This place has a great beer list, especially if you like belgium beer and a lot are included in happy hour! I had the three cheese grilled cheese and felt wonderfully fat but it didn’t even matter because it was so good. We also got the burgers, fries and mussels. I was a fan of the burger and fries but I’ve had better mussels at monks. Overall, a great place for happy hour or to stop in for a beer or two with friends!

My cousins and I came here last Sunday night to eat and drink. I have been here a few times. Before but I mostly just come to have a beer. This time I am not sure I will be back. Our burgers were great but the server was just plain nasty to us. From the moment we came upstairs and asked was that bar open he had an attitude. He rushed us to order, borderline unwilling to give us samples and inpatient despite their long list of beers. When you have as many beers as they do it generally takes a long time to decide. He was very impatient and pushy with us to make a decision. Normally I would have got up and left but it was cold and rainy.

A friend and I often visit this place to whittle down our list of Belgian varieties and trade cinema-talk with the bartender. It is a local city bar, through and through. Warning: Don’t sit so close to the kitchen because you will smell buffalo wings on your jacket for the rest of the week.

I took my husband and twelve of our friends here for his birthday dinner. We were seated in our own room upstairs without delay. Pays to make those reservations. Our server was on point, and made sure everyone had a drink from the massive beer menu whenever it seemed they needed one. The food was amazing and not one person let a morsel go to waste. This was a great choice for a group meal as there was something for everyone. Very happy we came. Loved the giant beer menu, loved the food, and loved the décor and overall vibe of the place. Super unique and fun!

Had dinner here last Friday eve. Arrived still in time for Happy Hour which is a great deal for drinks. I ordered the Mussels Provençal — delicious! The sauce was great, the mussels were large and plumb and the 1lb was sufficient. Disappointing though is that they don’t serve the mussels with a tasty, crusty baguette or artisanal bread. Supermarket white bread is pretty uninteresting as an accompaniment to the mussels — so points off for that. Service is pretty disappointing as well. Really a pity when food and drink is reasonably good and the service just turns you off to a place. Unfortunately there are an increasing number of places throughout the area suffering from the same malady — servers who think it’s more compelling to chat among themselves or consume their time texting than to provide good customer service to their patrons. Bout time restaurant management took it up to enforce some customer service rules.

What was wrong with the upstairs bar on NYE? Five empty seats at the bar should’ve been a clue. We took two of them, the bartender asked us to wait while he cleaned the space, and then proceeded to talk to a guy at the end of the bar for almost ten minutes. I can overlook a bad attitude by bad servers, but NYE isn’t the night to waste time on someone who has no interest in doing his job. It felt good to pick my money up off the bar and leave. We won’t be back, at least not upstairs.

The beer list is solid and the tap selection is nice too. The actual bar was so DIRTY though. I’m not a prima donna; this pace was sticky and gross. The bathroom was disgusting too. Stayed for one beer and left… Too bad.

If you are looking for belgian beer in old city, this is the place. Owned by Mike Naessens(also owns by Bierstube and former fave Beneluxx) it boasts an impressive set of Belgian beer on draft and in bottles including one of my favorites in the form of house brew«Busty Blonde.» There are two floors each with a different bar(though the top isn’t always open) and interestingly each bar may have different beers on tap. The set up is pretty narrow, so all it can take is 1 or 2 larger groups for it to feel pretty packed. Nonetheless, it is one of the more relaxed bars in old city, so assuming you can get seats, its a great place to chill out.

I travel to philly for business a few times a year. I always go to this place. Great food and service. If you enjoy good beers and are alone this is a great place to go. The bartender always makes me feel welcome and I always really enjoy the folks at the bar

Big beer list… lots of places have that. Apathetic service; as someone else mentioned, they all look like they’d rather be doing something else. Tip: when you order steak frites(they pretentiously use the Dutch spelling, for some reason) and the first thing your waiter brings is a heavily-used bottle of ketchup, you are probably not in a truly«Belgian tavern». Steak was cooked OK; «frites» were really more like ‘70s «steak fries» from Western Sizzlin’. There are tons of places in Philly with great beer lists and lots of them have good food. Skip this hipster haven.

I go here before movies at the Ritz or other Old City outings. I love it! Most recently I went on a Sunday night and had some excellent beers. My bartender knew his beers and gave me wonderful recommendations. Will definitely go again.

I have never seen a larger beer selection than at Eulogy. The bar tender was awesome and we never had to wait more than a minute for our drinks. The theme is cool but not overplayed. The coffin tables are a neat to create a great ambiance. I think the prices were fair for a bar. I think we got about six drinks for around twenty something bucks so that seemed pretty fair. I would definitely go back.

As one of several Belgian beer bars in the city, Eulogy offers an extensive list of beers and usually has some reasonably-priced ones during happy hour. Some of my friends aren’t too fond of the food here, but I personally enjoy the Benelux burger. It has a homey, meat-loafy taste to it that I find appealing for some reason. The sauces that come with the fries are also excellent. In terms of the beer bars in Old City, I’d recommend Eulogy. It’s no place for a date, however, and is generally just a place to bring some of your more surly friends for a casual night out on the town. The downside to Eulogy, however, is that since it is located in the heart of Old City, it’s usually so crowded that most of the people downstairs are standing and most of the people upstairs are sweating and almost suffocating on one another’s carbon dioxide. It’s also hard for the bartenders and waiters to really up-keep a bar with so much activity, so there’s a certain ‘grittiness’ about the restaurant. But I like it and am therefore giving it 4 stars. It’s authentic. Again, it’s a great place to go and I go here usually during a time when I won’t be packed in like a sardine.

Eulogy is a two-part, extremely cramped Belgian café and beer bar. For Philly Beer Week, this place had a wild tap list including fresh Hill Farmstead Double Citra, Port Brewing Hightide, Hill Farmstead Everett. It was a miracle. But Eulogy doesn’t always have such a stellar tap list and the good stuff was only pouring downstairs, which is cramped beyond belief. Essentially impossible to order a drink. Upstairs was similarly cramped, but you can sit at tables. The upstairs bar gets the B tap list forcing you to get beer from downstairs and cart it up through pandemonium to your table. Bottle list was uninspiring. On a normal day, Eulogy is a bit too gimmicky and forced on the Belgian theme. I didn’t think the food quite made up for it. However, it is popular, fun, and a local favorite. I would certainly peek my head in to see if anything special is on tap.

This place is great for groups! I have never had a problem walking in and getting a table right away. The food is great, whether you pick a burger or sandwich. Every time I bring friends here, they are always satisfied with their meals. The beer menu is VERY extensive and you are bound to find a new beer to try. Good service too.

Really interesting beer selection. Tried the Insanity, it was pretty good. Their food is also impressive for a random Belgian Tavern. Good fish and chips along the shrimp appetizer is worth having more of. We could have easily tried a few more things on their menu, but the food portions were very reasonable. It’s definately not a fancy place, but it was nice enough. There’s seating and a second bar upstairs too, but the space is kind of small when you get up there. Just plan to squeeze in an out and you’ll be okay.

I’m not sure who ultimately holds the most extensive beer list in Philly, but I am confident that this place is among the top contenders. You get a giant book for a menu, filled with top varieties of beers from all over the globe. Each sip might take you to a different place. Since this is mainly a bar, I think you could get a fulfilling experience focusing solely on the drinks, but if you’re hungry, your might even pair your beverage with some excellent food. My favorite dishes are the Hanger Steak sandwich and the Beneluxx Salad. Every bite of the hanger steak sandwich convinced me that it comes directly from Heaven. The French style bread is perfectly toasted to a crisp and is topped with the most tender pieces of steak, roasted wild mushroom, caramelized onions, and truffle Bordelaise sauce. It’s simply delicious and tastes amazingly with a sip of beer. The salad was very delicious and light, comprising of spring mix lightly tossed in a balsamic truffle vinaigrette, topped with roasted beets, caramelized fennel, and goat cheese. Many dishes come with a fresh side of fries. For me, it’s very important for fries to be crispy and delicious, and this place nails it. They have 6 varieties of mussels, which I haven’t tried, but they all sound equally delicious. While it’s not huge place, we didn’t have too much trouble finding room for 5 on a Saturday night, even without a reservation. The pricing is reasonable for the quality. This spot’s a hit for sure.

Star #1 is for the mussels. This is THE spot for mussels in Old City, maybe in all of Philly(well, if it weren’t for Monks). We tried the Dijon variety, and couldn’t believe how large and sweet the meat was and how incredible the sauce was. We couldn’t get enough bread to sop it up. Star #2 is for the calamari. Or really, the flavorful aioli. Yum. Star #3 is for the atmosphere and location. Cobblestone on 2nd and Chestnut leading to a perfect mix of dim and twinkly lights with music that’s not too loud and a crowd that’s only a little rowdy. Star #4 is for the staff. Attentive and friendly, we had a great experience even though we took up a 4 person table for 2 of us and didn’t order proper dinners. They kept us happy! Star #5 is for the BEER. Oh the beer. The list I looked at first was just the draft specials. ANDTHEN I OPENEDTHEMENU. Craft beer lovers, unite, and visit Eulogy. You are guaranteed to find something you love and probably many you haven’t tried yet.
