Dropped off several dresses, including my wedding gown, skirts, shoes. 10 items in total. Never received any payment, although they confirmed they sold items.

This is a small store so you may or may not find something to suit you. I think the best way to approach shopping here is with an open mind. I didn’t come here expecting to find anything in particular & I found a great sweater in the perfect shade of pink for only $ 6. I love that sweater!

The men’s selection here covers the entire spectrum from hideous to hidden gems: * The mustard yellow double-breasted suit? I’ll pass. * An intriguingly-priced($ 30) Brooks Brothers navy blazer with no discernible stains or other damage? I’ll consider it. * A brown 11-wale corduroy Giorgio Armani blazer for $ 120(with discount)? I’ll buy it! Sophisticated Seconds is worth browsing. You never know when you’ll spot a piece you just need to own, at a surprisingly affordable price.

In the arena of consignment shops, I play Caesar on 2 very basic criteria: Inventory and seller relations. As both a buyer and a seller here, I have had some hit and miss experiences that make me feel like holding a thumbs up AND a thumbs down at the same time. Their stock is not ALWAYS the most current; cuts of denim are maybe 30% stylish, jacket shapes range from 80’s to now. Which, some people are very into 80’s right now… but I had my fill. Send in the tigers for that Thriller jacket. It takes a fair scrounging of patience to navigate the small shop — the amount of consignment they accept is too much for the tiny space, and if they were more discerning to begin with they would have a stronger, more concise body of pieces. And me, in my toga and laurel wreath crown, would govern the collection with an iron fist: «No, this Cosby sweater is not good enough for us to accept — Out with ye!» And AS a seller, I have been surprised with their choices in acceptance and denial; I know my labels, and I know the value of brands and vintages. In their hiring practices, label value knowledge should be at the forefront, as assessing the offerings from sellers is their business. But some of the accepted items should be burned. Then again, there are great finds in stock and many reasons to both buy and sell here. However, they seem to be a bit disorganized when it comes to keeping track of the seller accounts. They still owe me my consignment check from 2 years ago. I will sell to them again, as they are the closest consignment shop to my house, and when I do I will call them on the monies due, as they DO have records. All hail the empowered Empress! Another plus: clothes and shoes aren’t the only offerings. Greeting cards, sheets, random knick knacks and bric a brac — jewelry, bags, hats — you can even get dish sets. Chimes? yes. um… whatever else you were thinking? yes. Olive wreaths? I think I saw some. WARNING: hours are strange and random. they close and open at will, not in reference to the sign on the door. So me, in my toga, shall read the decree from my chariot: all hail — sometimes — and when unfortunate fashions are seized, they shall be lashed and sent to the gladiators! Because the gladiator sandals are horrendous and this will make for an appropriate and terrible outfit and much entertainment! And they shall all perish in a frenzy of tigers!(i can make fun because i bought this toga there… WHAT? it’s yves san laurent…)

I stumbled upon this one, since its’ right by one of our brunch stops-ANTS PANTS Café. So after brunch, we walked in, cute little spot, ecclectic merchandise, & again my brunch buddy found somethings in here, not I. They do have some cute things, in back, jeans, denim. find some good steals, just not usually my luck, but go back. definitely worth coming by again. From shoes, bags, belts, nice vintage things

I stopped in to Sophisticated Seconds yesterday to set an appointment to potentially consign some clothing on behalf of a client and really enjoyed the merchandise offered and thought that the display was wonderful. The clothing goes up to size 18, I am currently a 16 so this is great. There are also hats, handbags, scarves, jewelry, shoes, and menswear. I definitely want to stop back when I have a little more time as I really enjoy buying secondhand knowing that it doesn’t contribute to global warming and sweatshop labor. I am told that their location on Sansom is larger and hope to check that out sometime as well.
