My favorite sushi restaurant in Philadelphia so far. The staff is pleasant. The sushi is beautiful, creative, affordable, and delicious. My favorite roll is American Roll, and when I’m feeling cheap it’s crunchy spicy tuna roll. I wish they were open for lunch, but they only open at 5. The two times I’ve dined-in, they offered free appetizers. I do take-out there often, it’s timely, and just as great as it is when I’ve dined-in. I definitely recommend Misso!

What a beautiful restaurant! Everything about tthe décor is exquisite! A very elegant, yet cozy little restaurant with very warm service eager to please. Went there on a quiet Sunday night and they were out of some apps, but they were very kind to send us a free one and totally made up for it. Seemed like everyone in the pleasant(and spotlessly clean!) dining room was having a good time. Food was delicious and well-presented. I will return.

Sushi, like a lot dishes is either done right or disgusting. I think, It is rare(pun intended) to find sushi that just sticks out way above the rest for one reason or another. It is either fresh or not worth eating. Misso was delicious, but as most, not exceptional. If you’ve found ‘your’ sushi place, Then you’d only go here for geographic convenience, BYOB or the %10 of with theater ticket. The place was empty when we went during the week. They did give us the delicious chile-oiled tofu and seaweed salad. The server was really kind as well. We had a bunch of rolls; all were equally good and fresh from the spicy tuna to the Boston and of course the dragon. We would definitely go again if we are in the area.

I wish I had more to say about Misso, but I thought it was about average at a slightly high price. All things being equal, I would prefer to get sushi at Wasabi House a couple blocks away for roughly the same level of quality at two-thirds the price. I’ll need to return – that’s in writing, hold me to it – but thus far I’m not especially enthusiastic about the food here. Since this was my first time, I went very basic: green salad, miso soup and spicy tuna roll. The ginger dressing in the green salad was unremarkable. The miso soup tasted, and looked, straight out of a packet. The spicy tuna roll was fresh, probably above average, but not great.

Went to have some dinner over at Misso. Place was empty so I get a personal and very warm service from both the waitress and chef. I mostly like I/O maki roles and was recommended to take the caterpillar and misso roles which were both EXCELLENT. the regular salmon role that I decided on myself was plain and looked pale in comparison with the other 2. 3 I/O roles(of 6 pieces each) + adamame for $ 34 sounds reasonable to me for the quality, freshness and creativity level you get. Two thumbs up!

I returned to Misso almost a full year after my first and only experience. Like the last time, the restaurant was empty save for one other table on a weeknight. I started with clear soup while my dining companion had the avocado salad. The soup was flavorful and piping hot and the salad looked fresh and tasty. Our server brought us the complimentary appetizers featured on the menu; a spicy tofu dish and some seaweed salad. I don’t do tofu so I tasted only the salad which was pretty standard as far as seaweed salads go. For dinner I had the spicy tuna sushi, a spicy crunchy tuna roll and my favorite, Japanese tuna balls. Let’s be honest, I’d probably order these things even if I didn’t like them just for the sake of saying«tuna balls,» but the fact of the matter is, they are awesome. At this point, I could have rolled out the door but we ordered some green tea and red bean ice cream for dessert. It was plated nicely on orange slices, with chocolate drizzles and a cherry on top. There isn’t anything fancy about Misso but the food is consistent and there is a ton of variety on the menu. There is a constant flurry of people coming in for takeout, so the business must be doing well despite the lack of crowds in the dining room during the week. The friendly staff goes the extra step to present everything in a nice way and make their guests feel comfortable.

It was fine. Expensive, smaller fish portions, lots of mayo, great service. Didn’t love the Hamaki sashimi, which is extremely rare. Very clean and fairly tasteful décor, thought the communal bar-table was cute.

Chef Bruce is the man who made Sushikazu in Blue Bell a local legend. Having ceded SK to family and taking a couple year hiatus he is back in a beautiful restaurant at Broad and Spruce. First choice, and only choice when we are on;y 2, is the sushi bar. Watching his restrained balletic moves there while producing the city’s best sashimi is one of the reasons to go. The beautiful communal/family table adjacent to the bar always the choice when we take the family. Order uni here and Chef disappears into the back kitchen for a few moments, dispatches the live sea urchin and returns with the roe. The difference between this and packaged uni, which so many restaurants use is much like the difference between Realemon and a just picked Meyer, the disparity is that great. The Asparamaki is a must, the spicy tuna sushi and if you favor eel, the Classic Roll or to make it simple, sit at the bar and after you order the sushi sashimi combo, let him choose. Didn’t say a word our first couple vists, then opened up. A very cultured an erudite man, and a supremely talented chef.

I was floored! The crispy spicy tuna roll was the best sushi I have ever had! The eel was savory, and the price was what less than you might expect for such amazing sushi. I accidentally got there 20 minutes before they opened and certainly didn’t expect them to serve me, but the hostess asked the chef if he was ready and I was able to place my order right then. Being the only customer I got a chance to get a good look around. The ambiance was simple and elegant, and the artwork was fabulous. I plan on coming back to Misso.

This is the first review i have ever done on Unilocal.Typically i have used Unilocal to find new restaurants. I was shocked to see some of the reviews for Misso. If you enjoy Sushi, sit at the bar and simply tell the sushi Chef what you like and wait to be impressed. I am a true sushi snob, UNI, IKURA, SABA, FRESHSCALLOP. All of which are very fresh here. The price is good. Yes there are better deals other places, but i don’t come here for california rolls. The service is great and the bathrooms are clean. Try it out for yourself before you form an opinion based on a review by someone who doesn’t know there fish.

It was… fine. I should say, though, that I only had sushi(the menu is quite extensive) and I did takeout. The sushi wasn’t super fresh, but it wasn’t disgusting either. The rolls are very small for the price — I’ve found much better deals around the city. It was convenient at the time so I don’t really regret it — but I probably won’t go back. I called ahead for takeout and I was told that my order would be ready in 15 – 20 minutes. When I showed up about 20 minutes later, to a completely empty restaurant, I was told that they hadn’t started my order yet. It only took about 10 minutes, and I really wasn’t bothered by it, but there really wasn’t much use in making the call.

The rolls I had were very good, and the staff were very pleasant. As with other reviewers, we never got our free appetizers, but I still liked the experience. It’s BYOB too, so that’s nice to save some money.

I’ve only eaten here once, but of the various items I tried, my impression is that it’s hit or miss. A few pieces of fish were good, not great. One item(I forget which… yellowtail maybe?) tasted«off», like it had gone bad. The cuts weren’t very well done, which is another red flag… good knife work is very important to quality sushi, so chances are this chef had no real training as a sushi chef.

I hate to knock a place that everyone spoke highly of but dude, are we speaking of the same location??? The sushi I experienced here on a Sunday was DISGUSTING. two of our three rolls were overly fragrant in fish both in scent and in flavor… that suggests its not fresh. The Specialty rolls were creative and I can appreciate that IF they tasted good… but they disappointed and at $ 15/roll they were a hard roll to swallow. Let’s not forget that these rolls are 5 pieces where traditional rolls have 6 to 8 pieces. I won’t be rushing back to Misso and I hope I discourage you from going but if I haven’t been successful in doing so, I hope you make a point to ask where your«FREE appetizer» is because we never received this treat despite the fact that the menu blatantly promotes this dining benefit!

Went here on Saturday night based on Laban’s review in the Inq I ate here when it was a different restaurant and had a good experience, however that place was not doing good business because the location is sort of hidden from view. Overall, I was very impressed by Misso, however you can tell they are still working out a lot of the kinks. The décor was beautiful, with wood panels and Japanese prints decorating the walls. One this that surprised me was the large«bar» that occupies half of the restaurant. We actually got stuck here because we didn’t have reservations. While this bar may be nice for accommodating large groups, it greatly limits the number of available seats. They would be better off with more tables rather than the bar. As for the food — we ordered a little bit of everything: Agedashi tofu — very delicate with a wonderful sauce Spring rolls — very nice, these had a sort of birds nest skin and were accompanied by a great sauce Sashimi sampler — The sashimi here was excellent! Very fresh and cut and presented well. A little surprised at the inclusion of seared albacore tuna though, seemed out of place. Scallop roll — Very nice, not overflowing with stuff, great flavors and crunchy roe on top. Vegetable Tempura — Also excellent — great batter and not at all greasy. Wonderful presentation as well. The culinary aspects of our meal were all great — the only downside here was the service! They only had 2 waitresses for a very busy restaurant, which resulted in a lot of confusion and delay. The kitchen also seemed to be running a little slow. However, they did give us free ice cream to make up for it. Overall, very nice experience, and with time and more honed servers this will be a great establishment.

I walk by this place everyday and finally tried it the other night. It’s not the easiest to spot, since it’s pushed back from the street under a large awning. If you are in this neighborhood and looking for some really good sushi, definitely go here! The service is great, the interior is great and the food is tastey!
