good and reasonably priced. They also have a selection of pastries if you’re looking for something to tide you over, although I think they also have a legitimate menu if you’re looking for something more substantial. Elixr is packed, and for good reason! Plenty of chatter, so make sure to bring your earphones if you’re trying to do work! Tl;dr — warm, open coffeeshop near Rittenhouse. A must.

Excellent quality coffee! I always go for the cappucino and it has always been consistently great. My last visit i went for the latte and it lived up to my expectations. This location is perfect to spend an aftornoon catching up with a friend or browsing through the internet while enjoying a delicious cup of coffee. I must wanr you it is always busy — but if you come early enough you can get a chair by the window — excellent place to people watch!

Cold brew was just fine if a little weak. Service was not the best. It was hot during a busy time, crowded, and difficult to find.

I have probably walked past this coffee shop so many times but never realized it was there. The type of coffee i got was Konga and the flavor was exactly how i expected. very smooth with slight sweet taste! I loved it. I didn’t have time to eat there but i definitely want to explore their menu a little more next time I visit.

Came here with a friend on a Saturday afternoon and was met with a pretty packed coffee shop. I liked the atmosphere and set-up here at Elixr. Big tables, a nice hustle-and-bustle, but I found that I was still able to focus and do some studying. Great service: I ordered an iced tea, but was told(after ordering) they were out of the specific type I ordered. I asked if I could have an iced coffee instead, they said yes but *also* gave me a free drink voucher without me asking. Plugs are scattered around the wall and are mostly taken, but you could probably squeeze some charging time in if you really need it. Elixr is sort of tucked away in the heart of CC, but I would definitely recommend it!

Solid espresso($ 2.25) and cozy, somewhat comfortable seating(that is if you are able to find a seat). The espresso comes with seltzer water, which was pleasant surprise. While I was there, the music was just a tad too noisy/bordering on bar/pub-loud, which made it a challenge to concentrate on work. There is free, open wifi, which makes it a hot spot for laptop-ers(AKA sprawlers). Overall, Elixr is a good option for grabbing a professionally brewed, solid-tasting espresso with a friend or studying, as long as you don’t mind loud music.

I think this is one of my favorite coffee places in the city. It’s located on an alley, which reduces some of the traffic. The set up is really beautiful, and is a cozy atmosphere. I’ve only come here when it’s been crowded so it can be a little hard to find a seat. There is a nice sofa area, and then an area with tables. You will see presumably students, studying, friends catching up, and people stopping in to get coffee. The baristas are all extremely polite and helpful. I’ve never had the food, only the coffee but they have some amazing looking donuts, croissants, and sweets! The coffee is VERY good and very strong. They do have some outdoor seating but the alley it’s located in is pretty grimy so I wouldn’t suggest that. The inside is too lovely!

Excellent coffee. One of the best espressos I’ve had. I love how they give you a glass of seltzer with your espresso, no questions asked. The layout is large, however — – it’s way too busy! This is where all the hipsters congregate, so that can be a bit annoying. Some of the employees are as annoying as fuck in a snob hipster way, but others are nice. If any of you are reading this, guess what? it’s a fucking coffee shop, so be warm and kind, we owe each other this. We’re not ordering bridges here, we’re getting a cup. Maybe he had a bad day, but whatever, it left a negative taste in my mouth. I’d go again.

Visiting from the NYC area, stumbling upon this coffee joint was a great find! By far one of the best places I’ve been to for coffee and espresso. The baristas really know what they’re doing and made me a superb latte. Another thing I loved was the ambiance of this place. It’s definitely does have that«hipster» vibe that a few mentioned. Though it was a little tough to find seats, when we did find them, we didn’t want to leave! The wooden tables and dim lighting made it a super mellow and relaxing place. Will definitely stop by again when in the area.

Doesn’t matter what you order on the menu, from the bakery items(donuts, donuts, donuts) to the OHSOTASTY espresso, you’ll never be disappointed. They have a variety of seating arrangements allowing you to just sit and chat with a friend or study at the communal table. Elixir does get packed quickly so sometimes it might be hard to get a seat, but most of the time people don’t mind sharing.

Awesome hideaway in a forest of mediocre café-like coffee options. Not a lot of tea or baked good choices but well worth it for the casual comfort and I’m sure drip coffee lovers will enjoy this place as the buyers are in direct relations with the growers. Only thing I really didn’t like and kept me from going higher on the review is the homeless that«hang out» inside and get free coffee and take up space. There are better services for that NOT in a café…

This is your go-to ultra-hipster impossibly trendy sip-n-stay-all-day-studying four dollar shot of espresso reclaimed wood industrial chic coffee joint. The food is pretty good too. They really seem to care about the coffee, the food, the décor, the vibe. It all helps. If you can find a seat, take it, stay a while, soak it all in.

Legit coffee and espresso. Baristas know how to pull espresso well and made me a solid cappuccino. This place is down a small alley, so not easy to spot, but definitely worth it.

Great coffee place off Walnut. Big tables for doing work, and lots of outlets, however, if this is your plan, get there before 9:30 am or you’ll probably be out of luck. I also had the hummus sandwich which was delicious. Great ambiance. One thing though — the bathroom door(which is right at the front, by the store front door) doesn’t close all the way, it is designed so that there is a huge gap between the door and the wall, even when ‘closed’. Maybe not the best idea at a coffee shop if you know what I mean?

Ducked in here on a rainy day this past weekend for a hot coffee and a little reading. It is easy to miss if you don’t know where it is, as it doesn’t have a large sign or awning and is in a little alleyway. Once inside, though, it is surprisingly large and spacious with lots of seating and lots of chargers /outlets. An excellent gathering place for Macbook-wielding 20-something hipsters. The silver haired lady who took my order was friendly and my soy latte came out quickly. I am always sad that soy simply can’t hold a latte design the way real milk can. My latte was good, and not overpriced. If I lived nearby I could definitely see myself coming here to get work done or socialize over hand-poured coffee or a latte.

The coffee here is superb. I haven’t heard of many roasters from the east, I’m usually a blue bottle, stumptown, verve, and other west coast roasters kinda guy. But this definitely placed elixir on the map for me. Thanks for the simple yet delicious cup. Made my morning. Also the ambience of the place certainly made this more enjoyable too. :)

The world can be divided into two: Tea culture, and coffee culture. I’m definitely a coffee drinker. Coffee culture can be divided into two: Starbucks and Elixr. I’m definitely an Elixr drinker. As most people, I just cannot start my morning, any morning, without coffee. I like caffeinated coffee, and I don’t like mornings, but I really, really like caffeinated mornings – especially when a hand-poured coffee is involved. At other cafés, the barista may have the audacity to ask… regular to decaf!!! And I’m like… Decaf? who drinks decaf? it’s like when you drink unalcoholic beer with the promise of a buzz in the air! It aint happening. I don’t think I even saw the decaf option at Elixr’s limited menu. The friendly barista poured his coffee knowledge at me, as I was«Elixr-Virgin» and gave me his recommendations. I wanted to try some hand-poured coffee. They have beans from Colombia, Ethiopia, Costa Rica, and Kenya. I got«El Roble«an artisanal, hand-roasted beans from Costa Rica. I was not disappointed. This intimate low key coffee roaster has one of the most satisfying and simple pleasures in life, coffee. I’m sure I’ll keep coming back for the comfy atmosphere and the great coffee. It is not your average cup of joe. Five Unilocal and a coffee, please!
