This Modell’s has a pretty decent selection of basic athletic clothing. It is kind of a dingy feeling store, but not too bad. They have a variety of brands at different price points, from Under Armour to Champion. Their shoe selection looked pretty small, and they didn’t have any clothes that are geared towards outdoor activities like hiking. I had a huge issue when I went to try a few items on. When I got to the dressing room area(which is in the middle of a not very nice looking hallway at the back of the store), the employee informed me I had to leave my purse outside the dressing room. It was a small purse, way too small to hide any of the items I was trying on. I kind of stared at the man in disbelief, but he remained persistent. Asking your customers to leave their valuable belongings outside the dressing room in an unsecured hallway is ridiculous. Just hand your customers a number corresponding to the number of items they are bringing in with them, like most stores do. I nearly set down my items and left, but finally agreed because I was in desperate need of some new running clothes and city sports didn’t carry the type of sports bra I wanted. Nothing was stolen, but I spent the whole time in the dressing room worrying. I later contacted Modell’s through their online form asking about this policy, but received no response. Overall, City Sports has better customer service, a nicer looking store, and way more sensible policies.

This place is OK if you want to pick up a pair of sweat pants, socks, or a tee shirt.

All I can say is that Modell’s is okay. Selection? Not great. Staff? Not very helpful. But I suppose if you find what you’re looking for(probably on your own), the prices seem reasonable.

Customer service is lacking, but prices could be better than City Sports. They also don’t have a student discount, but City Sports does(10%).

I never thought I would say this about any store — EVER, but you would be much better served going to the Modells location in The Gallery at Market East. While this Modells is theoretically in a more upscale part of town, the store has a very run-down feel to it. The employees are not particularly helpful, and the selection is quite limited. A recent trip to attempt a purchase of a bathing suit and goggles was a particularly fruitless example. I asked the woman at the register if they had bathing suits and goggles. After being eyed with a blend of suspicion and confusion, I got the response of «Uhhh — I think we have some women’s bathing suits… ummm maybe somewhere with women’s clothing? Umm — I don’t think we have goggles. Do you mean, like swimming goggles? Uhhh — we might have some with the bathing suits if we have any bathing suits.»

In general, I like Modell’s Sporting Goods. They’re a decent place to go to for any sports related items, and their sneaker prices can be better than other sports chain stores. My issue with this location is that its… just not that great. The selection of items can be infuriating, with massively smaller sections than others(men’s sneaker choices vs. women’s sneaker choices), and poor size selections(tons of large sizes… why not others?). On top of that, it always feels like they have the very minimum number of staff working during the day — mostly at the front register in addition to the lone security guy at the entrance. Its no surprise that this place is empty all the time — they don’t give much reason to go to this location!

How is this place still in business!!! Seriously. I would like someone to write me a report on it. The store is perpetually empty, even at times of day when most stores on Chestnut and Walnut are hopping. The women’s selection is in a dungy-feeling basement room and is piss poor. Women obviously are second-class athletes, so far be it to include any of their items on the actual showroom floor. I don’t think much time is spent developing the women’s section, though. It would probably help the store out a lot if they cared more about the ladies. I am all about cheap workout gear, but it also needs to be functional. Their sports bra selection is terrible if your workouts include anything other than sitting entirely still. Shorts are mostly limited to Soffees and seasonal items from Nike – and not even the GOOD seasonal items, because I like Nike’s running shorts generally. Their shoe selection is okay. I generally buy my running shoes at outlets, so I can’t speak to that, really. Yes, they have a large variety of fan gear… FORMEN. I wanted a Phillies shirt and everything was enormous on me. City Sports’ selection on pretty much everything is far superior. The only thing I’ve ever actually been successful with here is socks. I’m fine with that. A lady needs her socks. But that is a sad state of affairs for such an enormous sporting goods store.

Since u can’t get a good selection of Eagles & Phillies gear in Dallas, TX I shop here at least 2 X’s year whenever I visit the city. They have the most extensive & inexpensive selection around, just short of going to the fan shops at the Linc & Bank. The staff here is always helpful and they won’t hesitate to contact the Gallery store for an item that may be out of stock. My only negative is the fact they’re usually out of stock on something I’m looking for, however since I’m unable to shop here often and it’s usually out of season that’s more my fault than theres.

I always WANT to go to City Sports, but Modell’s has what I need for low cost. And yes, what i need is fan gear. They have a lot of it, year-round. They don’t really have equipment. This Modell’s is much more tolerable than the one in the Gallery, but what’s not more tolerable than the Gallery?

This Modell’s is pretty amazing. The property itself has hosted such wonderful stores as Loehmann’s and Today’s Man… Both of which are no longer open. There are instead 3 floors of Sporting Goods for one to explore! I went in with all intentions of getting a square-cut racing swim suit… Instead, I ended up getting fitted for a pair of Chicago-Racer Roller Skates! It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in need of sporting equipment, random sports related clothing, or some fairly priced running sneakers!
