University Thriftway

This Thriftway got mad love for its poncho selection back in 2002, when I was stranded in a West Philly rainstorm — or a squall, as «The West Philly Pirate» (those who know, know) might say.
Today, it’s a full service discount supermarket with everything but a bakery. They have a nice parking lot, and always seem to have spots right in front on Walnut. This is great when you’re grabbing party goods, cause you can get your beer across the street. The cashiers are always bickering at one another, it’s quaint. This is a great, affordable alternative to Super Fresh, with no wasted gourmet flavor.
