I had a really great experience here! The owner Gene is a gem! He was extremely helpful and I fell in LOVE with my glasses!!! Gene is very knowledgable and willing to help in any way. This is truly a great place to shop!

We stopped in to get a pair of glasses adjusted, but Gene was really busy and said he’d be happy to help if we could wait. Unfortunately we had reservations next door and we couldn’t. Despite being busy, Gene not only took the glasses and readjusted them, he delivered them to us next door at the restaurant! In other words, we are now Eyesite customers for life.

I had to call the makers of the glasses to get defective part fixed.

I read all the other reviews here. Apart from 2 all are 5*, clearly all these customers actually bought something, while the 2 negative ones… draw your own conclusions.

My husband and I were in this afternoon and this was the first shop out of several we have visited where we finally found the perfect selection of frames for him. Gene is excellent and was really active in finding John a pair of glasses and his great service was highlighted in comparison to our visit to Blink Optics next to Boyd’s where the bearded guy with the long hair played games and texted on his phone the entire time we were in there. Gene was mindful of John’s facial structure in choosing his suggestions while taking into account what John had expressed he was looking for. Dude at Blink never even looked up from his phone to look at our faces. Yes, the prices at Eyesite are definitely on the steeper end of the scale but I think it’s justified with the superb quality and design of product and the wonderful service.

Absolutely the best place to go for glasses. The frames are unique, gorgeous, and works of art. And they choose the best frames to not only suit your face, but your personality. One of a kind.

Eyesite is the dream store if you’re on a budget — as in you can only dream to buy glasses there. I tried on some glasses I loved, but sadly they weren’t covered by my insurance, and I really couldn’t afford $ 500+ on a beautiful pair. They are cheaper at Eyesite than other places (and even online), and I definitely would love to get a pair that unique. The salespeople were very friendly and helpful. I got a hands on experience and honestly wished I could have gotten «the dream pair» — but when I saw the price I realized it was not going to happen. I will return when I have more money in my pockets. I’m confident they’ll have just as many unique and beautiful pairs next year :)

Like many of the reviewers here, I have been to all the high end eyeglass shops in the city and Manayunk. I guess it just depends what designer you like and whether or not the shop carries that brand.
Gene, the owner is always accomodating and very patient as it does take time to see what feels right and looks right on your face.
For me, I discovered Theo from Antwerp. Theo’s owners are two men who’s designing skills are finely honed. No one else in Philly carries this designer. They are very particular about to whom they give their franchise.

I am from NY but came down for the weekend to visit my daughter and to warm up as we had no heat or electricity because of Sandy. I have been wanting new, funky eyeglasses for a while now and had not been able to find what I wanted on Long Island. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted kindly and when I mentioned I was looking for something with color, both Gene and his optician (her name escapes me), took the time and effort to find me the perfect pair. They didn’t mince words (nicely though) when a frame didn’t work, and they were honest when it did. I went in thinking I wanted a Theo frame and walked out with a red hot leather Lucas de Stael frame and I’m in love with it. I do the Rittenhouse art show every spring and will be back to see what they have new when I’m next in town.
Plus today was the first day I wore the frames after having my optician here make them up for me. After only a few hours, I’d already gotten two compliments on my glasses including asking where i had gotten them. Unfortunately for them I had to let them know I got them in Philadelphia. :)

This might be a good place if you are not sure what styles you like — but then this might be also the worst place you could go to if your style does not match the one of the couple running the store. I was there with my girlfriend and we looked at the collection while discussing what glasses might fit her. At some point the sales women pushed me aside telling me it does not matter what my opinion was and she would take over from here. I should have stopped her right there, but I was polite and thought she might actually help. But whenever I voiced my opinion afterwards about the rather strange glasses she suggested I got the same patronizing «it does not matter what you want– I am the person in charge» attitude.
Make sure you know how to say no in this shop– otherwise you might end up spending $ 600 for a designer fame you will hate a few days later.

I have a pair of Markus-​T ME frames. I bought them at Modern Eye in Philadelphia. Unfortunately my cat snapped my right temple. When I returned to Modern Eye to get a new temple, they said that they could not get me a replacement because they no longer do business with the designer — Markus-​T. So I contacted Markus T. directly and they sent me to Eyesite. Gene had a temple in stock and quickly set me up for free. He was also incredibly nice on the phone and in the store.

OKAY. Yes, Eyesite is pricey. But, the frames I got cost no more than anywhere else. The lenses were the killer, but glasses are expensive, people!
Love, love, love this place. Gene (I think that’s his name) is incredibly helpful and friendly. He will find you unique frames that you love. Not just like, but love. As much as a pet or a child or something. I got lucky and ended up getting the first pair I tried on.
Now I look cooler than everyone.

Best Glasses in Philly.
When ever I get a new pair It get noticed.

First off, I love glasses, I have nine prescription and six straight sunglasses. Cutler and Gross are probably my favorite brand and currently have four pairs. So with that said, I give this store a two star and thats only for the glasses that they carry. The service is terrible, pretty much from the start you get sized up and given a cold hello. I’m not a fan of most of the selection tucked away in the drawers, I want to ‘see’ the entire selection. I can’t comment on the actual purchasing and aftercare experience, since I’ve never bought anything and will never buy anything from Eyesite.
I’m reading the other reviews on how great this store is and I beg to differ. There are other eyewear boutiques in Philly that are happy to assist you and take the time to show you options. Hey, they just might have the same brands too, Salts and Face a Face. Shop around they aren’t the only ones in town and maybe you’ll agree they really aren’t that great.

After I bought my first pair I went back to get a few business cards because I kept getting stopped on the street to inquire where I got my glasses… i got tired of giving directions — simply handing them the business card is much easier.
and as for price — you really do get what you pay for (but it isn’t that bad — plus he has a 50% off bin with an incredible selection)

If you want nice glasses — the kind of glasses that will get you compliments all the time, you need to go to Eye Site. Gene (the owner) has the best selection of really high end, interesting glasses. Gene stocks brands that actually focus on making eyeglass frames as opposed to most eyeglass stores that carry brands high end fashion brands (Prada, Gucci, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, etc.) who merely license their names to some factory pumping out frames. He carries brands like Face a Face, Christian Roth and Cutler & Gross. Gene also will give you an honest opinion about what styles work for your face.
Yes, it is expensive, but, if you are going to wear something on your face everyday, it is worth it. Gene also charges a pretty penny for his lenses, but, as I have learned from experience, the price is worth it for the lenses as well.
I have a pair of Face a Face glasses I bought from Eye Site, which I love. Unfortunately, my prescription strength increased. I had my eye doctor get me new lenses, and the new lenses are a lot more smudgy than the ones I got from Gene. Not worth the $ 40 I saved going through my eye doctor. A friend of mine sent her Face a Face glasses to a mail order outfit to get new lenses, and they broke her frames.
Bottom line: Gene has the best stuff with prices to match, but it is well worth it.

I got my favorite pair of sunglasses ever here last spring (a pair of Salts — a Japanese optics company). Then lost them in a taxi on the way to the Madonna concert. *sigh*
But that sad story of drunken irresponsibility is neither here nor there.
Eye Site is a great boutique for unique, high quality, designer sunglasses you wont find too many other places. And I’m not talking Chanel or Gucci or Dior… please those are junk in comparison to the quality & craftsmanship you will find here. Not to mention if you get a pair of frames from here you won’t be seeing them on too many other people in town, if any. From what they told me, they only get one pair of frames in for each style or color. Which is a huge plus for me, cause I hate seeing people wearing the same awesome items as I.
OK, so there’s that, tons of funky high quality frames. Both sunglasses or reg frames — many of the sunglasses can be turned into prescription shades as well, but not all.
The people working there are great too. They’re not just trying to sell you whatever you want and snag your money. They really try to help you find frames which fit your face well. And if they don’t fit your face, take it from me, they’ll let you know. There are too many people walking around in frames that don’t look good on their face at all, but are wearing them because they’re «trendy» anyway. Don’t be one of those people.
My eyes aren’t very bad, so I was able to get a quick lil eye test so the doc could figure out my script — no need to contact my previous optometrist and fax over my info. Simple.
Glasses were ready for me in about a week, then they tweaked the fit even more to make them as comfortable as possible for me. After that I was able to pop in whenever & get them re-​tweaked or cleaned.
Until I lost them in a taxi, that is. :(
Oh there is one con — no insurance is accepted here at all.

Impeccable service, terrific selection, exquisite taste. Not cheap. Not cheap at all. But if you can afford it, worth it, without a doubt.
