My favorite Chinese place around the area. The Tom Yum soup is spicy and filling. I’m never disappointed whether dining in or taking out. If you stay, have a fabulous tiki style drink. They are strong, so beware! They have all the basic Chinese cuisine, and they do it well, but give the Chef’s specialties portion of the menu a try. They’re delicious.

Recently, I moved to Madison, CT from RI. It’s important to keep in touch with my best friend, so we have been choosing to meet at a restaurant, at least once a month, that is halfway between us. So by chance, I looked at a map and searched Plainfield, and, lucky for us, we found an amazing jewel of a restaurant!!! Hong Kong Star Restaurant is such a wonderful place to have lunch or dinner in every way. The main point is that the food is absolutely delicious and fresh, with abundant portions. My latest outing there was yesterday, when I enjoyed the Moo Goo Gai Pan. The large amount of chicken breast, combined with all fresh vegetables, tasted delightful. Personally, I like extra onions in my fried rice, and their fried rice is the best I’ve ever tasted! Wonton soup, chicken wings, all so fresh and delicious! The service is excellent too. A beautiful young server was so polite and very prompt with any requests. While my friend and I were catching up, I was eating very slowly because I was taking so much! A young man(I believe the owner) came over to make sure everything was fine! They are very aware of their customers needs and totally aim to please. The prices are very reasonable too. Very clean and pleasant surroundings, along with the the BEST Chinese food both my friend and I have ever tasted, make it a sure bet that this is the place we will be going to every month. And between those times, I plan on taking my husband there to enjoy the delicious food, excellent service, and nice atmosphere, very often! TOTALLYRECOMMENDHONGKONGSTARRESTAURANT!!!

I’ve been ordering take out meals/quick bites from here for years, and it’s finally about time that I write a review. This is a family-owned restaurant conveniently located off the highway, that serves consistent quality food and provides attentive service. Ok let’s be honest, they make the chicken crispy and done right here! They know how to preserve the juiciness and crispiness by serving the sauce on the side. Ingenious, dare I say. Such a simple yet elusive concept to so many(glazed) fried food joints. So far I haven’t had any complaint with this restaurant, and Ill continue to support.

Somewhat more convivial than spending Christmas with my own family, for the second time that day, I spent time with a nice Chinese family who were nice enough to open their financial home for my friends and I. We found this Christmas«Star» after we sadly discovered that rural McDonald’s that hire mostly white people don’t stay open on holidays. Hong Kong Star has clean itself up a little bit since I last visited a decade or so ago. When we arrived, we were greeted by a dozen or so other fellow Christmas sojourners as well as the aforementioned family. Having a Chinese-American from New York in our party, her boyfriend and I wanted to show her how we do Chinese in Whitesville. I ordered a pupu platter for sustenance and a scorpion bowl cocktail for fun. The platter had big East coast egg rolls, chicken fingers, and teriyaki skewers, and that’s really all I ask for when in a Chinese joint that doesn’t necessarily serve actual Chinese food. The scorpion bowl, on the other hand, could have used more scorpions. We were also presented with some free entertainment in the form of the Chinese family calling the local police on a drunk older couple who were being rowdy. Yay for Christmas in rural America! Summary: Star of wonder, star of night, star of cheap Chinese food bright.

It’s okay the general t* chicken is pretty good the crab ragoons could use work. I’ve always hated that for one they are not triangles here and two the filling isn’t really sweet. It’s just blah and ducking it into fuck Saudi doesn’t help it either. But their food is okay. Between 2 – 3 star. No more deserved. Inside is much smaller than shown in the photo.

My father and I ate here and had the pupu platter for two, I know it’s not very original but we were in a rush and we thought it was a safe choice, we were wrong. First of all the service was awful our waitress acted as though she was angry that we were there and she had to wait on us. When our order arrived it looked as though the entire thing was dipped in the fryolator for two minutes, taken out, seperated then served to us, Which I’m sure it was, there was a half inch puddle of grease on the bottom of the pupu platter basket. The food isn’t expected to be great at these types of places but it should be at least edible. I could go on and on about how bad the food is but I really don’t have the time and you get the picture so in closing the food is just bad and you can do a lot better somewhere else.

I stopped here on my way home from the beach. It’s a perfect halfway point and located just off of 395 in Plainfield, CT next to the Big Y. When we arrived we were the only customers. We were seated in one of the circa 1990 booths that looks as though it hadn’t gotten a good cleaning in a while and already on the table were some fried snacks and duck sauce. After looking at the cleanliness of the booth I opted to pass on the complimentary table offerings. A few moments later our waitress came to the table and we ordered General Tao’s combo with crab rangoon’s and fried rice. Within about 5 minutes our meals arrive but unfortunately they were spare ribs and not General Tao’s. She apologized indicating she must have written the wrong letter down. 2 minutes later our meals reemerged. The crab rangoon’s were over cooked and had too little filling to be satisfying. The rice was clearly a reheat and the General Tao’s was bland and uninspired. While we ate their staff of three sat in a booth by the kitchen and all watched us eat. It was a bit weird and creepy. Perhaps I expect too much from a shopping mall Chinese restaurant but next time I’ll try a different place.

Located in the Big Y Plaza, off I-395 Exit 87, New Hong Kong Star is a casual Chinese restaurant and bar, which offers takeout and full service dining in the comfortable dining room. They offer the standard Chinese dishes and chef’s suggestions including Szechuan shrimp, Dragon & Phoenix, Fuji Duck, Chicken & Shrimp Thai Style, and more. Tom Yum Soup(Thai style) and Cold Sesame Noodle are also offered. The prices are reasonable. 28 Daily Lunch Specials($ 5.35 plus tax) served with pork fried rice & choice of soup are offered. 29 Combination Platters($ 7.95-$ 8.55) served with pork fried rice & egg roll are also offered. 4 kinds of Mini Pu Pu Platters($ 9.25-$ 9.45) are offered and add a pint of pork fried rice for $ 1 more. The«bigger» Pu Pu Platter for 2 served with pork fried rice is $ 15.50. I picked up lunch from New Hong Kong Star recently and ordered the Lunch Special 14 Shrimp Lo Mein($ 5.35 plus tax) served with Pork Fried Rice and Hot & Sour Soup. The good sized lunch portion was served in a sectioned container(keeps the main dish & fried rice separate). The lo mein dish had a mix of sprouts, onions, scallions, fresh sliced mushrooms, cabbage, and tender shrimp. The shrimp seemed not devained, but surprisingly all were clean to eat. The fried rice had tender roast pork cubes, peas, & onions in firm golden rice. The hot & sour soup had a medium spicy taste, which had eggs, tofu, shitake mushrooms, bamboo, seaweed, scallions, pepper, and pork. Overall, the lo mein and fried rice were pretty good and the hot & sour soup was exceptionally good.
