It’s alright. It’s frustrating that they don’t take anything but cash. I’m not fond of the flavors-it’s just ordinary ice cream.

Taste: 4 stars if you like light ice cream, 3 stars if you like creamy, milky ice cream. I still liked the refreshing and home-made-feel of it. What ruined my experience was the attitude of the server. Service: 1 star. I’ve never seen an ice cream store(especially, a local home-made ice cream store) that limits the number of samples you can get. Plus, the server kept changing her words — first, we didn’t know there was a limit. And she said each person gets three samples, but when I asked for the third, she said she already gave us more than enough because each person is limited to two. I felt like I was forced to make a decision without knowing what I wanted. Basically, you try two and if you are not convinced by either, you have to pick other flavors randomly. If you offer a limited number of samples, please make it clear upfront(make a big sign or something) instead of making customers feel like they are begging for samples.

I only wish this place was closer to home… Delicious homemade ice cream. Unique flavors like White Russian. The waffle cones are quite tasty as well. Beware, it’s cash only, however there is an ATM on site.

They have a variety of flavors, but I always resort to cookies & cream. It has a stronger milky-taste than other stores/brands which makes it oddly addicting. The employee is also really nice about letting people try samples. The only downside is that it’s cash only.

All I gotta say is birthday cake. I went to school nearby and I remember coming here all the time for their homemade birthday cake ice cream. I think it had chunks of cake, sprinkles, and icing in the ice cream. I remember it quite fondly.

What sets Dave & Andy’s apart is you can taste the homemade-ness of their ice cream. Every time I visit Pittsburgh, this and Wafflelonia would be my go-to dessert places. If it’s your first time here, get their birthday cake flavor. It’s ice cream with sprinkles and cake bits packed in cream. I’d take this over a birthday cake any day.

We decided to come here after a quite heavy and salty lunch. Nothing cuts all those saltiness like a homemade scoop of ice cream. The moment you enter, you are just overwhelmed by the great smell of ice cream. I decided to order vanilla(I know boring), but it was tasty, I mean really tasty. It was just so buttery and creamy, and the after taste was even better. You could totally tell that their ice creams were freshly made. We decided to be creative and make our own affogato, so we went to this coffee place right across the street(I would rather not name the place), and ordered a shot of espresso and poured it over the ice cream. It was heavenly! I would totally suggest doing this, if you are reading this review. Any way, even though I only tried one flavor I feel like people at Dave & Andy’s know what they are doing! The reason that I’m giving them 4 stars is because the atmosphere inside is a bit frowzy, and they only accept cash.

Cool and ever changing flavors. But the texture leaves something to be desired. It’s very icy. Especially if you get the yogurt or sugar-free variety. Also, be careful with their spoons. They are incredibly sharp and are also known to split lips.

After learning a year or two ago that Waffalonia uses Dave and Andy’s ice cream, I bookmarked this establishment on Unilocal.I always enjoyed the ice cream piled high on my waffle and wanted to try the ice cream at the actual shop. On a cool summer evening after wandering around Phipps Conservatory, my family and I decided to check it out. The line was very long with probably at least 30 people ahead of us. However, the tantalizing smell of the freshly prepared waffle cones kept us in line. As we gradually inched forward in line, we entered the shop. The appearance is well worn, with children’s drawings hanging and minimal seating — old diner-style chairs — to accommodate the large mass of people. Most seemed to just purchase ice cream and either eat it right outside or continue walking around Oakland instead of selecting a seat inside in the tight and stuffy space. Finally, it was my turn to order, and I selected a waffle cone filled with birthday cake and cookie dough ice cream. The birthday cake had lots of sprinkles and cake interspersed in the white ice cream while the cookie dough was filled with large, chunky pieces of delectable cookie dough. Yum! My husband ordered the salted caramel ice cream and the ginger. The salted caramel was very disappointing. Though it was rich and creamy, I believe that at least 3x too much salt was used. The ice cream was so salty that I thought it was inedible on the first bite, while my husband attempted eating a good portion of the serving before throwing out. Thankfully, his«risk» selection — the ginger — was out of this world delicious. It had just the right balance of creamy sweetness and spicy ginger tang. Overall, we had a really fun time trying Dave & Andy’s. I can’t wait to come back here again!

If you want to get the customers drooling before they even get up to the counter, make sure you are making the most aromatic waffle cones you can imagine, and you’ll have your customers hooked. It certainly worked for me. Oh, and have a nice variety of traditional and innovative flavors too, at reasonable prices. I got to sample several flavors besides the one I eventually ordered, which was kahlua and cream, but my favorite was the pumpkin pie. This is no doubt one of those places at which every other local restaurant scorns, because I bet folks come here for their dessert.

3.5 Stars The ice cream was cold and good, but nothing amazing. It lacked a wow factor, but was smooth, creamy enough and hard. The mint chocolate chip was low fat and low sugar so it didn’t have much taste. It’s better than chainstore ice cream but not so good that I would go out of my way for it. The ice cream store itself is nondescript, and not that nice inside.

The ice cream here is pure gold. They always try new flavors and the experiments are pretty awesome. Stuff like«Kahlua-cream» is something you won’t find anywhere else and it’ll keep you returning to this one-of-a-kind establishment. This store is also totally a plus for everything along the alley cuz it draws customers with the wonderful smell of the fresh cones they’re always making. Dave & Andy’s is one of the best ice cream stores I’ve ever been to and while the inside of the store is uninviting for seating, there’s really no reason to be sitting inside. If it’s nice enough to get D&A’s, it’s nice enough to be gallivanting outdoors. Last time I was here, I got a Kahlua and Cream ice cream float with root beer, and while that tasted really good, it was a little messy to carry around. I would’ve preferred it if they created the whole float instead of provide the bottle to pour into the float yourself. Still, taste is vital, and Dave and Andy’s has it down.

Such a great little ice cream shop. The smell of cooking waffle cones greets you half a block from the open door to the shop – and the door is almost always open because of the line out the door. The flavors are creative but they also have enough standards that keep even the pickiest person happy and old favorites to keep people coming back. They have vanilla, chocolate, chocolate belltower malt, cookies and cream, etc. I ordered the coffee cookies and cream and oatmeal cookie raisin on a waffle cone. The ice cream was very tasty, flavorful with plenty of mix-ins without being too sweet or losing the integrity of the intrinsic ice cream base. I thought the waffle cone was a little brittle and crumbly without the satisfying crunch I am used to. Service was very good. The staff were all friendly, happy to offer samples, efficient, and accommodating. For 4 small ice creams, and two children’s cones, the total came out to around $ 15

What I love about Dave & Andy’s is the experience. It’s not the best ice cream I’ve ever had, but it’s a super cute place with good ice cream. You walk in and the smell of house-made waffle cones is amazing. It’s reminiscent of an old school ice cream shop. I recently had a tasty hot fudge sundae with fudge brownie and almond chocolate ice cream, topped with hot fudge, whipped cream, almond bits, and two maraschino cherries. I would highly recommend this combination, with the suggestion of putting the hot fudge between the two kinds of ice cream because I think that would get it to be nice and melt-y. You know what I mean?

When in Pittsburgh I get my Dave & Andy’s fix. What’s so good about Dave & Andy’s? First off– it’s local, homemade ice cream. I don’t usually eat ice cream, but when I do I want it to be made with love– or whatever else goes into making an awesome local product. Local just tastes better to me for whatever reason. They have many unique or non-traditional flavors. On my most recent visit, I had a mix of pumpkin pie ice cream and caramel apple yogurt. It tasted like Thanksgiving in a cup! According to a sign in the store, the yogurt is 94% or 96% fat free. I have no idea how that’s possible, but that’s awesome since the yogurt was almost as flavorful as the ice cream. I also liked that they let me try many different little samples before I made up my mind. Picking the right flavor combo isn’t easy, but when it’s done right it makes all the difference in the world. Dave & Andy’s is good stuff.

Ginger ice cream is superbly creamy with satisfying chunks of crystallized ginger laced throughout the perfectly sized scoop. The chocolate is milky and delicious. A single cup with two flavors costs $ 3.00. Happy camper.

My waistband is sad that this place is so close to school. I went here twice to grab some ice cream after class, and I was pretty satisfied with my choices both times! There may have been some second thoughts walking in(ice cream after pizza lunch???), but there were none walking out. I picked vanilla caramel almond the first time, and kahlua cookies & cream the second. The former was definitely my favorite. + There’s a nice amount of mix-ins for each flavor + Waffle cones are delicious(although thinner than I’ve had before) + Small size waffle cone for $ 3.75(including tax) was more than enough for me + The M&M at the bottom is cute(won’t stop drips on hot days though) If you’re around Oakland, definitely give Dave & Andy’s a try!

D & A’s is my go-to place for ice cream in Oakland. Although it’s not the best ice cream I’ve ever had, they have the best regular non soft-serve ice cream I’ve had in PGH to date. Like other reviewers, I definitely recommend getting the waffle cone – it’s delightfully crunchy, light, and sweet, not to mention freshly-made. In terms of flavors, I’d recommend the chocolate chip cookie dough and the birthday cake. I wouldn’t call myself a huge cookie dough ice cream fan, but I really enjoyed their version, due to the high cookie dough: ice cream ratio. I was skeptical about the birthday cake flavor, but I tried it out of curiosity, and it was great! It has sprinkles, frosting, and cake all mixed together. Try a sample if you’re uncertain(that’s what I did), but I think you’ll like it! 4.5 stars.
