I really like this place. You might get scared off at first because the windows are blacked out from the outside lol but its actually really nice inside. Service has always been friendly and timely. Have been coming here for a while and it has been consistently good. They have a good size dining area and a separate bar area in the back which is a very relaxed atmosphere. The sushi has been good every time and they have a huge selection of specialty rolls. I tried a fantastic dish, malaysian curry seafood hot pot which was absolutely LOADED with seafood and the sauce was so delicious. Recently tried the spinach and goat cheese spring rolls and crab rangoon which were both really good. Also, the general tso’s chicken is the best I’ve ever had. Thin with a great light crunch to the outside and it’s like that every single time. They also always have new drink specials that are creative along with an already large list of cocktails, bowls, and martinis. Worth checking out.

3⁄5 for food, 1⁄5 for service. Very slow and quite rude… I told server to bring Sriracha sauce, 10 minutes later we finished our food and nothing came. Food is ok, not very impressive, you can find better places in the area. Will not recommend this place.

Everyone I work with was raving about Asian Bistro, so I’ve tried it a couple of times. I expected to be completely wowed… but…ehhhhh. The building is kind of gross from the outside and in order to leave the parking lot, you have to drive around the back of the building. Whether or not it is reality, I have a belief in my head that if your entrance into the kitchen is dirty and not maintained, then the kitchen will be the same. So I’m sort of grossed out about ordering anything from the kitchen, because the back of this building is disgusting. I’ve only ever had sushi and have had the same thing twice — 2 roll lunch special for $ 8.50, take out. You get either a soup or small house salad and two rolls from a list of choices. Both times, I’ve gotten the Alaskan roll(salmon, avocado, cucumber) and spicy crunchy tuna roll. Quite possibly my biggest sushi pet peeve is the use of the word«crunchy» to describe something that is actually a mushy mess. Second pet peeve — use of of the word spicy when there is no spice to be found. The rolls were fine, but taste like something you’d get at the food court at the mall… mediocre quality fish, mushy texture, small size. If you blindfolded me and put it in my mouth, I probably would not be able to identify what was in the rolls. Maybe they’re giving the inferior product to people who order the lunch special — but if that’s the case I’d prefer you charge a higher price and have higher quality ingredients and a better finished product. They also don’t give you enough soy sauce for take out orders, which really is annoying to find once you get back to the office. I gave it a couple of tries but honestly find the sushi at Stop and Shop(for stores that have a sushi counter where it is freshly made) to be higher quality than what I’ve had at Asian Bistro. If you’re looking for a cheap lunch, you’ve found it, but you get what you pay for.

By far my fav sushi place! Lunch specials are a great deal. Everything tastes fresh and flavorful. Bento box has good portions too. Usually go a little later to avoid lunch rush and never have to wait to be seated. Staff is very friendly and polite.

The sushi roll was great! Hibachi was ok but soup was way too salty. Meal was bland but large portion. Overall ok– would come back for sushi roll.

Meet up with a friend here for dinner because it was a nice halfway meeting point for us and the reviews seemed good. Outside the restaurant was a banner about a 2 for $ 25 dinner special. Once we were seated and looking over our menus we didn’t see anything about it. We asked our server and she said she would get that special menu for it. Maybe it is just me but if you are trying to prompt a special I would give every customer that menu when they sit down. We decided to split the 2 for $ 25 dinner special. It was a good deal! We had the potstickers, and 2 special rolls. All of it was good and would get again! I also got the miso soup and it was okay. And he got the seaweed salad and he said it was just okay as well. My friend ordered the hot tea and we had a hard time telling if it was tea or just hot water. :/ The décor and atmosphere was very typical of an Asian bistro with the fish tank by the door and the sushi counter. If you find yourself in this area and are looking for reasonable priced good sushi I would recommend this place but I wouldn’t make a special trip there.

The 2 for $ 25 is a great deal. My wife and I split the crab rangoon, dynamite roll, and shrimp with garlic sauce and had enough for left overs. The food was excellent too! For an understated environment the sushi was really quite good! However, the service left something to be desired. The waitress dropped off our food and simply forgot about us. I couldn’t even get a refill on my glass of water. I just can’t overlook the value for the $$ here though the food was so good for the price.

I’m not a fan of large«chain» asian restaurants and I’ve eaten here once before and it was nothing to remember. I came here again because I wanted to stay local but I should have learned my lesson from my first visit and gone elsewhere. The only good thing I had at this restaurant was the Gyoza. They are pork dumplings. They were delicious! Everything else was lacking and overpriced. For example; I got the chicken hibachi dinner which needed salt(of course, no salt or pepper were on any of the tables) and I got maybe a half cup of noodles. Normally, hibachi dinners are enormous and there is generally enough for leftovers. Boyfriend had the pad thai and was unimpressed. I was going to order a drink and I asked about the«Grapevine» vodka. I wasn’t sure if it was grape or grapefruit flavored so I asked the waitress, who did not know. She had to run off and ask one of the other staff members and when she came back, I couldn’t understand what she had just told me, so I ordered a peach mojito instead. Let’s just say it was my own mistake ordering a Cuban drink at an Asian restaurant. Also, when we were done eating, the waitress rushed over with our check; not bothering to ask if we wanted dessert. My general rule of thumb is that when an establishment fails to ask if I want dessert(even if I want it), I pay the bill and go somewhere else for dessert; since they clearly dont want my money! PS– the chairs in there sound like you’re dragging a cement block across the floor when you pull them out to sit down.

Love this place! From the outside you might assume they are involved with human trafficking… but the inside is very nice! Go to the bathroom! Its wonderful Good stand by’s, good drinks, specials, some random thai & indian influences. They have a happy hour menu, that you only get in the bar, even if the bar is full… no flexibility… which is stupid…

The only thing lacking is the promptness of the servers. No one necessarily jumps to get you anything or serve you. On the other hand the food is prepared very fast. But while sitting at the bar, you can find yourself being ignored and not asked if you would even like a drink by the bartender if she is not ur server… didn’t like that. From the outside, most people think it’s a dump… inside is fantastic. All new furnishings and the food and happy hour offerings are great! Price and taste. Oh and check out the back hidden bar area! Awesome set up. Looking forward to the return!

Came here for my first time on Saturday afternoon for lunch. In an area of Connecticut that is very, VERY suburban — it surprisingly offered an array of food choices, it was the QUALITY where I figured things would suffer. My boyfriend asked what I was in the mood for and after thoughts were exchanged(I basically suggested Asian cuisine and told him that he was«running the show» since he knows the area best and can’t locate Plainvile on a map of CT, lol) he said he knew a place — lo and behold it was Susu Asian Bistro. Upon entering the décor was very traditional for a Japanese bistro. To the left of the entrance sushi chefs were working furiously on their rolls and you could smell seasoned meats, fresh seafood and soup… or at least I could. We were seated in the area of the bistro near the windows and under the pretty curtains/drapes that created a bright and traditional setting. From the outside this place doesn’t look like much and inside it really is quite nice. It was also suuuuuper quiet and the boy loved that. They had drink specials as part of their happy hour that included Hibiscus flavored vodka — this wasn’t my first encounter with the stuff and I already knew I liked it so I went for the one with cranberry and lime. The boy chose the unsweetened iced tea hibiscus one with an orange wedge. Both drinks were delicious and refreshing, I commented that they could have been heavier with the vodka, but by drink two, I realized that the vodka was in fact present… sneaky sneaky, gotta love a cocktail that creeps back up on you :). For food I went with their sesame chicken lunch special. It came with a nice, healthy amount of juicy boneless chicken, drowned in a very savory sesame /teriaki sauce on a bed of steamed broccoli and delicious egg fried rice. My lunch special also brought a soup and I went for the won ton soup — the broth was pretty good and the won tons were nice and traditional, not thick and weird as sometimes found in Chinese, Japanese or Vietnamese fast food places — it was appreciated since this bistro is NOT a fast food place, I only wish I would have gotten more wontons as I only had 3 and that were pretty small — but it’s understood since it’s part of the lunch special. The boy ordered a bento box with a California Roll, 2(ridiculously small, but tasty) shrimp shumai, white rice, steamed veggies and chicken with a light sauce on it… possibly duck sauce, but I’m not sure. His meal also came with soup and he chose miso soup. He scarfed it down but I’m pretty sure it was pretty generic tasting. We also split a scallion pancake with plum soy sauce. It was delicious. Greasy, not as crunchy as I generally prefer — but it still hit the spot. Also, take a took at my pics, I photographed all our food: D. Everything from our cocktails, the food, reasonable prices, interior feel and the friendly service hit the spot. Definitely 4 stars all around and I would totally return when in this part of town :).

My husband and I have tried sushi from all over CT and this is by far our favorite spot! Sushi is always delicious, consistent and well displayed. We have also tried some of the Chinese and Thai dishes… All wonderful! Portions are generous and the service is great :) wonderful happy hour specials too Monday-Saturday! And you cant beat the lunch special prices! Also I saw a note on here someone wrote about taking leftovers to go… we bring our leftovers home every time we go. They pack it up nicely in takeout containers and provide small containers of whatever sauce you may need with your dish. You should always go to a restaurant for yourself before you write a review with false info :)

Just finished dinner here and it was very good! My mom ordered the Thai crab dumpling appetizer for us to share. Good, not great. They were kinda mushy. For her main dish she ordered the Romney roll(spicy tuna and avocado with yellowtail, sriracha, and jalapeño on top) and she really liked it! I also enjoyed a couple and thought it was great. My dad ordered the fresh uni special(sea urchin) and it was a nice big piece. He said it tasted very fresh! He also ordered the unagi don(eel over seasoned rice) which he says was delicious and he liked the quality. I ordered the eel cucumber roll and it was good. I’ve had better eel at other places and there wasn’t a lot in the roll itself. But I enjoy eel almost anywhere :) I also ordered the pink lady roll(salmon, yellowtail, eel, crab tempura, with asparagus on top and wrapped in pink soybean paper). This was my favorite. Overall, the quality is good and everything was tasty. I do think the flavors of the fish and eel could have been better/fresher but it was all still yummy. Service is great here too! Fast and friendly :)

Great sushi. Have gotten the lunch special to go a couple of times now and the attention to detail is awesome. HOT miso soup. Fresh ginger. Good price too File this one under«Don’t judge a book by it’s cover». The outside is fairly unappealing but it actually looks pretty nice on the inside.

This place is quickly becoming my go-to for Chinese takeout. It’s actually more of an Asian fusion place, but that works even better — sometimes I’m in the mood for Thai, sometimes sushi, and sometimes both! Don’t let the façade deceive you. This restaurant is awesome inside, with fish tanks and neon lights… a very trendy atmosphere. As I mentioned earlier, I mainly get takeout, but the experiences I’ve had eating in have been swell. The shrimp shumai appetizer is my favorite thing I’ve had yet. The dumplings are small, but fantastic. The sushi is OK, not my favorite. The rolls are small and the rice is often undercooked. But the entrees are great — the Thai basil chicken is the best, and I’m so pleased that you can replace a side of white rice with a side of brown! So few places do this.

I was contacted by the owner of this establishment to ask for further information on the incident, and was told he would update his waitstaff on happy hour policies in order to better serve their customers. Unilocal in action, folks. I will give this place another shot and see how it fares. For now, we will bump a star back on for effort. Expect another update when I return there next.
