Beware of extortion pricing!
I called yesterday to have some code-​cut keys made. Nothing special, just some Kwikset KW1 cuts. To my shocking surprise, they wanted $ 20 EACH for them! I needed 4 code-​cut keys ($ 80), plus another 17 duplicates. I didn’t bother to ask the price at that point. But I’ll guess $ 3\ea.
I called around to other locksmith’s. After 20 or so calls, I ultimately found 2 other locksmith’s in the Pittsburgh area that will do them. Those two wanted $ 3 each and $ 3.50 each for the keys. While I realize what I wanted isn’t a «common» every day request from a locksmith, it doesn’t take much more time than a simple key copy. Maybe a minute a key.
It appears to me that B&P knows there are few places that can /​will do these types of keys, and as such, they’re price gouging on it. I’m glad I spent the extra 10 minutes calling around. That 10 minutes saved me $ 64 by not paying B&P’s extortion pricing. On top of the pricing, the person that answered the phone was incredibly rude. I will never give them my business again. The locksmith I found not only gave me a great price, but also hand delivered them to our facility as well!
