I have been buying hats from Jon for years. I like that he isn’t at all pushy and lets me look around and try on anything I want. I understand being a wary business owner on South Street as there are many knuckleheads that come through on a regular basis and you’d be naïve to think everyone that roams down the street is legit. I really like his selection and especially the Korean lids of lately. There’s something in there for everyone. I exchanged an unworn Harris Tweed hat today for a larger size with no problem. Buy a couple hats and Jon might hook you up with a deal. My wife bought me my latest piece and it wasn’t an hour before I got my first compliment. I recommend Hat Stop to all my friends.

after reading the previous reviews i figured id stop in here again to see if the atmosphere had changed any from the last time i was there. it hadnt. the asian shopkeeper was pretty much on us the entire time we were in the store. he never once asked if we needed help nor was he personable. on a thoroughfare like south street i dont know how business owners like this last. the prices were high and the selection was just okay. would i recommend this shop to anyone, probably not.

My friend and I had been looking around for a timeless yet classy txapela/beret style hat for her boyfriend and although we were looking for a price offered by big department stores we could not find anything that was quite what we wanted, their selection was very limited… I had walked by this store many times before but never bought anything since I thought it was too pricey and thought I could find the same for less someplace else. I think this place is a great find when you do not haveuch time to spend waiting for an online order, they have a selection you can’t find in large department stores, the dependent is very helpful at finding the right size based on pictures of you and your loved one. I guess if you account for all the stores you do not have to go to in order to find the perfect gift, fuel spent and the stress of running out of time the price you pay here is ultimately worth it, then add the expression of their loved one as they open their gift(hey this is great quality stuff do it might even become like an heirloom type ting with proper care), and voila the gates of the gift giver hall of fame will open right before you!

I went in here looking for a winter hat. This is one of those places that caters to the ‘urban’ market. There are a ton of overpriced hats that are shoddily made, and a few designer label hats(IE: Kangol.) First issue: the Asian shop keeper(owner?) clocked my guard from the second I came in until the second I left. I was the only customer inside, and I felt like he was in loss prevention overdrive. Second issue: on the top shelf of the very first wall shelf you see when you walk was a minstrel record on display, complete with a man in black face on it. This is the ONLY record(or artwork of any kind) on display inside. I can’t help but feel it is intentional and meant to send a message. It’s offensive on it’s face(no pun intended,) but the fact that it so clearly stands alone in an otherwise hat-filled shop seems clear: we don’t want black people in our store. Suffice it to say that I did not buy a hat, nor will I ever, from Hat Stop!
