Ole Smoky Moonshine

This place was a sure treat for us after having to sit for 1 ½ hours in traffic on the main road. Black Cherry was my favorite, then the Apple Pie (the Strongest of the two Apple Pies) and then the Maraschino Cherries just in case you want to grab a few bottles for a sister. We almost missed it, but luckily I was able to pull the HanGer card and we pulled over for some food. Which somehow (Wink. Wink.) lead to Moonshine baby!
Have your ID out if u want free samples. Then just stand at the counter as your host tells you a little bit about each flavor, as he or she pours your free samples. We were given 10 – 12 different kind to taste.
They had different «Proofs» of the Moonshine samples. They went up to 100 Proof. I thought the Blue Flame was the best and strongest. The White Lightning tasted like gasoline. My favorite sweet treat was the Black Cherry, then the Cherries soaked in Moonshine and my least favorite «Sweet» was the Maple. Although, I can see myself adding a little of the Maple to some Butter Pecan Syrup and pouring it over my Chicken and Waffles. But that’s some of my «Fat Girl I’sh!». Don’t try that if you’re headed to work. I also thought that the strongest version of the Apple Pie was the best with the second falling under more of a «Sweet» than «Strong» taste. They had a Creamy White Moonshine that was like A Kahlua but I didn’t like it at all. It was my least favorite «Strong». The Margarita flavor was a good balance of «Sweet» and «Strong», so I would purchase a bottle of it. And we also tried a Hunch Punch «Strong» that I felt somewhat neutral about. I would not but it for myself, but another taste won’t kill me either.
I think Jason or Josh was our second host. He was much better than the girl that served us the first time. But both were pretty good and entertaining.

This is a cool place to get free moonshine tastings. The location amid an outdoor mall was nice. There was a band playing just outside which led to a fun vibe. Yes, the bottles are $ 20-​$ 30 but we got this awesome deal that if you bought one, you get a gift pack with lemon moonshine and a mason jar with spout for $ 10. Great deal. We ended up with two gift packs after buying two bottles and also got another free gift. Plus, they gave my husband a 10% military discount! Must stop again for moonshine!

Kind of pricey. Store wasn’t as friendly as the Gatlinburg location. Staff was also kind of slow checking us out.

Tourist trap! But maybe I know what real moonshine taste like and would rather buy from a good ol boy.

This place seems to be always packed! So if you’re going for the moonshine tasting be prepared to wait at least one round. While in TN I did 3 different places for moonshine tasting and this one was by far the best. You get to try 9 of their moonshines and I basically loved every single one! The guy that gave us the samples was so quick, but still funny and entertaining. Definitely a must go!

This is a great addition to Pigeon Forge and «The Island» development area. I cannot believe no one else has reviewed it here yet. There is a second location in Gatlinburg so don’t be confused — you can visit in Pigeon Forge as well. Located between traffic light 3 and 4 it is right in the heart of Pigeon Forge.
Grab a friend and saddle up to the bar for some free mini-​shot samples. Boisterous «bar tenders» in overalls work for tips, answering questions, pouring samples in rounds, and generally keeping everyone having a good time. The moonshine comes in a huge variety of flavors and potencies. Even my 79 year old visiting uncle enjoyed some samples and left with two quarts to take back home for later «sampling». You can see the distilling facilities in the back through a screen mesh which allows the sweet aroma of the mash to come through. Though the libation is now widely distributed, there is no better place to get your jar then right here where it’s made. I recommend a visit.
