I just moved to the are from NYC and was blown away by the $ 40 price tag for a simple wash and roller set with a deep conditioner. They charge even more if you wash and blow dry instead of getting rollers. Back home, the same service with a choice of either a $ 5, $ 7, or $ 10 deep conditioner would run me no more than $ 35. I’m sure length is a factor but my hair is only like a couple inches past my shoulders so it’s not super long. But for my first visit, I really needed to get my hair done and this place had good reviews so I gave it a shot. Brenda did my hair and it came out decent, I just wasn’t feeling the feathered look she gave me. I didn’t notice until she was done though and since it was my first time, I figured she just wanted to showcase her skills a bit and add a little flair to an otherwise boring wash and set. I decided to give them a try again for a dye job and Brenda styled me this time as well. While the finished product was decent, she burned the hell out of me unapologetically and while the woman that washed my hair was setting it in rollers, she proceeded to stand right in front of me with a plate of food and eat right over me. The lady rolling my hair had to tell her not to do that in front of me as it was impolite and unprofessional. I appreciated that very much especially since if I had to say something it would not have been politely. She wanted to go for that«feathered» look again but I politely declined and she listened. I went back for now what will be my final visit after being served entirely by Brenda from start to finish, not just for styling. It’s annoying enough that they make you hold this plastic wrap thing around your neck to keep the water from sliding down your neck but she didn’t at least put a towel around my neck to catch the water while washing and when she went to roll my hair the entire back of my sweater got drenched. I’m like seriously do I have to beg for a towel? She never gives you a smock while styling unless trimming. She remembered me this time and asked if I wanted the feathered look and I said I didn’t want that just straight. She confirmed by asking. «No feather?» to which I told her again no feather just straight. So I had my head down in my phone while she worked then got finished to a *SURPRISE* feathered do that she again burned the hell out of me during the process. I didn’t ask her to change it nor should I have had to because she specifically asked and confirmed that I did not want it done that way so I was just aggravated and wanted to leave. I don’t know what her obsession is with this look in particular but if I tell you I don’t want something and you do it anyway and it’s not the first time you don’t do as I ask I have a problem with that. I also have a problem with going to give you my credit card and you just go to grab it without even telling me the price. She tells me it’s $ 40 then I notice she charged me for $ 42. If there is a fee for using a credit card, you need to tell the customer. I shouldn’t have to ask how much my style cost and how if there is a fee for using a card. Brenda is a good stylist but she doesn’t like to listen and has terrible customer service skills. The language barrier has nothing to do with it because I have been to plenty of salons where the women speak even less english and are still much more professional. Nevermind the fact that if you live and work in America, you should make an effort to learn the language to better serve your clients. I tipped her the first two times — albeit a bare minimum– but by this last time I was annoyed and didn’t tip at all. For exactly the same price I would be paying here for a style I consistently don’t want no matter how many times I say it, I can pay for a round trip bus ride to NYC and go to my old salon and get exactly what I want. So, I’ll be doing that in the meantime until I find myself another salon with better service and stylists who will give me what I want.

ok. I think I want to cry. I went in here because I desperately needed my hair done, and had a previous apt with a salon downtown that I cancelled due to the service being around 150.00 [did not want to pay that] Well., I Unilocaled black hair salon’s, and BOOM! Lisflor popped up with amazing reviews. I thought, wth. I arrived on Tuesday around 10:50 am no appointment, and not expecting this fantastic service that everyone was talking about [with me its always Murphy’s Law] I walk in and Brenda happily greeted me and took me back immediately. ok I thought, that’s a little unbelievable. she washed, conditioned and sat me under the dryer for a little, then rinsed and put me in the chair and started blow drying. She asked me what I wanted done and I told her ‘I don’t care, whatever you want”. [still not expecting much] by the time I looked up again, I had this amazing, soft, fantastic, beautiful hair!!! I could not believe it!!! The cost? 35.00! UNBELIEVABLEAGAIN! you mean not 135.00? I walked out the salon looking amazing, and home in time for Young and the Restless! WHODOESTHAT?!? Well, it looks like I have found my new home. I will be coming here for life! Thank you [btw, I am at work now, and just had 3 more people come up and compliment me, mind you, its a day later, raining and windy outside. The curls have not moved :) :)

Very quick to take you in and get your hair washed. I didn’t get a roller set but just a blow dry and she was quick. Brenda took care of me. Small establishment, not a lot of seating but it’s ok. This area is very transited and not a lot of on street parking available. The employees are nice and very good at what they do. Whether you have black or Spanish hair. You’ll come out looking great. They take debit cards and visas. No American Express. I used cash because I’ve learned to be prepared for card systems to be down or not being able to tip on the card. They certainly play loud Spanish music soooo my advice is bring your headphones or a book to tune it out if you are not into all that jazz. Also, don’t hesitate in bringing your own hair products. I saw a few people had their own shampoo and treatments. I’ll definitely be back. During the weekends it’s a mad house… Very busy so don’t be surprised.

Got my hair done today by Brenda. She took her time and did not burn my ears or scalp while blow drying and flat ironing my hair. I got a free deep conditioner for being a first time customer. I was also in and out in under 2 hours. I will definitely go back the next time I need my hair straightened. Wash, blow dry, flat iron, and pin curls totaled $ 47.

I really wanted to give this place 3.75 stars. I was there in early June and can’t remember who did my hair. It was an older lady. She was very sweet and gentle with my natural, 4b, collarbone length hair. I was the first person in the shop that morning, so I didn’t have a wait. I got my hair washed, conditioned, blown out, and flat ironed. She trimmed it too. I asked for an inch and got exactly an inch off! How often does that happen?!! So why not 5 stars? I was there for about 6 hours(She never took a break)!!! The only time I’ve ever been in a salon that long was to get braids. Even with the cheap prices, I can’t justify spending that much time in a salon. I recently moved from NC and the salon I went to did the same exact thing to my hair in about 3 hours.

Hola mami! If you need to get your hair done well, cheaply, and quickly, this Dominican salon will fulfill all those needs. I discovered this place when I moved back to Philly after college and needed a great but more affordable place to get my hair done. I have semi-long, natural, curly hair(no chemicals) that straightens easily with heat(and patience). Typically, they’ll do what’s called a «wash-and-dry» AKA«lavado y secado» or «roller set», the latter being after washing your hair, they sit you under the dryer with rollers in your hair until it’s dry, giving you that lustrous, bouncy hair look you’re going for. The wash-and-dry costs $ 30 and the roller set is $ 25; $ 5 for trim/ends clipped; hair cut and styled ~$ 20-$ 40; perms and relaxers are ~$ 60; and color ~$ 25 and up. For women who want their hair to hang perfectly straight without waves and without using harsh chemicals or hot irons or combs, you can get what’s called a «doobie», where your hair is brushed and wrapped tightly around your head, held in place with hairpins or clips and a head scarf, preferably silk. It’s like using your head for a curler and it’s less stressful for your hair and scalp! The longer you leave your hair wrapped, the better it works, so normally you’d keep the wrap overnight. You can then re-wrap your hair every night before you go to sleep to make that salon look last.(Doobies don’t work with very short hair though. Matter of fact, most Dominican stylists work best with hair lengths of at least 3 – 4 inches. Most Dominican women like their hair to be long so some Dominican salons don’t know what to do with short hair. Also, most Dominican salons don’t know a lot about styles that aren’t Dominican, for example corn rows, braids, weaves, etc. But you never know… so ask first.) Because I most often wear my hair straight and therefore personally prefer to get my hair blow-dried by hand, I get the«wash and dry» AKA the«Dominican blow-out» because 1) I can’t sit under the dryer for very long and 2) it simply gets my hair straighter. Expect the blow dryer to get very hot and for your hair to get pulled a little, so if you’re tender-headed you should get the rollers. The blow dryer works exceptionally well for me though and gives my hair tons of body and gets it fully straightened to where I come out looking like I could be in a Dark and Lovely commercial: p ¡Ay mami, joo hair so long… que linda! Customary in any Dominican salon, there will be loud talking in Spanish(they speak some English too though), as well as bachata, merengue, salsa, and/or reggaeton playing over the speaker so it’d be helpful if you brushed up on your Spanish 101. ¡So ven mamis, ven!

Man! Monica O. beat me to the«First» to review Lisflor’s. But she wrote a damn good review! So I’ll make mine a quickie. I’ve been a customer for 2 years now after searching hard and long to find a good stylist. Other Black salons I have been to either overcharge for a simple wash and curl, keep you waiting all day, or are unprofessional… sorry, but true. Lisflor’s is great because: –It’s cheap! $ 25 for a wash and set(w/roots blown out and flat iron!!!) –They are quick… you won’t wait alllllllllllllll day –Your hair comes out bouncy, silky, and luxurious! –All of the stylists will make you look great Yes, they speak in spanish – loudly and constantly, and it does sound like they are arguing at times… but they’re probably just talking about what they did over the weekend… stay there long enough and you’ll understand… now those Korean nail salons — -that’s another story! You know they’re talking about your corns! So all my Boricuas and Morenas, head over to Lisflor’s…you won’t be disappointed. And if for some reason you are – at least you only spent $ 25 ;-)
