Groove on Grand is an awesome spot! If you have lived in Phoenix for a long time(10 years or more) you might remember The Paisley Violin, alas it is one of the businesses here in AZ that is no longer around. Luckily, the owners of Groove on Grand have barely changed the place, except they got rid of the bar! Which is kind of awesome, because now the central focus is what is going on in the shared space between the old bar the building that faces Grand and the pre-war bungalows that face the rear of the building. When this was Paisley, the bungalows: Paisleytown, were a cool aspect to the bar. However they were not part of the establishment. I had always heard they were rented to local artists as studios, don’t know the truth of that urban legend. At GoG, they are most definitely renting out the spaces! The interior of the old bar is IB2 Chocolate and an excellent, well-lit art space with restrooms. The patio features table and a fire-pit surrounded by a catwalk of sorts that allows access to the five buildings that were Paisleytown(I have heard that they were POW housing at one point, also urban legend), Currently all of the buildings are occupied with a bar(the Red House Pub), a one seat hair salon(Kuztoms…I believe), there is an artisan eyeglass maker moving in, as well as other business that were not open when I was there. This is exactly what Grand Ave needs! A community centered location with local business filled with people that give a shit about the history and excellence that Grand should have. Kudos!
