I had the UFO special. Absolutely delicious. Excellent portion as well, very generous with the roll size

Hoshi’s has great sushi and large portion sizes compared to some sushi places. The staff is quick and they use an iPad for payment which is nice. You can have the receipt emailed instead of printed. Hoshi’s has a lot of specialty rolls. My favorite is the Hawaiian Roll lunch combo which comes with a soda and side of either dumplings or an egg roll.

I was just walking around the city last Sunday with no real destination in mind. I started to get hungry and was thinking about this dirty looking pizza place I saw a few blocks away(they are my favorite places to go). So I’m walking along and I pass this place and I see a sign that you can get fries with your order of sushi. My brain didn’t accept this notion for a few blocks. Then I figured what’s the worst that could happen! So I turned back and went in. The place is pretty basic but relatively quick. Im often sitting around most sushi places thinking ignorantly, «I wonder what takes them so long to roll fish in rice.» So with that in mind it was rather quick. The food was served on glass plates and everything else you need to properly stuff your face. It was all good food. I ordered a number ten(two rolls and six pieces of nigiri), a soda, a side of two pork dumplings and the whole thing ran me about twelve bucks. This isn’t a fancy place, so expect the average Chinese take-out wood table and chairs. Don’t go in thinking you’re about to eat at Morimoto or something but this is by no means a bad place to eat. I would say if you too are aimlessly walking around the city and see that sign for sushi and fries, go in and have a sit. You won’t be disappointed. The only thing I will say that is a bummer is that they are closed on Saturday. I guess everyone needs a day off, and if it was Sunday instead I would have never found them.

Hoshi’s is like the stripped down Asian food that I make for myself at home– healthier than most take out, nothing too fancy, and spares me the trouble of having to make things like salmon teriyaki or steamed brown rice on my own at home. Their dumplings are pretty good, make sure you ask for them to heat them up for you if you’re grabbing them from the to-go section. Sushi is well priced, not mind blowing but definitely consistent.

Sushi places are like cheesesteaks, a dime a dozen in Philadelphia, so much so you’d think it is another iconic philadelphia cuisine– besides soft pretzels, hoagies and water ice! Hoshi– is Japanese for Star, and clearly they make each sushi as an art piece that deserves a golden star! We all know that the sushi experience is a very personal, therefore, Hoshi’s promises a good quality Japanese food and prices hard to beat. Their«grab and go» from the sushi bar are excellent. Try the Avocado Wrap, Shrimp Tempura or the Crunchy California roll. Add one more dollar to your sushi to make it a combo, and you will get a spring roll or two steam dumplings and a drink! The meal I got was bad. I had the chicken teriyaki lunch special, which comes with rice, a small fountain drink, and a side dish, which can be either dumplings, a spring roll, or an egg roll. The teriyaki chicken was soupy. The dumplings were unremarkable and soggy. The soda was warm, even though it was served iced. I’m not sure how they accomplished that, but that’s how it was. Total cost was $ 5.83. This is cheap, but you can do a lot better in this neighborhood even for only $ 5.83.
