Locals bar; Everything you’d expect from a place where people from Placerville hang out. I always liked this place, but it’s quickly become one of my favorites after I heard the story about when two locals, Thomas Kinkade and Conrad Montgomery, got into a scrap over a woman named Adele in 1994. Ask around, apparently it’s quite a well known tale amongst the patrons.

Wish I could give 0. the woman working. Whine the bar started pounding on the bathroom door while I was using the restroom and screaming for me to come out. when I came out she grabbed me and said get out and drug me by my arm and threw me out. not sure if she was mistaken me for someone else but I had never been here and basically got attacked and thrown out while going to the bathroom. for absolutely no reason. When I asked why and the whole bar started saying why are u throwing her out what’s going on??? She had no reason and just said I can’t be there. I’m a pretty blonde girl so the only reason I can think is she hates good looking girls… it was the worst experience I’ve had at a bar because of the people working there… worst bartender I have ever met. This was about 6 months ago or maybe more but I just got Unilocal and still think of this horrible experience often since I live down the street from the place. Hopefully the horrible lady is fired by now but obviously I haven’t gone back to find out.

Just a little dive bar with all the things you’d expect to find at a dive bar: Cool bartender, décor from the 70’s, older women drinking alone, young dudes pissed off at the world, oh, and a pool table. Not a terrible spot to grab a beer, but not a place I would call home either.

We stop here on our way to Tahoe regularly. I dont know why… i love dive bars and I love the lil town of placerville. However, the bartenders are so blah … unobservant and unfriendly. Stopped in today for a couple beers. No smile, no greeting. nothing, just 2 beers. After they were gone and about 15 min went by without even offering us another round, we left. Of course no goodbye, have a nice day, nothing. Ill probably skip this lil bar next time and wait to get to Tahoes Whisky Dicks where everybody is always super cool!

if you want a small bar that has good bartenders, reasonably priced drinks and a friendly atmosphere try the liar’s bench. certainly not fancy — no food unless you want a bag of chips but very comfortable. pool table and darts available. smoking outside in the back.

If you’re looking for a nice local bar feel with a dive bar attitude, then this is your place, and the prices are very fair(if not cheep). To the people who have complained; People, get over yourself, it’s a bar!

Friendly staff, strong drinks, and a good mix of locals and folks passing through. Anytime I’m in placerville stopping here is a given! If you like dive bars you can’t beat the Bench.

A great place to meet chicks if you prefer women who look like Randy Johnson with no teeth.

I wish I could leave no stars. This needs John Taffers help badly. They don’t even know how to make a jack and coke… A Cosmo… A grasshopper… Etc… Half the time the bartenders are outback smoking… yup… And guests get behind the bar and start serving themselves and friends. Everyone is having a great time because it’s like having free alcohol! The drinks are so strong you can barely gag one down. The local scum is there freaking women out. Only day of the week they probably make money is Thursday karaōke which sucks… Badly… Seriously, this could be an amazing bar… But… Here we have it. a nasty, ilmanaged, shithole.

Great place if you like conversing with twacked out homeless people or perma-tweak locals. Once in a while you’ll get homeless Joe that comes in and blows the bathroom up, he will paint a Picasso masterpiece with his own feces! Great conversation piece after a hards day of work!

Best dive bar in town… and the only one open late. Just one drink you say? Never. You will almost always close out the bar. And even though you regret it in the morning, you always find yourself saying next week, «Just for one drink…» Fun Gold Rush atmosphere, cool benches, pool table, dart board, and karaōke nights.

Bar didn’t look clean, music was okay… this is not a place to hang out with girls. It seemed okay for a bunch of locals or men, some hangtown Haven stragglers wondering in off the street.

We were on one of our marathon dive bar rides and stopped into the Liar’s Bench while in Placerville. It was crowded, loud, the beer was frigging ice cold and complimented my huge pour of Patron — which was chased with a bag of Cheetos’s. The bartenders were on the ball, attentive, and took care of business. It can get kinda of tight at the bar as it is a very narrow establishment, but that’s what makes it great. There is also a patio in the back if you want to smoke. There is a pool table if you want to rack a few.

After conquering the Rubicon trail it was high time to celebrate, so the team came here to enjoy some well deserved libations. The drinks were cheap and stiff as all hell and that’s what we were looking for. The local townsfolk were something else and definitely entertaining, except for the super fat chick that thought she was the hottest thing since blow up dolls. A double nasty on the three guys who were swarming all over her like sharks on a dead whale. Yuck. Worth a drink or two if your in town and the only bar currently open in downtown Placerville.

Great local dive bar! Cheap drinks, good selection, lots of colorful locals. Very interesting snatches of conversation to be overheard. We stop here to and from snowboarding sometimes and it always provides a great little break. Supposedly it’s haunted.

The locals may not agree, but this is a necessary break on the drive from the Bay Area to Tahoe. Right downtown, just off the freeway(depending on what kind of creative road construction projects are going on) and a unique vibe. Thursday night karaōke is particularly fun, but any time is good to swing in for a tipple. I liked the place enough to buy a t-shirt. I’ll be wearing it when I drop in this Friday evening. Mention this post and I’ll have my friend buy you a drink!
