I really liked this place! This was my first time here at the suggestion of a friend. Parking was generally easy to find. No cover charge, but they do check id’s upon entry. It wasn’t over crowded. Everyone who wanted to be seated, could be. Everyone was having a good time. There was no drama. I liked the music selection. There is a pool table, and tv’s. The prices on drinks… will make me come back. I purchased 2 shots for 9 bucks… that is amazing. I did have 2 long islands that I did not purchase myself so I am unaware of how much they cost. But they were STRONG. I believe a pitcher of beer was 9 bucks as well. You can smoke tobacco products in here for those who care.

Way back when I was doing a short stint at St. Joe’s, 5 Points had THE best BBQ in the city. It was a little rough compared to the Bala, so I really only came to eat, shoot and leave(nerd joke, get it?). After almost 20 years, however, I’ve started to go back for the level of competition you can find there on an average night. Some good things: 1. almost nothing has changed, same layout, same décor, same bathrooms(including the door that looks like you can just lift and lean it to close it, but NO you can’t), same neighborhood people, same great pool most nights. 2. The bartenders are awesome, friendly, fast, and some will even remember you 20 years later. 3. Although that slammin’ bbq is gone, Mykal’s Kitchen is just as good, if not better for the variety. Platters are affordable and delicious. The cooks can definitely cook. 4. Thursday night is their new ladies’ night. $ 5 Long Island’s and $ 2 Ciroc shots/mixed drinks. In addition, they do raffles and give out magic bullets, drinks and other fun prizes to the winners. Sunday nights is my favorite night though, Old School Soul and R&B all night long. Smooth, easy and lovely. 5. The pool table is almost always busy, and the board is almost always loaded with good shooters. 6. You can smoke inside. 5 Points is still — and probably always will be– a chill spot to eat, drink and/or shoot some competitive pool.

I shoot pool league & this is hands down my favorite bar to play an away game. The staff is courteous and friendly. Drinks are cheap and a heavy pour. You can smoke indoors(not always a plus, depending on how crowded it is). There is a pool table(which I love). But … this is by far much more important. If you are coming here, do NOT eat anything that day. As soon as you’ve ordered a drink, head immediately to the kitchen. Peruse the special board & order EVERYTHING you see before you. My personal favorites are the mac & cheese, the greens & the fish. This is the sort of soul-food you want to main line. Add to that the hot sauce, that I believe they make on premises. The portions are incredibly generous and so delicious, it’s like going to soul food Heaven. The food here reminds me alot of the kitchen at the sadly defunct South Valley. You will walk out of 5 points full, tipsy, with some leftovers, stinking of smoke & the desire to be back the following day.

If you ever wanted a neighborhood bar to turn into a home away from home, Five Points fits the bill. The pool table always has good shooters in line, and the bartenders are a riot. One of my favorite hangouts.

Very cool neighborhood bar. This must be the real Philly. The folks were friendly, drinks were good and cheap and we even got cordial good-byes on the way out. Thanks for being so friendly to some out of towners who stopped in for a last drink.
