I second the comment about the poor customer service. My first impression of the place was that it was a front for a crime organization used for money laundering — due to the lack of professionalism of the clerk(I’m assuming the owner — with an eastern European accent). All of his tools seem to be covered in grime or rust of some kind — which he seems to think is no big deal. He also acts like asking for a receipt is a huge inconvenience(they only operate in cash and hand written carbon-copy receipts). Aside from that he is also generally and consistently rude. Thus my overall impression is that he doesn’t really care whether he has customers or sells tools.

I generally always try to support local family-run businesses, but this store lacks customer service and their selection is pretty poor. We live close by, and this store would be the most convenient hardware store for us to shop at, but we have decided that we won’t be returning. We have tried shopped here a few times, and each time we either can’t find what we’re looking for or we are unhappy with our purchase. Our final shop was when we went here to quickly grab zip ties. However, when we got home and tried to use them, almost all of them broke! We brought them back and informed the owner of our dis-satisfaction, and he agreed that they were poor quality, but would not let us return them. So now, we walk a few more blocks and go to Rittenhouse Hardware, who we have been super happy with!

Great place for quick key-duplication, sundry paint and weathersealing for apts in the Grad Hosp area, 4points just off South St. And masking and duct tape to help cure the ills of all downtown living, of course!

South Square Hardware is a little store managed by the owner of the Balkans Restaurant next door. Its not very large, but its cheap and convenient for anyone living in the Graduate Hospital area.
