Good ramen with great service! If you say something in Japanese(its on the menu) you can get $ 2 extra noodles for your left over broth. They have plenty of options but as far as taste goes it just wasn’t the«best I’ve ever had.» Regardless, I’ll be back for my ramen fix since this is one of the only places I know of that is an actual ramen bar

So let me start by saying that I have eaten here many times and the food is always delivered quick, hot and always exceeds expectations. The problem with this place, as reflected in my three star rating, is the service. The«hostess,» who was wearing stretch pants and running shoes, acted like having to seat us was annoying as she slammed down the menus and walked away. Our order was taken quickly by another employee. Im not sure if he was even our server because he never came back, until he circled our table waiting for payment. He started to clear the dishes but then when a credit card appeared, he quickly put them back down on the table in order to take our payment. He never asked how things were, never responded to the small talk we attempted to make with him. We had inquired about ordering drinks but were never given the opportunity because nobody ever came back to our table. There was no management anywhere to be seen. To top off the experience, this same hostess/server had her back to us while she flirted with one of the chefs and didn’t even acknowledge that we were leaving. We tried to say thank you, just mainly out of curiosity to see if we warranted a response, but to no surprise were ignored once again.

Ok if you just need to figure out what to order, go with the Spicy Miso Ramen and add an egg. If you don’t like spicy, you’ll have to read another review. Another favorite on the menu is the Agadashi Tofu. It’s fried really well and sits in a delicious home of dashi. As an enjoyer of ramen — this is probably has my favorite bowl of ramen in Philly. So why only 3 stars? Easy. The price of this place and the quantity of ramen they serve just doesn’t add up. So if price doesn’t play into your decision for food and you’re craving ramen… come here and enjoy!

Ramen Bar looks really hip and nice on the inside but the ramen wasn’t very great. The broth is not very flavorful. For a place that specializes in ramen and serves ramen as their primary entrée, it’s pretty disappointing.

the sushi is good. the dishes were well prepared but maybe a little too generous with the sauces on top of the specialty rolls. the atmosphere is great. i came alone and didnt feel too weird at the bar alone, i liked the music they played which was clubbish ans upbeat. i got the tom yum ramen though and it was not spicy or flavorful and it didnt even taste like tom yum soup. it was sort of fishy and lacking flavor.

I passed here a few times while heading to work, but never bothered going in until recently. The Ramen Bar looked like it belonged in Old City, and not next to a bike shop. The décor seemed unoriginal and plain typical. The front of the house(FOH) felt as if they just started working for the first time. However, they were friendly enough to get a pass. Service was acceptable, albeit rather sluggish(probably because it was a packed house). I had the Shrimp Fried Rice and it was delicious. The plating looked amateurish, but the food had a good balance of texture and ginger zest. Not a place I would normally dine, but maybe drop in after a few drinks.

We came into the restaurant as a group of 14, and the staff seated us immediately. They were extremely kind and helpful. None of us had any experience with traditional ramen, yet they helped explain different dishes and find something we’d all like. The restaurant had a captivating ambience. The ultra sleek décor and ambient house music created a chic urban vibe. It was very inviting and had a trendy feel. The food was absolutely delicious. Most of us ordered the ramen and we were all content with our meals. Each dish was artfully presented and each bowl was food blog photo worthy. The broth was flavorful and contents were hardy. I would definitely recommend this to a friend. My only complaint would be that there wasn’t enough protein in the bowls. On the menu there is an option to add more meat or an egg, but I’d rather have them automatically add more and raise the prices. The bowls were very well priced at $ 10 or $ 12 a bowl. I would add the extra pork or egg for a small additional charge.

Decent ramen, good vibes, and good service. This spot near Penn is not bad for a nice Saturday day outside with friends and cousins and it’s large enough to accommodate larger groups. I like how this ramen place is modern with its large glass windows to allow for maximum natural light to stream in, without overdoing it with the Japanese-style architecture. I wouldn’t say this is the best ramen in town(I would say in Philly, Hiro is the best) but it’s decent enough to swing by if you’re in the area and craving ramen. I would say if you’re from LA, then you’d be disappointed no matter where you go in the East Coast for Japanese ramen cause there’s nothing like(in the States at least) ramen from a super cramped and crowded Japanese ramen spot in Little Tokyo. I think Toronto has the best Japanese food in North America though. Parking can be a pain especially on Saturdays and Sundays so plan accordingly. Parking: Limited free 2 hour street parking or metered street parking Price: $ 12+ Wait: 10 mins

Ramen bar is the place to go if you’re looking for something warm and satisfying! I always get the spicy miso ramen with wavy noodles because it’s salty and savory, which is exactly what I crave on a cold day. There are tender pieces of pork in the soup and you can get additional add ons such as a spiced egg, fishcakes, extra meat, extra noodles, etc., as well. If someone in your party is not a ramen fan, they also have extensive sushi/katsu options on their menu!

I’ve tried Ramen Bar at least 3 times by now, and every time I’ve left here feeling underwhelmed. Had Ramen Bar been located in my home city of Los Angeles, it would’ve gotten 2 stars, but the dearth of options in Philly kick it up +1 star. I’ve gotten the tonkatsu ramen most times I’ve been here with the addition of an egg($ 1), and the broth is lacking the depth of flavor that true Japanese ramen should have. In my opinion, Terakawa and Rai Rai both have much better broths than Ramen Bar. Also, I found Ramen Bar to be seriously overpriced — things that you think should come included in the bowl(e.g. marinated egg, more than one tiny piece of pork) all cost extra. The place is pretty cute though and has a nice atmosphere, but despite the fact that I live so close by, I will rather make the trek to Chinatown to get better quality ramen.

I kinda wish Ramen Bar existed back in my college days in the UCity. It’s a pretty good option if you happen to be in the area since they also have rice bowls and sushi menu other than ramen. Green curry ramen was delicious. A buck or two pricier from average ramen places I go to, but that’s ok. Pretty friendly service. FYI– there’s a $ 15 minimum for credit card transactions so better load up on those toppings if you wanna use your card.

Very overpriced, not well made. The drink prices were decent. We should have checked reviews, but we were hungry and both loved the idea of ramen when we drove past. I had a spicy pork ramen and he had non-spicy pork. August 18th, 2015

I love the atmosphere of Ramen Bar. We went with a group of 9 and they were able to accommodate all of us within 5 min. I have been to a couple of Ramen places in the city. I can’t say that it is the best I have ever had but its up there with the best in Philly among the place I have tried. Although this Ramen can get a little bit pricey once you start adding things to the meal. I added a marinated egg and extra pork. It was tastey but the price of it was a little bit more expensive than I would have liked.

I do not eat meat and been looking for a place to serve ramen with tasty veritable broth soup, and I finally found it! Ramen Bar’s vegan miso is very tasty. you can add toppings of your choice for extra $ and, can order«kaedama» for $ 2(extra noodles only). I am Japanese grew up eating tasty ramen with thick noodle. I’m so glad to find Ramen Bar. I don’t live in the city, but I will be back here pretty soon. this place is going to be my fav.

I’ve been coming here since it opened ~2 years ago now and I have been consistently impressed by the quality of their ramen. First thing you should know is that this is «authentic» Japanese ramen, in the sense that they use tonkotsu, shoyu, miso broths as the soup base with fresh wheat noodles — I say this because many asian restaurants market«noodle soup»(meat based broth that you can add an assortment of meats and vegetables to) as «ramen». Ramen Bar is the real deal. My favorite dish here is the Tonkotsu Chasumen. The soup is savory, meaty and delicious, without being too watery or brothy, and the noodles are fantastic. The pieces of chasu(pork) are salty and sumptuous and the other condiments(mushrooms, etc) are fresh and well portioned. For added richness, I highly recommend getting the soft boiled egg as an add-on. I’ve also tried the Tsukemen which is basically a concentrated ramen broth that you dip your noodles in. Very difficult to find outside of Japan and surprisingly well executed. Service is snappy and polite, décor is modern and ambiance is pretty low key — it can get pretty busy during dinner time, but you won’t find yourself needing to use your outside voice to converse. They also have an excellent bar! Featuring a great collection of japanese inspired cocktails and japanese draft beers, their bar is a great place to grab a few drinks as you start out your night. The happy hours provide great drink specials for well drinks, drafts and, of course, sake bombs. Avoid their other non-ramen food(rice dishes and sushi mostly) for they leave much to be desired.

I came here for the first time in years, with low expectations, and am still giving this place a «solid» three stars. The restaurant itself has a lovely atmosphere, with an open kitchen and wood paneling. There is always ample space as well, and they are accommodating with reservations. The food price to quality/quantity ratio is extremely mediocre, however. The prices are very high for the amount of ramen you get; I finished my bowl within 5 minutes, and the soup was lacking as well. I always get the Kara Kara for the spice and the pork, but I always have to add more chili spices, and they now only give you one measly piece of chatsu pork. I did order a happy hour drink, which was worth it as it was a $ 5 sake bomb, but others at my table ordered the specialty cocktails and couldn’t finish them because they tasted like flavored water. The $ 4 whiskey sour seemed like a good deal, though, with a pretty high alcoholic content. Dessert, especially the fried ice cream, is delicious, but also extremely expensive. Come if you want to splurge on food and are too lazy to leave UCity… but there are so many other places where you can order more delicious Japanese food and drinks.

As pretty much the only sit-down ramen place in University City, I tend to visit here frequently as a convenient default. I’m no connoisseur of ramen(other experts can tell you about the subtle nuances in different gradations of broth quality and noodle texture at varying locations), but I think that they serve a consistently solid bowl of hot and tasty ramen, especially during the winter months. The presentation is great, with large wooden spoons and an artistic bowl. I also think that Ramen Bar is a great go-to for its nice ambiance — clean, simple, and modern. The layout helps to accommodate groups as well; I typically visit with 6 – 10 friends and it’s easy to arrange the smaller tables together to fit your group size. Pretty much all the ramen on the menu range from 10 – 14 dollars, which is slightly on the pricier end for noodles. It’s a good size bowl, but several of the guys I go with often end up buying extra noodles for $ 2 to add to their bowl afterwards(if you plan to do so, make you sure you save enough broth as you’re eating!). Finally, if you’d like a recommendation(since there are quite a few ramen options on the menu), I’d say many of them are relatively similar but my personal favorite would probably be the spicy miso, which comes with my preferred wavy noodles instead of straight ones!

I would also start off with their lychee mojito — its really nice and refreshing. The ramen here is pretty good, although I feel like the more I go, the less tasty it gets. They finally did decide to add a sliver of the fish cake to their ramen, which is nice. Last time I went their broth was pretty tasteless that I ended up adding a bunch of the pepper seasoning. I do like their agedashi tofu though — I do recommend trying that! Their sushi menu looks really tasty too –I tried the spider roll(soft shell crab) and it was delicious. Also, I recommend their fried ice cream(with green tea). However, they do garnish it with chocolate syrup(which I personally am not a fan of).

I thought this place deserved an update as I don’t think they’re as low as 2 stars anymore. One of my biggest complaints last time was slow service– and although I didn’t come in a group — they seem better staffed and ready to handle a group this time. They were very friendly, fast and efficient when I stopped for a quick Ramen lunch. I was in and out within about 30 minutes of enjoying my meal slowly, drinking water etc. The food came out within probably 5 minutes, which is a huge improvement(last time I came it took 40 minutes for 2 person order) … which is why it took me TWOYEARS to come back. Food — it’s solid. I’ve only gotten the ramen here so I can’t speak for the other dishes. I got the Tonkatsu ramen which I must say the broth is really flavorful and delicious. They give 1, count em, 1 piece of pork per order so don’t expect some porky-glory. Solid noodle joint in UCity though that will run you $ 10 – 15 They do seem to have some happy hour specials though — $ 4 drinks, some $ 4 or $ 5 appetizers — I may come by to check it out since I love Unilocaling happy hours. will keep you all posted! TIP still stands — not cash only anymore. but $ 15 minimum per card, and maximum of 2 cards per table. Such an inconvenience. It’s 2014. almost 2015. I find it really unacceptable to not accept credit in this day and age. Also their atm machine was down.

This is pretty good place to grab ramen in UC. It’s close to campus, so it’s definitely a great spot for students to come if they’re craving a nice hearty bowl of ramen. The place is very modern and trendy upon walking in. The layout is nice, and they definitely keep the place clean, which is a huge plus for me. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen, which is made with pork bone broth and comes with chashu pork, bamboo shoots, kikurage, and ginger. Overall, I thought the ramen was pretty good! I definitely had better tasting broth but their broth is pretty satisfying also. It’s not too fatty, which I actually prefer in my ramen broth but it could be a little more flavorful. The noodles were good though! I’m glad I decided to give this place a try. Definitely will be coming back to satisfy my ramen cravings!
