I first saw The Coffee Joint a few months back when I happened to be driving along Deer Valley Road for some reason. I filed it in the memory bank as a place I’d like to try. I recently had reason to be in the area around coffee time(Emissions Test just down the road, no lines, no one knows about this new one!). Of course, we figured we’d have to wait in the car for a bit, so we decided to get some coffee for our wait. The Coffee Joint is located in a industrial strip center(right next to a char-broiled chicken place). I’d imagine most of the business is from DV Airpark area workers since the nearest coffee place is at least 2 miles away(I think). The interior is pretty small, maybe three total tables. There seemed to be a plentiful selection of pastries, but I didn’t check the prices. The one odd thing was that there were a lot of advertisements all over the place for Roaring Lion energy drink, which appears to be a competitor to Red Bull. But they still served Red Bull, so not sure what that was about. Anyways, I ordered a Caramel Frappé. Which is basically a frappacino. I had recently had frappé type drinks at Coffee Bean and Starbucks, and I gotta say, this one blew both of those out of the water. Blended well, nice caramel flavor, just a very good tasting drink. The wife had a latte, which she liked also. If the Coffee Joint was within a mile of my house/work, I would imagine this would be my go-to coffee shop. Unfortunately, it may be just a bit too far for a ‘run and get some morning lattes while breakfast is cooking’ kind of place, especially when you consider that there are no less than five ‘name-brand’ coffee shops closer than Coffee Joint. Maybe I’ll have the discipline to try it some morning to see. Four stars, I will be back.
