With so many options in Long Island for sushi, Kumo is my favorite. From the comfy clean feel atmosphere and the warm towels you get when you sit down. The menu is full of variety, the staff is very attentive. Kumo is the best

I really like this place and I’ve been ordering from here for about a year. delicious food and the in house experience is lovely too. better fish than other local sushi restaurants. if not for the delivery experience i would rate 5 stars .I do it via grub hub(and few times on the phone) grub hub figures out for you what is 15% or 20%(which is what a waitress/waiter is supposed to make.) I NEVER tip less than 15 even if the service was horrible. and yet their delivery guy asks me for more money every time he comes… one time i went into my wallet at gave him an additional 20%… yes 40% of the value of my order cause it was somewhat large… but c’mon! that’s rude. and I think I’d rather go back to sub par fish if I’m just gonna invite a panhandler to my door every time i order here.

I love Kumo and wish I lived closer to them. They have awesome sushi rolls and the décor is very nice as well. Highly recommended.

Sushi good. my experience fresh fish. yummy avo. my complaint: DISHONESTPROMOTIONS. DUMBSTAFF. I had been around when Kumo opened many years ago as i live across the street. Always happy with the food which is not the least expensive but not the most expensive either. About 5 years ago, i get a postcard in the mail for 10% off. i go there often and one day I go in for a takeout lunch $ 11.50 and realize i forgot the postcard. for $ 1.50 the cashier refuses to give me the discount… so i got annoyed and didnt go back there for 4 – 5 years. My grown son tells me he LOVES their sushi, so after all these years i eat there again and do a take out a month or so ago.(I eat sushi somewhere at LEAST one time every week). SO now, January 2016, i decide to pick up sushi and i have about 15 restaurants to choose from… i get a Kumo menu and I see 20% off your first online order… so i decide to order online. it reads bring any coupons etc to restaurant. so, i go to pick up order and GUESSWHAT!!! Again they dont want to honor the offer… some literally unintelligible gibberish about points and new systems and can’t do it! OMG! It’s only a $ 50 order! $ 10 for me or them… is it worth pissing off a customer??? I had finally decided to go back after 5YEARS and I get this same BS?! I spoke to the manager who frankly just wanted me away from the register so he gave me the discount after 3 minutes of arguing. I asked WHEN i could come see the owner and was told«I don’t know when the owner will be in» C’mon… you REALLY want to have ILLWILL from a local person? That’s it for KUMOAGAIN! So go here if u want decent sushi in a crowded noisy restaurant and… If you want to be treated poorly by staff, come here too. I am a marketing person I helped them with signage, advertising suggestions, donation guideline suggestions, competitive info when they first opened… but unfortunately, never told them that the customer deserves to be treated nicely. i read a few other reviews and see a common thread of rudeness and stupidity when it comes to the customer so the saying«the yellowtail(fish) STINKS from the head» is probably true. They wont see me and i will encourage my friends not to go too(my friend just had a dinner there for 40 people! not again). shame on you Kumo. If you advertise a discount, YOUBETTERHONORIT!

Still so nasty, still so rude. Placed a take out order for take out and the cashier gave a major attitude when she saw my reciept that I didnt tip for take out. When I called to complain the manager acted like he didnt speak a word of english.

One of my favorite Japanese Restaurants on Long Island located in a Plainview strip mall. Everything they serve is «fresh», and creatively presented. They also have inventive creations such as their” tuna pizza” and many others that are delicious. Their prices are at modest; it can be noisy if at capacity; they have fantastic service and great lunch specials. They also have high end cold Saki if you like the good stuff.

I was very surprised to see how packed this place was. For whatever reason I just expected this place to be another japanese restaurant in the area, but not only was it packed, I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. He had the bento box, I had the nabeyaki udon and we shared a sushi roll. Service was a bit on the slow side, understanding that it was a very busy Friday night, but still. We waited a bit longer than we should have for the food that we ordered. The sushi was delicious. We inhaled that roll so fast that I don’t even remember what it was called, but it was good. The bento box and udon were about what we expected, but the sushi left us wanting more. Happy campers we left and we will return. Service was decent, but the sushi really was that good that we want more. My only warning is to be prepared for a wait and to wait a bit for your food, but once you get it, you’ll be happy you waited.

Love this place. The food is so fresh and delish. Must haves: Soft shell crab is scrumptious. Sushi rolls are greAt. I had 2011 roll which was amazing. And an avocado bowl with spicy tuna as an app. Which was awesome. Will come back.

Food was excellent. Service was poor. I went in for lunch by myself and sat at sushi counter. I ordered the luncheon bento salmon teriyaki. Miso soup was excellent. The salad was dressed and a little watery but okay. Salmon teriyaki was perfect! Cooked exactly how I enjoy it. The sushi was excellent. So I had asked the waitress for brown rice. She brought it with white rice. She said its $ 1.50 more. I said I knew that. You told me before. But she grabbed my bento box so rudely and said I will change the white rice to brown. I asked her to please just bring me brown rice on the side so I would start eating the dumplings. She was so nasty and started talking to all the waitresses in her language about me !!! I won’t go back there even though their food was great. If service was okay they would certainly deserve 5 stars. Disappointed that they wait staff doesn’t know better than that.

Take out for Father’s Day. They have a wide selection of rolls and a good kitchen menu for those who just want Japanese. I had Sashimi Deluxe which was 20 pcs of fresh, tender fish. We also ordered Avocado salad and three other of their special rolls. All were very good and the order was ready when they promised.

Me and a friend recently visited this place, and the place was most certainly NOT crowded. There was only one other table aside from ours that was taken. The service was terrible, and let me tell you why. When we sat down, they offered us a complimentary hand towel. We maybe picked it up for one second and then then snatched it from us. They were quite rude and irritable about our drinks, and when we asked what they had, we were met with a sigh. I’m no waitress but I should think you’d be a lot more welcoming and willing to help a customer. Now, we move on to food. I asked a waitress about the beef sukiyaki and was met with another sigh, and a rude explanation of what their version of it was. So I decided to order steak teriyaki(I think, I hated the place so I don’t really care what it was). It was okay… The sauce lacked in flavour, the rice was undercooked. As we ate, as noticed in another review, they circled our table like vultures and stared at us. Now, we move on to when we went to pay. They were rather rude and disgusting as we asked for the bill. We kept track of what we bought and they overcharged us. As we paid, the waitress was rude, and the people at the computer thing were pointing at us and talking about us, and when we paid, we were shocked that when my friend said something to the lady, she gave him a rude look and snatched up our money. I can assure you, I will NEVER return to this place. And there are definitely better places with better service.

Better than average service for this type of establishment. The décor was pleasant and the quality and presentation of various dishes are far better than most chinese run Japanese cuisine themed restaurants. Definitely try the Japanese grilled squid… in fact get two of them and deal with the cholesterol levels later. Also, one must try the seafood teriyaki.. never seen such a combo of lobster shrimp and salmon…

Update: We came here a second time and the service was really rude and unfriendly. Reduced my rating from 4 to 3 because it has so far been consistently unwelcoming. They rushed us to order, coming over several times when we were clearly still reading the menu. It was 830 when we sat and they close at 10. We found out soon after ordering that it was because she wanted to sit down and eat. That’s fine but when we were looking for her wanting to get some water she was nowhere to be found. And after we saw our tuna pizza sandwich appetizer sitting at the sushi bar for 8 minutes we had to call over another waitress. Customer service is severely lacking to say the LEAST. Otherwise, really great sushi. The uni was delicious — very fresh and melts in your mouth. The xo scallops my boyfriend got were also delicious, well cooked, and fresh tasting. The red tobiko was yummy. The toro tartar was surprisingly not flavorful enough for me but still a good combo with the ponzu. I will definitely get the pizza sandwich again it’s amazing! This place was good… Recently discovered it and it’s great that it’s right by work. Kind of unassuming front but the interior is nice and modern. The fresh oranges at the end and oshibori before your meal are nice touches but I still did not feel welcome.

Came to Kumo today for lunch with a coworker. I haven’t been to this sushi restaurant in awhile and now I remember why. Sushi is ok, nothing to write home about. I ordered the maki lunch special. First the good. It comes with miso soup and a salad. The miso soup is some of the best I’ve ever had, the salad is a standard Japanese restaurant salad. I ordered 3 rolls as part of the special. A shrimp tempura, a Boston and a spicy shrimp. The spicy shrimp was basically the same as the Boston with a drizzle of spicy mayo. Not what I would call spicy shrimp. Still everything was pretty tasty. Hostess is polite and sat us quickly. Wait staff on the other hand seemed to rush us to order. This might not have been so bad if when we did order the waitress spoke English clearly. It was difficult to order let alone ask questions about their menu. Maybe I’m spoiled by Kotobuki, but I’m not sure I’ll be going back. I might order some takeout miso soup though. Seriously I freaking love that soup.

Having hurt my leg in a fall on ice, I am relegated to staying home and looking for other than ordinary foods to be delivered. Last night we found that Kumo offered on-line delivery service with a 20% discount on your first order. Signing up on line was simple, we did it on I-Pad! Very straight forward system and once you sign up future orders are easier as you have an acct and it contains all your information. We always loved Kumo so this extension of their service was welcome. The food came as promised in about 45 minutes. We had great Sake belly and Hamachi belly sushi along with Ikura sushi. My wife got the Rich Roll… was delicious! and we got a really deicious Spicy Tuna Roll inside out. All in all, this was a great experience and we will defenitly take advantage again. See receipt for prices below!

This place is an enigma. I believe the owners and chefs are from Taiwan. The quality of the fish and the presentation is outstanding. This is about 1 notch from being a 5 star restaurant. If the service was a bit sharper and the décor slightly less cheesy(yes it goes from really hip to a stuffed fish mounted behind the sushi bar) plus better sake choices and it would make the jump. When they have specials(which they always do) go for the specials, especially Toro Tartare. Believe it or not, they have a lamb chop appetizer that is excellent although feels out of place. Finally their live scallops, when available, are a must have as are their live shrimp. Just the same, it is definitely as good as any sushi restaurant in Nassau and probably only exceeded by Nisen.

I was very pleased with my experience here! I ordered an entrée, some rolls, and appetizers online. I swear the food was here in no more then 15 minutes. I was almost scared to answer the door because the food got here so quickly! Great service. I liked the online system. It even sends a thank you email and gives you options for coupons. Food was good… no better or no worse then other sushi places in the area. But because of the efficiency I will be coming back here!

Time and time again, my office orders from Kumo because they love the rolls and the food. But after picking up another take out order yesterday and AGAIN being rudely treated and ignored as I paid my $ 95 bill, I figured a review was appropriate. Yes the food is good, usually fresh and prompt on pickup with very few mistakes made in the order. But the downside of the lack of personality and almost arrogance that comes from the staff is off putting! And to top it off, they have now raised their prices on upgrades. If you order a Bento box and choose an upgrade on the california roll(which is BS Filler roll anyway) to say a Spicy Salmon roll, the charge was $ 1.00. Reasonable. Now, it’s $ 2.00 for the upgrade. If you order a maki lunch of 2 or 3 rolls, to upgrade to Brown Rice, the charge was $ 1.00. But now? Wait for it… waitttt…the new charge is $ 1.00PERROLL! So you’re telling me, Kumo, that brown rice which is available in just about every Sushi bar worth its salt, is a luxury item that with a 3 roll lunch should now cost $ 3 more? Insane! My 3 roll maki lunch went from $ 13 to $ 16 yesterday. And there’s no way anyone should be paying that much for a take out lunch during the week. Kumo, congratulations. You are officially crazy! And I will no longer frequent your place. Not that you gave a rats ass when I actually did.
