I was so excited when this pizza shop opened up a few blocks away from my house, and months later, I still gush about how good it is. I agree with the previous poster in one respect. When they opened up, things were a bit rocky, both service and quality were touch and go. But let me tell you, for the last 6 – 8 months, they have been my go-to lazy food joint. My favorite? The Mio Classico. The pizza dough for all of their pizzas actually seems to be made in house. And trust me, it doesn’t taste like the Sysco-delivered type of dough that other local pizza places rely on. Their sauce is excellent– it tastes fresh, balanced, with just the right amount of tang that you hope for in a pizza sauce. Topping it off are the fresh mozzarella rounds and shredded basil… Can you tell that I fantasize about this pizza? I broke form just once and ordered the Sicilian-style pizza(thick crust, different sauce, regular mozzarella), but was unimpressed. It was just an average pizza, and way too salty. But did I mention the Mio Classico? I usually order it with the garlic breadsticks, which use garlic infused olive oil and fresh garlic for the flavor. Also excellent, and NOTHING like breadsticks you get from other joints in town. They’re doughy. I love ‘em! If you are looking for a type of pizza that will remind you of college– cheap, greasy, mediocre– this isn’t for you. This is definitely a more adult, step-up version. If you’ve ever had(and enjoyed) Il Pizzaiolo from Dormont, then this is up your alley. No, it isn’t as crispy(no brick oven), nor as gourmet, but the same spirit is there, and at half the price. I’m telling you, this place is wonderful. Really wonderful.

I really wanted to like this pizza. I haven’t had great experience with local pizza joints in Pittsburgh, and was really looking forward to a delicious pizza with high quality ingredients so close to my house. We’ve ordered pizza twice now — the first was the day after they opened. They seemed a little disorganized, and the pizza was only fair, but I figured they were just getting settled. I vowed to try again. I wanted to love this pizza! The pizza today was also sub-par. Crust not thin enough and uneven and uncooked in the thicker parts. Sauce was better than your typical Pittsburgh pie, but not amazing. Maybe a New York style pizza in Pittsburgh is a dream I need to give up.
