I live locally and have been to this place quite a few times. It’s always clean, which I think is very important for a sushi place, the food is great, and the service is pretty standard. I’ve never been blown away by the service here, but they do a fine job. My favorite dish is the Island roll. I highly recommend it!

Happy Sashimi is my second favorite sushi place in the area. Very nice employees and great food.

For lunch on a Tuesday, I’d say Happy Sashimi was great! The negative critiques seem to focus on service & while the waiters/waitresses do play a role in the overall experience, I personally don’t put That much weight on service alone. We are here for food! Parking– plenty of parking, but not necessarily right in front of the restaurant. Walking off the calories is a perk imo. Layout/décor– This might be way off but Happy does have a dance room feel to it somehow. Maybe it’s the square padded wall in the back that gives off that vibe, plus the dim lights, tinted windows. Cleanliness– No spots of questionable materials anywhere for us! Food service– the wait was not longer than expected. We got a calamari appetizer & happily waited on our rolls. No complaints! Food– we started off with a fried calamari appetizer with spicy sauce(the sauce was mild) & then had the Crunchy Roll & Rock n Roll. Lovely presentation of the rolls & they were delicious. My sister always raves about Happy’s quality in rolls & for that reason I decided to eat the rolls without soy sauce or wasabi, because those things often take away from the taste of the roll. They were delicious without & I’m definitely going to start cutting back on the soy/wasabi to gain more appreciation for the rolls themselves. Service from waiter– our waiter was amiable, polite, & cheerful. He gave us the recommendation for the calamari & we enjoyed it! There was a delay in filling our tea, but so what? Every time he did come to our table, he was attentive & made sure we got what we needed. Price– great! $ 33 for 2 rolls & appetizer! It was just lovely.

I love the food here but the service is so limited and SLOW. They never seem to have enough servers in the restaurant. I’m lucky to get a refill on my water. It’s takes usually over 30 minutes to get three sushi rolls… And none of them require cooking. So if you decide to come here MAKESUREYOUHAVETIME ! Order the short ribs and crunchy & A’s roll they are off the hook :)

I’m only giving this three stars because of consistency. This is a great place I love going there for lunch my problem is the food never is the same… Which makes me nervous going there because it’s such a hit or miss. I completely understand it’s hard to find good workers so maybe that was their issue. Sometimes when I order a roll it’s beautiful it’s delicious if I order the same one the next week it might not be the same…

The sushi is not the best, but if you’re a local, it’s the best around. Slightly more expensive than it should be, but not too bad. The service is a hit or miss, usually a miss. The waiters/waitresses cannot handle multiple tables well and the service gets extremely slow during a rush. I recommend going right before the dinner rush or right after — 4−5ish or after 8. I personally recommend the crunchy roll, the spicy crunchy crab with spicy mayo and unagi sauce, and the garlic edamame. Save some room for yummy frozen yogurt a few doors down at Yogurtland!

Not the best sushi for how pricey it is, but is definitely the only sushi place I’ve been to so far(I’ve been to plenty) that knows to cook a good charbroiled saba. Nice and crispy on the edges and tender on the inside with a great charcoal taste.

I used to come here when it first opened a LOT and I had been frequenting it about every other month or so. This last time tho, my ENTIREFAMILYGOTFOODPOISONING! Needless to say, I will never go back. I paid $ 89 for food poisoned food. I cannot stress enough that this place needs to lower their prices and get some sanitary cooks/chefs. We didn’t even have any thing that ha raw fish in it! Insane. And disgusting.

I always give this place a pass for being so s*#& since it’s close to home and their food is alright I guess. Anyway more than anything it’s just somewhere I’ve been since high school and it’s close. But today was just so irritating. I had a waitress I believe by the name of Karen who was completely and utterly hopeless and incapable. You do not take my order while staring at people outside not making eye contact what’s so ever. I thought oh maybe I won’t be so mad if she at least gets my f****** order correct but without fail she got it wrong. Did not apologize or anything after she was told she f****** up kept walking by and just glancing over. Another waitress had to correct the order for me she was great cleared plates and such. What our waitress seemed to be incapable of doing that apparently. The whole thing is if you’re so annoyed and unable to perform at the job you’re working then maybe you should choose another profession. Like janitor duty or McDonald’s I hear you don’t need any real experience or talent in life to work there.

I’ve come here a couple times in the past half a year or so. personally, I do not like sea food at all. but my boyfriend loves it so we come here every once in awhile to satisfy his sushi needs. for some reason we’ve always come here when it was late, maybe an hour before closing. so we’ve never had to wait for a table, but I’ve also been here when it’s ridiculously busy and had to leave because of the wait. since I don’t like sushi, I just get the teriyaki chicken plate. it’s pretty good, the sauce is different. it’s not what I typically want when I crave teriyaki, it’s a little more sweet and I like a more salty taste. they serve a lot of chicken, definitely more than I can finish. however the give barely any rice, I love eating these dishes with rice, and they only give a small bowl. I’m pretty sure they charge for more too so I never ask. my boyfriend seems to like their sushi, I’ve never heard him complain about that. the prices here are okay, a tad high, definitely expect to pay 40 $+ for two people, possibly more if all the dishes are sushi rolls. the service here, that I’ve experienced, is pretty good. it takes awhile to get a server to our table, but once we do everything goes smoothly. I can’t complain about this place, it’s located in a good area and the food isn’t half bad. I will probably find myself here again with summer coming up!

Eh. It’s a little sad how this place has bad, slow service and O-K sushi. It’s pretty mediocre and expensive. Yet I still choose to come here sometimes. Nowadays I get the Sake-don which costs about $ 14 for 7(odd number) pieces of sushi with rice. And a huge piece of lettuce. *sarcastic yay* The sushi pieces itself are quite small and poorly made. And it just takes soooooo long to get! Many times there’s been an extra 20 minute wait for any type of sushi because they’re understaffed or something. It sucks. I really don’t like coming here. Most of the time I just drive somewhere else, even if it’s further. The only reason I ever come here is because it’s more convenient for me. However I don’t recommend this place really. You’re better off driving somewhere else better too.

Horrendous service. Unless you reserve your seat. Then you get your a** kissed while every one else waits. Not cool.

SLOW. We used to come here for a few years since we live in the area, but got fed up with the slow food service. Oftentimes, it took 1.5+ hours for take-out and dining-in could take 2 hours. It doesn’t seem to be the wait staff either, so it’s hard to be upset with them. It’s the kitchen and sushi that is slow. We stopped going and now go to another place across town, and haven’t looked back. 2 stars for the food… if you ever get it.

For the price u pay and the mediocre food they give u plus being the only sushi place in Hercules you would expect the service would make up for it right no these ppl are so damn fucking slow one hour wait during dinner time whether you’re dining in or doing a phone order. Idk what happened to this place it just keeps going down maybe the old chef left or there are lack of chefs all the new waitresses are freaking noobs now and they look like girls that just came out of Pinole high school and act as if making eye contact with customers would freaking burn their faces off or something wtf. Go somewhere else for your sushi craving cus this place just makes you pissed off at the end. P.S ORDEREDPROBABLYAT6PMITS3MINTIL7PMSTILLWAITINGONMYFOODAS I WRITETHISREVIEWIMFUCKINGHANGRYRN

I aways see this place whenever I drop by Trader Joe’s with the family, but I was always skeptical of going in because of the rating on Unilocal, but when I was reading the reviews, it seemed like most people thought the food was good, and it was the service that prompted them to give the low stars, so my husband and I decided to give it a try yesterday. Keeping in mind that this place seemed to have slow service at peak hours, we came in around 2:30pm-3:00pm, and we had a great experience. The service was awesome. My daughter is getting to the stage where she wants to try feeding herself, and she made a mess, and the staff were so great about it. We always leave 20% or more when we go out with her just cause it’s the right thing to do when you go out with kids(we know from working at restaurants in the past), but it’s always nice when the staff are extremely nice and understanding when they see food on the floor. The food came out quickly and our waitress checked on us just right. She made sure we had everything we needed. So for me service deserves 5 stars. The food was surprisingly good! I’m very picky when it comes to Japanese, and my husband and daughter and I enjoyed our food. The tempura was good, not too greasy. The ramen with tonkatsu broth came out piping hot, and it was good! Not as flavorful as other places I’ve been to, but this was good and will do. I’d definitely go back for this. The island roll was delicious as well. I thought they could’ve put a little bigger slice of sake on top, but I was spoiled at my favorite Japanese restaurant, so this one really is above average. The roll was a pretty big size compared to other restaurants. We also enjoyed their bento box. I like that they provide so much to choose from. I would definitely come again. I’m glad I came at that time, because we had a great dining experience. If service is an issue, but you like the food, maybe pick a less busy hour to dine. It definitely helped us out.

This is one of the spots my family hits up when we don’t feel like cooking. The food is consistently good, but the service can sometimes be disappointing. There isn’t anyone who stands out as being outstanding but no one has ever been rude. Solid job on the rolls and the udon is tasty.

I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki and Tempura Bento box for lunch. The service was great! My waitperson smiled and checked in often. When my drink was low he immediately offered refills. I received the Miso soup first. It was nice and hot. Some places serve it lukewarm. Not here! It had a great flavor and didn’t taste too salty. The Bento box was presented in the lovely compartmentalized red and black box. These boxes simplify life for those of us who don’t like their food to touch on the serving plate :) The chicken teriyaki taste was spot on! Grilled slivers of moist chicken with teriyaki sauce drizzled on it. I wouldn’t have minded the sauce being served on the side. The tempura came with two shrimp, a squash slice and two sweet potatoes which were very hard. A thinner slice would have been great. The batter on the tempura was decent. I’ve had it there before when it tasted better. The portion size for lunch was a lot so I didn’t finish it. I will return because it is a local spot and their food isn’t bad. They are always so friendly. Thanks
