I had the absolute pleasure of having John, the owner of Raves New York, cut my hair today. John completely changed my look to an elegant more youthful hairstyle. He is a perfectionist. He took his time cutting my harr and showing me how to style the hair which is very easy to do. Besides being an expert stylist, John is such a charming warm person. John definitely named his salon correctly. You do receive a New York City hairstyle. I had Kerri color my roots and give me a color glaze. Kerri is extremely talented and really listens to what you want. Everyone at the salon was extremely pleasant.

Curly hair is a blessing and a curse. Trying to find a stylist who has the knowledge to cut curls is a difficult process. I was delighted when I found out Ouidad had certified salons on Long Island. John was wonderful with listening to what I wanted in a cut. I was also shown step by step how to recreate my curly cut. The cut was wonderful, but the service is why I go back.

I’ve been to this salon twice and had a wonderful experience both times. John was recommended to me because of his talent for cutting curly hair, and he did not disappoint! He really takes the time to talk to you and get to know how you would like your hair to look, but he is also great at making suggestions if you’re not sure. It is also really hard to find someone who can cut your hair dry. This method is great for curly hair, and I was honestly accustomed to paying twice as much for the same(or worse) quality hair cut from some of the major salons. Won’t be making that mistake again!

I love coming to Raves!!! The entire staff is so warm & friendly that I look forward to my appointments… whether it be a manicure, a pedicure, a change of hair color, or a hair trim or new style. I started with a manicure, and then I decided to have all the services I wanted, done here. The salon is a very special place to come to because of its staff & customers. You can just strike up a conversation so easily with the person sitting next to you at the manicure station. The stations are close to each other which makes it so easy for a person, if she feels like it, to join in a conversation. There is always lots of laughter which is so wonderful theraputic. If you want a home away from home where you are always warmly greeted and feel so comfortable and get the most wonderful manicures, pedicures, hair cuts(stylists who listen to what you want!), and colorists who are specialists in mixing colors —– COMETORAVESNEWYORK!

I walked in with my wife, who grew up in the area, after having not been in there for years. John, the owner, recognized me right away and greeted us with the same warmth I had remembered. I don’t know what the previous reviewers could have been talking about. The staff has been the same for years, no new employees coming from another salon, all of them are friendly and warm. The décor is open, elegant and appealing. I’ve always loved the haircuts I’ve gotten there and my wife will not go anywhere else when we are back east. I highly recommend John and his staff to anyone. As for the other reviews, it sounds like they are written by the same person, probably anther salon owner…

I love coming here. I live out of town so whenever I am here, John always squeezes me in. The place is intimate and elegant and always clean. The staff is friendly and warm. It’s one big happy family. I have been coming here for 30 years and have NEVER been disappointed. I have always given them carte blanche to do whatever he wants and he always finishes up with a big hug and a kiss. I wouldn’t go anywhere else,

What to say??? Let me begin by saying the one and ONLY reason I go to this salon is that I «followed» my hairdresser from her previous place of employment. Owner(who is a pleasant man), apparently thinks he is running an «upscale» salon. Sorry, not so much. Place is dingy, and crammed. There are a few nail stations crammed in the back of the shop, clearly for the added revenue. I get my hair colored, so sometimes when I’m waiting to have it develop, I get shunted from place to place to «sit», if they are busy, due to the lack of «seats». Is this REALLY the way to treat a paying customer? Again, if I didn’t really like the hairdresser, I wouldn’t go here. As mentioned in the other review, some of the other hairdressers are a bit«crass», and that would put it gently. Biggest turn off for me are the two ladies who generally are at the front desk during the week. I’ve already been standing in front of them several times, waiting to pay, while they engage in personal conversations between themselves, making me wonder if I’m invisible. In the front there is a cosmetics counter. The lady who runs it does make-up applications. I’ve had my face«done» by her for special events. I would definitely recommend her, she is excellent. Parking lot is shared with Fairway, and other stores. Parking is sometimes a challenge, as is getting out of the lot without getting into an accident. IF my hairdresser ever leaves, it’s adiós to this place for me. 8÷3÷2013− Just an update– Parking became a bit more of an issue here due to Weight Watcher’s moving into the next storefront. Depending on when their meetings take place, the lot is getting to be a real problem. Also, I thought the owner might have been reading his reviews, and taking action. I noticed the ladies«up-front» have been a little more responsive. I did notice with great amusement the two new reviews from California.

got my haircut here and i did NOT like it at all. when she blew it out it looked okay but when i got home and i did it myself. choppy mess!!! it took me a year to get it back to normal. WAY too many layers. the place was also a bit dingy. and the girl who did my hair was a little too crass for my taste.
