Food was excellent… Our server Nelson went out of his way to accommodate us… The portions were extremely generous… Guacamole was the best I’ve had out anywhere… Can’t wait to come back!

I was a fan of Agave when they were on West Henrietta road, and my family was excited to see that they reopened in Victor. They are finally back to their normal menu so don’t let the name«express» fool you. When they first opened it was a limited menu, but now they are back to normal. The food is great, and this is our favorite go-to place for for a sit down Mexican meal. Everything we’ve had was great. My favorite is the Chili Relenos. They are awesome. If you ask for the«really hot sauce», keep in mind that it is HOT. it was good, but all it took was a dab of my fork to spice up my food.

Food is average, service is pathetic. Owner has ZERO customer service skills. On a dead day not a single person in restaurant I ordered takeout for 5 people. Was given food for four people. When I addressed issue I was told lucky I checked the order. Owner was speechless, almost cold. I asked for hot sauce I was denied. With so many options I dislike restaurants with poor service. Sad I will not be returning but I am sure a new restaurant will take over soon. –unhappy customer

We were apprehensive about trying Agave after seeing the disparity in reviews on here and on tripadvisor, however we had a coupon and decided to try it. This IS a small place and easy to miss(look for Subway sign since they share the same bldg.). The interior is nice, cozy, 6 or 7 booths and a small bar area. From our booth we couldn’t see into the bar so I don’t know what or if they serve alcohol since we didn’t order any. The server was quick and attentive, very pleasant. The complementary chips were warm and fresh, salsa was good and as noted in a previous post came with a carafe to refill the dipping bowl. I ordered a combo plate(the Mucho Grande) and my wife ordered a pineapple chicken fajita. The food came within a reasonable amount of time. The fajita was served sizzling hot and in a hollowed out half of a pineapple, pineapple pieces were sautéed with the rest of the dish and it was delicious. It also came with warm soft tortillas, refried beans, guac and greens. The Mucho Grande lived up to it’s name, 3 chili relleno, 3 soft tortillas, and a burrito. Also had refried beans and greens. Very filling(a challenge to finish) and quite good. The prices were very reasonable, the restaurant was clean and the staff was responsive. This isn’t the best Mexican food to be found in Rochester but it’s very acceptable and I would recommend it. As to the negative reviews I’ve noted, one on tripadvisor in July stated the restaurant had closed, yet the reviews posted after that seemed to be(mostly) positive. I’d hypothesize this restaurant either was sold and reopened or «rebooted».

First, this restaurant is under new management, so I would take any older reviews with a grain of salt or possibly a splash of hot sauce. We had a really great meal. My wife and I split chicken fajitas and enchiladas mexicana. Both had really fresh flavors. The guacamole was delicious and the chicken was well seasoned. My kids both had the kid’s quesadilla and taco combo. I was shocked that my daughter, who typically lives on pb&j, ate almost all of the taco. There went my lunch plan. Both a plus and a minus, they don’t have their liquor license, but let you carry in wine or beer. There’s a liquor store practically next door, so bring your own bottle or support another local business. Bottom line: really good food and reasonable prices.

For a Rochester area Mexican place I give high ratings. Food is highly satisfying. Nothing out of the ordinary as far as Mexican, but what really stood out was the chille pablano, above average.

Redemption was found on my second visit. The waitress was very nice and attentive. The owner/chef(perhaps) kept making his smiley face seen. Our chips were warm n crisp, I adore the salsa service with an additional little carafe so you can pour more yourself. I love a chili relleno, I loved their chili relleno. It was seeded, it was stuffed with appropriate cheese. It was not breaded or battered. It was freaking good. I also tried the tres amigos tacos, one pork(best texture, best flavor), beef(ground not much flavor), chicken(shredded, a little seasoning, a little dry).

I would give this 0 stars if I could, the service and food were awful. 4 of us went in for lunch and after waiting for over 45 minutes for our food, the server brought out one dish at a time 5 minutes apart only to find my order was never put in. My order was removed from our bill and given to me to go, however this did not help the fact that we were now late returning to work and I still hadn’t eaten. As for the food the salsa tasted like pizza sauce mixed with taco seasoning if this wasn’t bad enough we later found that the burritos were also smothered with this awful concoction. Needless to say I would not return here and I suggest the same to others.

I get excited to try different Mexican places because it’s one of my favorite cuisines but Agave was a another disappointment. The food was bland and forgettable. We ended up ordering a number of things to try off the a la carte menu and weren’t impressed. Our server was in training so I’ll give her a break on the service but when she came over to the table the first time she didn’t take our drink order which was strange.

We came in at 5:45 on a Saturday. Around 6:00 we got our chips. At 6:15 we got our water. It’s now 6:33 and we still don’t have our food. This is in no way the waitresses fault – there was only one with experience and one trainee on duty, and the place was full to capacity. Still, heads up. A 45 minute wait for food is no bueno. The chips were hot, fresh and tasty. The salsa was… I’m guessing mostly Ragu tomato sauce? Palatable though; I have eaten Ragu right out of the jar with wonder bread so no big fault there. The pasty guacamole tasted like the stuff you get in a pouch at any grocery store. Palatable, though. The food arrived at about 6:40 and saved the day. I had the Special Agave: a big chicken fillet and fillet of fish topped with a creamy, zesty ranchero sauce. Beans and rice were delish and there was also an ample guacamole salad. They forgot to bring me corn tortillas though, and my girlfriends dish was close to what she ordered, but not quite: she had ordered the fish, shrimp and scallop fajitas and they only brought her shrimp and scallops. Still tasty, though. I don’t know if we will be rushing back to eat here on the weekend. An almost hour wait for food is a pretty big restaurant foul, and it could mess with your plans. Takeout or dining during the week is a possibility though – the food is mostly good and the prices are reasonable.

So the building is odd, it’s not marked very well as you can see from my pictures. Inside is really nice but very small. The food was good and very quick, and they were very busy at lunch. I had the Chorizo Cheese dip and it was spicy with a creamy cheese.

Way overpriced. Tiny portion. One taco and some rice. 7.99. Tiny cup of chorizo dip $ 6.99. Definitely should have hit up Moes

Stopped in last weekend for a meal and it was a very positive experience. The waiter was mostly knowledgeable and the kitchen staff was able to answer a few other questions for us. The restaurant is small, but nice. Service was always keep between the two waiters. We started with the chips and salsa … the chips were warm and appeared freshly made. The salsa was more of a think style(no chunks) which my husband prefers. We also ended up adding the guacamole which was phenomenal but a little small for the price, we would still order it again tho it was that good. I had the carne asada which was very good and flavorful. My husband had the enchiladas supreme which was a very large portion(he only ended up eating half) … he enjoyed his but preferred the beef enchilada over the other 3 in the sampler. We then decided to try 2 of the deserts … the Churros and the Xanga. My husband loved the Churros … very flavorful and soft. I had the Xanga(its kind of like a deep fried cheesecake burrito) which was also very good but didnt quite look like the picture(the picture seemed to include a scoop of ice cream). Next time I think we’d want to try the Mexican Cheesecake. Overall the food was good, the restaurant itself was nice and the pricing very reasonable. We will return next time we’re in the mood for Mexican.

Had a burrito as a takeout order and it was really good and the service was super fast. Definitely will go back in the future. I do agree with previous comments that the salsa could use some serious improvement.

Oh no… no, no, no. Take it from me — you do not want to eat here. A couple of friends and I went out to dinner last night and although the wait and cook staff were friendly and helpful, the food for me was a complete disaster. When we sat at the table, we were presented with chips and salsa, and although the salsa had a little bit of a kick to it, the chips tasted stale, old, and sour of all things. I ate them for my love of all things carbohydrate, but I probably should’ve saved my calories with the way I’m feeling today. For dinner, I had the Shrimp Don Julio. All it pretty much is is one of those mixed plates for making your own soft tacos with red cabbage, shredded lettuce, sour cream, guac, refried beans, yellow rice, and tequila-cooked shrimp. The biggest problem with this dish was that the shrimp were not tequila-cooked — they were tequila-drenched. It was so alcoholic that it was as if they poured two or three shots of tequila on the shrimp and didn’t bother to cook any of it off. The leftover alcohol bled into the other accompaniments making for quite a boozy dinner. By the end of the night, I was definitely feeling my blood alcohol content levels increasing. Outside of that, none of the food had anything else worthwhile going for it. I really don’t know where the positive reviews are coming from, unless it’s just because of how positively bland and/or sour and/or boozy everything was. I will not be back. Although the Mexican options in Rochester are limited, I can say for sure that this one takes the cake for me at being the worst.

They over charged by adding a $ 10 tip on the credit card statement(and it was for take-out) so keep an eye on them. When I called they gave me the run around and never got back to me. Don’t eat here!

I couldn’t disagree more with the bad reviews. I’ve eaten there three times now. Yes, there’s no ambiance, yes the food appearance isn’t anything special. Look, it’s mostly a takeout place(though I choose to sit there) and the food tastes great. The chips taste fresh. And the salsa is fantastic. It definitely doesn’t have tobasco in it, the review who claimed this has no taste buds whatsoever. Everything I’ve ordered has tasted great and I left satisfied. I moved recently from Los Angeles and this is the first place in Rochester that seems more towards an authentic Mexican place than standard American Mexican. Also, they have home made horchata, tastes fantastic. Other places in Rochester make it with a powder.

«Meh…» just about sums up my experience here. This is a take out place, but you wouldn’t know until you pulled into the parking lot. It has zero ambiance. The menu is the smallest I’ve ever seen for a Mexican restaurant. Tacos are not on the menu. I had one of the burritos. The peppers and onions were raw. The chicken was dry. The highlight of the meal was the guacamole. The rice tasted burned. The beans were flavorless. The only taco on the menu is the kid’s menu. My daughter had that. I tried a bite. The meat was mealy. The soft tortilla was stale. The chips came with the meal and weren’t worth eating. The salsa was good. All of the drinks are by the bottle. The owners should be happy that there is no competition in Bushnell’s Basin, Pittsfird, or Victor. Otherwise, they might be in trouble. The salsa and guac earned them a second star. Otherwise I only would’ve given them one.
