Henry Grasso Co is a Pittsburgh institution and has been in business since 1938. Back in the day Larimer Avenue in East Liberty was full of Italians and this is where they shopped for their meats. Don’t let its size fool you, this tiny little shop has lots to offer. Some of the meats they offer are mild and hot Italian sausage, Capicollo, meatballs, chicken tenders and beef hot dogs. They also offer Swiss, American, grated Romano and aged Provolone cheeses. They even offer imported and domestic cheeses and groceries like Bellezza oil and extra virgin olive oil. My family and I have had their delicious sausages many times at a friend of the families annual Memorial Day cook out and had to make a visit for ourselves. We got a HUGE bag of frozen meatballs, fresh cut bacon, Capicollo and some provolone cheese. Later that same day my wife made some meatballs hoagies and let me just tell you, those were some of the best meatballs I’ve ever had in my life! Being that I grew up in this neighborhood and there were tons of businesses like Nabisco and Stagno’s Bakery that aren’t around anymore I’m glad to see that Henry Grasso is still in business.
